Modern Video Games / Re: Xbox Series S
« on: December 02, 2020, 06:50:18 am »
Right now not buying anything next gen until the errors and other imperfections with the systems will be fixed with future baches.

Anyway.
With Dev mode it was shown recently that the console can run retroarch and pretty much a lot of emulators and such included some like N64, PS2 or Saturn.

So I am open to buy a Series S just for have a legal moded machine.

But maybe it should be better idea wait up if Sony nor Nintendo cease and desist this or if the emulators improve at all.

They shouldn't though, emulators are not illegal the last time I checked up.
The Xbox Series S does not have a disc drive so how do you play older games?  Are they in some kind of database you get with RetroArch?  Sorry, I am just not that
familiar with how the software works

General / Re: How Much Do You Value Physical Video Game Compilations?

Ive long been a sucker for compilations as well.  It’s just cool when companies combine a lot
of older titles or games in a series together.  I love the Rare replay collection
on Xbox for example.  I’ll buy games like this even though I might already own the originals

GOTY:
The Last of Us 2

I know this game was divisive for fans but I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The environments and character models were top notch, story was emotional and
conflicted.  The combat wasn't revolutionary but why fix something that ain't broke?

Best Narrative:
The Last of Us 2

Best Art Direction:
Ghost of Tsushima

Best Game Direction:
Hades

Best Perfomance:
Ashley Johnson as Ellie

Best Score and Music:
The Last of Us 2

Best Ongoing:
Fortnite

Best Indie:
Hades

Anyway, those are my predictions.  It will be interesting because there were a lot of excellent games this year

Hardware and Tech / Original Xbox with Failed Motherboard
« on: October 06, 2020, 08:24:51 pm »
Hey all!

My original Xbox stopped working a few months ago.  I took it to a place that can do repairs on older systems and they told me it was not cost effective
for them to fix it because of a failed motherboard.  I am not a very tech savvy person, so I am wondering how hard would it be to order a new motherboard and
replace it myself?  My Xbox was modded and had over 100+games on it so I am reluctant to sell it for parts but unless I can do the repair myself maybe I should?

Thanks!

I recently played and completed The Last of Us II.  There has been so much negativity surrounding this game but I believe it is a masterpiece, right up there
with the first game.  It is a beautiful exposition of love, and what a person will do for those they love in a harsh, unforgiving world.  Many people hate the Abby character but I grew to like her.  That is all I will say since I don't want to spoil anything else for those who haven't played it yet.

The majority of people think it's a good game, there's just some folks who have issues with its story and characters, and a number of them disliked the game before it came out because they ruined the game for themselves or fell for some of the misinformation that was spreading due to leaks.  It's objectively a pretty good game, as even if someone has issues with where the story went, it looks incredible, it's acted very well, and the gameplay is a notable improvement over the first game.  I have some of my own issues with the game, but its absolutely a good game.

I was able to avoid the leaks and spoilers because I absolutely adore the first game and I did not want to ruin my experience with it.

General / Do collector's baffle other gamers?
« on: October 05, 2020, 06:35:12 pm »
I am sure this topic may have been brought up before but this experience keeps happening.  There are a few younger gamers (in their 20s) at my job that bring their PS4s or Xbox's to work (I work graveyard at a youth facilty and we're allowed to have electronics at night).  A couple of them have the game cases made by GAEMS that they lug around.  I will sometimes bring my PS4 with an HD Monitor that can display up to 1440p.  I bought it instead of GAEMS case because I can hook up older systems to it (even my PS2 with an adapter).  Anyways, let me get to the point, they ask me what games I have (thinking I have maybe a handful or so I can rattle off), I say "its better if I show you but I own..." and I tell them how many.  They end up with their mouths agape, "How many??"

I consider myself a low level collector, (only have roughly 500 games or so on multiple systems), but I was wondering if any of you get this question and reaction as well?  LMK in the comments below

25
The last console I bought at launch was the PS2.  Since then I have waited 6 months to a year before buying a new console and I don’t plan on changing that anytime soon.

26
I remember when I got Super Mario Bros. 3 day one, and beat it the same day.  What's funny is the power went out while I was half way through, erasing all my progress.  I just shook my head, started over, and still finished it that day.  It is still my favorite Mario game of all time.

27
I was gaming mainly on my Xbox One X because it was the newest system I owned and I wanted to utilize the most powerful system on my new 4k TV.  Unfortunately, the HDMI port stopped functioning and I am currently in the process of fixing it.

28
I have had to replace or repair the following:
Original XBox Console (motherboard)
2 controllers for Xbox 360
Xbox One X system (HDMI port)
Original PSP system
Fat PS3 (YLoD)

Thats all I can think of at the moment but there might be more

29
Playing Doom Eternal, Children of Zodiarcs, Resident Evil 0 and Gears of War 3. I haven't left the house except for work (I am lucky to work in one of the deemed "essential" jobs by the government, although we are told to stay home if we become sick)

Hardware and Tech / Re: Xbox One X HDMI port failure

Hey Shatterstar,

Sorry to hear about your Xbox. This is a fairly common issue, and it is fixable.  I suggest you check out some videos on youtube from "My Mate Vince", "TronicsFix", or "Andrew Paul". All 3 of those guys have in-depth videos on how to solve the issue.  Most likely it's a chip on the board that's gone bad, which only costs a few dollars to replace yourself, just take your time and practice first before attempting it yourself.

Okay sounds good, thanks!
