General / What Are You 2013 Game Collecting Goals
« on: December 28, 2012, 10:13:47 pm »
This is a thread to post your 2013 collecting goals, and come back and report your progress on them as you complete your goals through the following year.

My 2013 collecting goals:

1. Obtain an Atari Lynx
2. Obtain a WORKING 3DO
3. I want to get some issues of Game Player's Magazine and Electronic Gaming Monthly from the 80s & 90s.
4. Work on my Saturn Collection (which seems harder and harder to do nowadays, the prices are getting insane)
5. Work on my pathetic (4 games right now) Nintendo DS collection. I traded many DS games away when Skyrim came out. Something I don't normally do, but it was an Elder Scrolls game and I was broke!

Games at the Top of My Wishlist:
-Breath of Fire (SNES)
-Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (GBA)
-Castlevania: Bloodlines (Genesis)
-Contra III: The Alien Wars (SNES)
-Contra: Hard Corps (Genesis)
-Chrono Cross (PS1)
-House of the Dead 2 (Dreamcast) - I do own it, but my copy ALWAYS glitches in level 2. You can't see the enemies but they still attack you. Yet the disc looks perfect, not a single scratch.
-Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of the Super Heroes (Dreamcast)
-Panzer Dragoon: Zwei (Saturn)
-Twisted Metal 1 & 2 (PS1)

^ Don't you love how Americanized the artwork is on the Cartridge of the Breath of Fire games? Yet they are distinctly Japanese games in the way they play and their art-style in the game.

I got Resident Evil 6 and WWE '13 for Xbox 360. Two games I've really been wanting to play.

I also picked up Wings of Wor for Genesis, Test Drive 6 for Dreamcast, and Final Fantasy III for DS for myself.

And I got $150 cash which I haven't fully decided what I'm gonna spend it on. Right now I'm thinking about getting a 3DO and a few games, along with Bionic Commando for original Game Boy. Or maybe an Atari Lynx instead of the 3DO...hmmm, choices.

I also got this bad boy from my wife:

Outside of gaming I got:
-$12 Visa Cash Card (Work Secret Santa Gift, not sure why he decided on such an odd number as $12.)
-Batman Symbol T-Shirt
-Beanie Cap
-Comic Shop Gift Card - $25
-The Cover Girls of DC Comics Book
-Electric Beard Trimmer
-Gloves
-Hometown Buffet Gift Card - $40
-Long Johns
-Mad About Super-Heroes Book (Mad Magazine Hardcover)
-Marvel Super-Villains Framed Lithograph
-McDonald's Giftcard - $10
-Old Spice Cologne Gift Set
-Prometheus DVD
-Scratcher Ticket with a $5 Win, Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!
-Two Lunch Buffet Passes for Round Table Pizza
-Wooly Socks

I used my Christmas cash already. I'm pretty happy with my purchases. Used it all exclusively on gaming, except for one comic issue I really wanted:

-1600 Point Microsoft Card (For the Dragonborn Skyrim expansion)
-Armored Core (PS1)
-Bionic Commando (Game Boy Original)
-Legend of Legaia (PS1)
-Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (Nintendo DS)
-Parasite Eve (PS1)

I also got these 2 books I've been really wanting:

I was gonna get Wind Waker for Gamecube, but dang! I didn't realize how much that game has climbed in value. I never should have traded it.

If anyone was curious, this was the one comic issue I really wanted:

It's like the only original Crisis on Infinite Earths issue I needed (well, it's more like a sequel or maybe a flashback issue). I loved the original Crisis!

General / Re: This game DOESN'T SUCK?!
« on: December 23, 2012, 09:37:30 pm »

I picked this one up at Goodwill today for only $3.99. Got home and went to test the disc and found myself going into race after race. The racing is fun, the cars handle well, there are plenty of car choices, and it has a great soundtrack that keeps you pumped (which is great in a racing game!).

But then I noticed bad reviews about the game when I went to check it out as I added it in my collection, surprised the hell out of me. Guess everyone back then was spoiled by the likes of Gran Turismo and Metropolis Street Racer.

I agree with that - a lot of my edit requests have been for silly little mistakes that I didn't catch until it was too late. I imagine it'd be a lot quicker all round if we could sort out things like that ourselves.

Yeah - that would make sense...

Same here. I've had to go back and fix little things like adding "The" at the end rather than the beginning. Would have saved an edit if there was a preview.

I didn't see a thread for this, sorry if there already was one I didn't find it.

Thought it would be cool to have a thread to post your latest additions to the VGCollect database. This might help users know that stuff was added that they can now add to their collection/wishlist, since the latest additions sidebar only shows the last few.

I just added a bunch of "swag" and a few other things:

LCD Games:
-Coleco Head-To-Head Baseball
-Coleco Head-To-Head Basketball

PC (NA):
-Dungeons and Dragons Classic Anthology
-Super Huey III

Strategy Guides:
-WWE Smackdown! vs. Raw 2008 Signature Series Guide

Swag - Print Media (Books, Comics):
-2007 Video Game Price Guide
-The Art of Video Games
-Castlevania: The Belmont Legacy #1-5
-Game Over: How Nintendo Conquered the World
-God of War #1-6

Site Feedback / Re: "In Collection" Suggestion
« on: December 22, 2012, 12:40:25 pm »
Am I missing something here?

Doesn't every game here already have something to click-on to see who else owns/wants/is selling it?!

I guess I was thinking of having those stats right on the Browse or Search pages. That way you wouldn't have to click through it to see the info.

That would be more convenient. That's how it's set up at GameSpot.

I saw this on GameSpot's collection part of your profile (however they're website is a pain in the butt to use practically for collection purposes).  I just thought it was neat and thought I'd suggest it here:

When you add a game to your collection or wishlist, next to the title listing it shows how many other users have it in their collection and/or wishlist. I just thought it was cool to see how popular or rare a game you have is compared to other users.

Off Topic / Re: The Comic Book Thread
« on: December 20, 2012, 08:12:31 pm »
I was really into comics when I was a young teenager. I found that they cost too much and part way through the story arc if it started to suck then I was stuck buying the rest of the story. Now I just wait until they release the compilations of the stories and buy the ones that I like/are any good.

Why were you stuck buying the rest?

I have a smallish collection of comics, but I got out of it after Marvel's Skrull invasion. I have a complete set of the New Avengers run, most of the Mighty Avengers and Wolverine: Origins (which is what got me back into comics). I basically was reading comics from Civil War through the Skrull stuff and I dug most of it. But I haven't been in a comic shop in awhile, I couldn't balance comics + games + all my other hobbies so something had to give. Comics lost.

That's a pretty good era to get into Marvel Comics. Some great storylines that truly had a lasting impact on the Marvel Universe.
