I pulled all of the digital titles out of my collection recently... was a spur of the moment thing... Felt good...

A few of us have recently. I did so and it was nice.
Didn't feel right listing games I'll never actually own.

MADNESS, MADNESS I TELL YOU.

LOOK AT ALL THESE BYTES I OWN.

ha! Besides Steam already keeps a collection list for all my PC titles on there.

and damn... I need to mod a 360 so I can dump all my XBLA games for when they kill off live for the 360 in a few years. :(

Most of those Win95 and 98 games wont run on anything newer than XP. They are not true 32bit games and probably have a 16bit installer.
That 16bit crap got ripped out of the kernel starting with Vista.

Fable is 32bit so it should work fine... NFS3 has a vista patch out there to make it playable on a 64bit OS.

If you want a gaming laptop for games from that era, you need to buy a old laptop from that era. It'll save you a ton of money too.

This may help

Also make sure you download the DirectX 9c runtime library.

Classic Video Games / Re: Master System, Who Collects For It?
« on: February 26, 2014, 11:15:45 am »
I started collecting Master System titles a year or so ago. Sadly, the selection available to me has not been very large, so I only have four games or so. It's a very humble beginning, but you have to start somewhere.

One of the few games in my collection that I'm particular pleased with is King's Quest. I acquired this less as Master System selection and more just as a part of my collection of King's Quest games. But it is still an interesting curiosity to see a classic adventure game like this available on such an early home console.

I'm really hoping to get a copy of Phantasy Star.

Ooh a fellow KQ collector!

KQI on SMS is flat out terrible! lol

Yes a region mod would be needed to play US HuCards on a PCEngineDuo. The modchip is relatively cheap and can be found over in the pcenginefx.com mod/repair forums.

@Scott have you tried connecting a Composite RCA cable? You can use the cable from a N64 or GameCube. Also if its a Genesis Model 1 you should be able to test it with the same AutoRF switch.

I had a similar problem a few months back (hooked up composite) it had a hard time actually reconizing the cartridge. and coincidentally with Yoshi's Island I noticed a bunch of lines in the menu screens and when I paused the game the foreground would remain, but everything else was blocked by weird tiles (most famous one for mine was a bunch of Flashing B's) making it unplayable. I also notice the background in Donkey kong country was a jumble mess. the guy at Play N' Trade said the board was going and we took a parts console and swapped those around and "BOOM!" works Perfectly now. moral of the story if you think something is wrong with your SNES try playing Yoshi's Island.

This sounds like a bad/dirty cartridge slot or failing VRAM. Did you attempt to clean the slot first? if so what did you use?

trust me it wasn't the slot. since I mostly use 91% rubbing Achohol, there were times I had to get it drunk to see some action.

ha! I would love to take a look at that board if you could somehow manage to get it back.

The TurboDuo is the vastly superior to a TurboGrafx-CD add-on in every possible way. The TGCD is plagued by faulty lasers and broken servo gears. The Duo isn't without its own issues with failing capacitors and audio amp issues, but these issues are still far less common than those of the TGCD. IMO to realize the full potential of the console the best combination would be a PCEngineDuo/Duo-R /Duo-RX with a region mod. The Duo-R and Duo-RX are the most reliable of the Duo units. With a PCEngineDuo you can now also access all CD games with the inclusion of a Arcade Pro System card not to mention the massive Japanese library of games. The PCEngineDuo's are far more common therefore quite a bit cheaper.

If you are one of those types that doesn't like tampering with the original hardware then go for a TurboDuo > TurboGrafx-CD. If it doesnt matter and you just want to play great games go with a modded PCEngineDuo model.

The TurboDuo and PCEngineDuo have System Card 3 built in so no additional System Card is required unless you want to play the Arcade Super CD's (require an Arcade Pro Card which had extra RAM onboard)  or Games Express CD's (crappy 3rd party unofficial games), both of which require a PCEngine since you need a JP HuCard, unless modded. The CD's are region free, so outside of the few Arcade Super CD's and Games Express CD's all other US and Japanese CD games will work without a mod. A TurboTap is needed to play multiplayer games since the console only sports one controller input. Also the Duo's use the PCEngine style controller connector so TurboGrafx-16 controllers will not work without an adapter.

I didn't try the N64 cable, I'll test that tonight.

My Genesis is a model 2 though, so I couldn't swap them to see if it worked on there. I also didn't clean my cart slot, I've never done so though, so that could be it... I'm not sure how to go about that though.

You can use rubbing alcohol or contact cleaner(DeoxIT) with a old CreditCard wrapped in a piece of cloth(old tshirt).

DeoxIT is good for cleaning cartridge contacts as well.
