Don't know if can get a Top10 together, but I'll try ... I mostly focus on RPG's when collecting. As I collect PAL-Games, the following are quite expensive and rare:

1. Phantasy Star IV
2. Shining Force II
3. Light Crusader
4. Shining Force CD (insanely rare and expensive in europe!!!)
5. Turtles Hyperstone Heist
6. Castlevania Bloodlines (only the packaging for I already own the cartridge)
7. Sonic 3
8. Sonic & Knuckles
9. Street Racer
10. PowerMonger CD

I actually DO collect games for systems I don't own, but only if I'm able to play them on different generations of consoles. E.g. Playstation-Games ... I do not own a PSone, but as long as I can play them on my PS2, there's still reason for me to collect them. Same w. GameCube-Games ... don't own a Cube, but a Wii ... so ... all in all YES .D

I'm glad I still own a flatscreen TV of earlier production, including antenna- and scart-slots as well as HDMI-slots to totally fit my retro-gaming needs :) Those TVs are somewhat getting harder and harder to get your hands on nowadays ...

I registered at this site after my first collection-site went down, so I'm really happy that I'm not forced to enter my 700+ items again on just another site.  :)

Funniest Story is the following:

Once back in 1996/1997 me and my brothers were really proud owners of an uncut Netherlands Version of GoldenEye 64, wich was banned from market in germany due to brutality issues (things are way different today).

We really were possesed by this game, playing 4-Player-Mode for months, nearly years ... till Perfect Dark (the technical sequel) was released. After that, one of my brothers did lend the game to a "friend" ... same ol' story: the cartridge never found it's way back to us.

Switch the scene to about 2012 ... years after that I was hunting for games on a regular local flea market, browsing to the N64-Games one merchant had to offer. And suddenly, I recognized a copy of GoldenEye64 ... with a very distinct dent on it's label, which looked oddly familiar to me ^^'

Guess you guys know, where this story goes: I purchased the cartridge, only to find my brother's old savegame on it. After like 15 years, I actually found OUR exact game that went lost due do lending it away. It's my proud property now, vined with a personal history of it's own :D

I am a natural born creator of game worlds, fantasy-countries, civilizations and such ... guess id'be best employed into a Bethesda-like thinktank xD

I deal with RPG-Makers for almost 2 decades now, trying to lay down a saga that I create in my mind for almost the same time. Being part of a writers-team for an openworld-RPG would fit me like my skin.

General / Re: What's worse? A mediocre game or a bad game? - MKSR001
« on: November 08, 2022, 07:02:30 am »
I consider this a difficult yet very intelligent question. My first intent was to reply that bad games are worse than mediocre ones, but looking back into my history of being a gamer since the early 90's, I can say that I crossed paths with a lot of bad games. Few of those are beyond my fav games today. Like some others replied here before me, some games become gems of their own, BECAUSE they're bad :D like some movies do too. So, in that case, some bad games can really be considered better than some mediocre ones, wich are simply not good or bad either ... just ... mediocre :D

Let me give you an example: as I learned to know "Buck Rogers - Countdown to Doomsday" for Sega Genesis/Megadrive, this game was already about 10 to 12 years old, I don't know exactly ... and I considered it one of the most crappy games I ever saw. After watching a brother of mine digging deeper and deeper into this game, we recognized it as the pearl that it is .. even the reeeeaaaally lame music score made its way to our hearts by simply being so minimal.

I guess it's a matter of taste but I definetely am a kind of person that get's to like bad games/movies/songs ... for being bad in their own measurement :D

Let me try to reconstruct what I purchased lately:

SNES:
- Contra
- Lothar Matthäus Power Soccer
- Pinball Dreams

GameGear:
- Klax
- Chuck Rock
- Power Rangers
- VR Troopers
- Marble Madness

PS3:
- Final Fantasy XIV a Realm Reborn

PS2:
- EyeToy Hero incl. sword

Megadrive:
- MEGA GAMES I
- Mega Bomberman (can't wait to test out our 4player adapter on that! yay)

Gotta slow down with buying games for the rest of the year - germany's politicians are incompetent suckers that lead to our upcoming gas-bill being high AF -.- ... so I got to be prepared for that.

As a fan of RPGs of all kind, but especially those with well worked out story and setting, there's one franchise I really look forward to check out: Shadowrun.

I recently purchased a few novel books set in the Shadowrun universe and reading them actually push me to get my hands on a game or two.

That's the closest I come to answering your question :D

First one that comes into my mind is that medeval tune in the starting screen of "Final Fantasy IX"  8) generally this game has some of the greatest music to ever grace an rpg.

While not necessarily horror, I recommend A Plague Tale. The first subtitled, Innocence, was great and gave a really atmospheric and creepy vibe with a rat infested plague that takes all of France over.

The new game comes out in a week or so and I'll be playing that. I believe the first is on PC.

Actually been meaning to play that, I think I got it free on something recently and had considered checking it out.  That could be an option for sure.  Now to remember what platform I got it on lol

*EDIT* Ah right, I think I got it on PS5 with PS+, so most likely gonna give that a go, see how I like it.

Brother of mine showed me the game a few months ago and was really liking it. It looked great also. Guess the upcoming sequel will be a recommendable one ;-)

Another Shoot'Em Up game I really enjoyed playing was "Truxton" for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive ... I highly recommend it!

The first game that comes to mind is Vice Project Doom on NES.
No one ever talks about it, but I think it’s one of the best games on the console. It combines action, driving, and first person shooting in a way Adventures of Bayou Billy only wishes it could, and they’re all actually FUN. Add in the Ninja Gaiden-style cutscenes along with pretty good music, and you have a great yet underappreciated game.

One more: the arcade game Food Fight. A pretty obscure game that has been kind of forgotten, and I believe has only been rereleased once via some defunct online service years ago. I only ever saw and played the actual arcade cabinet once during my childhood. It’s actually a LOT of fun plastering the evil chefs in the face with watermelon or peas, and IMO deserves much more recognition.

Actually, both games you mentioned here are totally unknown to me. Gotta check those out ... !
