Please read the entire thread before choosing a poll option. Poll will run for 7 days (give or take) and the results will win out and become the rule. Users have the ability to change their vote. Rules in the Style Guide can be voted on again in the future or new ones can be brought. You can submit additional ideas to bring up for voting in this thread:
https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,8361.0.html

This is to determine how pervasive the use of a hyphen is. Whether to limit the use of a hyphen to any "Edition name" or to items that have specific editions and/or re-release series as laid out in the Style Guide. I will leave out the second option regarding how multi-packs are handled because I think that solving this hyphen issue will automatically answer that question. I will add an additional option based on re-releases only so that it can potentially be decided also.

The options are as follows (examples in red of method 1/3 are the cause for the discussion, examples in green of alternative options showing how changes would look and do not necessarily mean they are "better" options)

If something needs to be clarified, you can post in this thread. Time limit on the poll has been disabled however I am planning on closing it on 5/26 but may leave it running if there is a continuing debate. Vote changing is enabled as usual.

Method 1: Continue to use the currently adopted way of using a hyphen on all edition names. This ignores common name rules for game that have "Edition" in their game titles.
• Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition
• Fallout: New Vegas - Collector's Edition
Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts / Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 - Season Pass Edition - Unlimited Edition
Biohazard Code: Veronica - Kanzenban - Premium Pack
Street Fighter II - Special Champion Edition
• Grand Theft Auto III - Greatest Hits
• Super Smash Bros. Melee - Player's Choice
• Daikatana - Sold Out Software
• Ghostbusters II - The Hit Squad

Method 2: Use the original Style Guide as it exactly is written under Games denoting Special/Limited Editions, Box Sets, re-release series and/or special packs. This takes into account common name rules for games that have "Edition" names in their titles.
• Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition
• Fallout: New Vegas - Collector's Edition
Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts / Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3: Season Pass Edition - Unlimited Edition
Biohazard Code: Veronica Kanzenban - Premium Pack
Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition
• Grand Theft Auto III - Greatest Hits
• Super Smash Bros. Melee - Player's Choice
• Daikatana - Sold Out Software
• Ghostbusters II - The Hit Squad

Method 3: Change the original Style Guide to use hyphen for all Edition names and budget re-release versions use a descriptor instead. (This uses combination of Method 1 for edition naming)
• Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition
• Fallout: New Vegas - Collector's Edition
Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts / Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 - Season Pass Edition - Unlimited Edition
Biohazard Code: Veronica - Kanzenban - Premium Pack
Street Fighter II - Special Champion Edition
Grand Theft Auto III (Greatest Hits)
Super Smash Bros. Melee (Player's Choice)
Daikatana (Sold Out Software)
Ghostbusters II (The Hit Squad)

Method 4: Change the original Style Guide to use hyphen for extra Edition releases only and budget re-release versions use a descriptor instead. (This uses combination of Method 2 for edition naming)
• Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition
• Fallout: New Vegas - Collector's Edition
Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts / Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3: Season Pass Edition - Unlimited Edition
Biohazard Code: Veronica Kanzenban - Premium Pack
Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition
Grand Theft Auto III (Greatest Hits)
Super Smash Bros. Melee (Player's Choice)
Daikatana (Sold Out Software)
Ghostbusters II (The Hit Squad)

Pack names for hardware and accessories will remain unchanged.
Method 3/4 just to give another option. Have been thinking about tabling this for awhile but I would understand if people didn't like changing things like Greatest Hits into a descriptor.

Video Game Database Discussion / Preliminary Swag category Style Guide
« on: February 08, 2022, 12:16:38 pm »
Soon I will be creating a thread in the Adv Guide for the Swag category. It will first be created with (Preliminary) in the title because I want to get things fleshed out in there first. This thread will be discussion on how to handle certain aspects, or for you to put your ideas down here to be put into there.

The type of information I am looking to get from this thread are:
- Naming convention
- Description
- Box Text

The sub-cats in Swag, with brief comments on each.
General rules:
- Developer should not be set.

Magazine
Strategy Guide
Print Media
All three of these are going to follow the same rules.
- front art is for front, back for back, cart art will be blank
- naming is already set on Strategy Guides but not Magazines. Print Media will likely follow Strategy Guides. Comic books also need to be considered.

Artwork
Currently consists of posters, promotional flyers, banners, etc. These terms should be lowercase in item title.
Need to have some dedicated terms for things so we don't have some entries say flyer or others that say leaflet.
Calendars are in this section need to be moved to Print Media.

Carrying Cases & Bags
This section is largely not needed as many of the items inside should be moved into the appropriate console accessories sub-cats.

Clothing Items
Apparel

Food Items
Entries are for packaged items. Those who have opened or just the empty packages will have to use Note field to indicate it.

Promo Videos/Movies
Was supposed to be just for actual promotional videos (such as the N64 TRU VHS) but has been expanded to include any physical video media for a video game related property, or one that includes a video game related property on the cover (but not in the video content) and any video media that is included in video game releases. In this scenario, video game related movies (such as Tron) are not allowed but specific editions such as this BD+DVD combo pack would be allowed.
The naming format is
Name (Type) [TLD]
Thinking whether to make it mandatory to use (Type) [TLD] on all entries or not. For example it is not particularly needed for the US DVD of Alone in the Dark to have this information with the other versions missing.
https://vgcollect.com/search/advanced/382/%22alone%20in%20the%20dark%22/no-filter/ALL/ALL/ALL/ALL/ALL/no-filter/no-filter/no-filter

Whereas Type list would be:
- VHS, DVD, BD, BD+DVD, LD, VHD, etc.
In description: for entries lacking a TLD, the release country must be noted. Broadcast standard can be put into description also.
This section will need to be "Verified" to deal with generic entries to make them specific.

Retail Code Cards

Soundtrack
Similar to Movies, would need a format descriptor such as: LP, Cassette, CD
Description can have the tracklist but only if not applicable to box text.

Toys/Novelties
Toys/figures will get this naming convention from this post in another thread:
https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,7129.msg113846.html#msg113846
Note: most of that thread is talking about Interactive Figures and Amiibo cards which are not relevant to this discussion because they are not in the Swag category.

Future new sub-cats[/u]
Currently the Toys sub-cat is the catch all for Swag items that are not in any of the other categories. Depending on whether we find it needed, we may consider making an Other sub-cat in swag to put things that have no specific category for it.

Let me know your ideas on this for when I start working on this section.

Video Game Database Discussion / Duplicate List 2023
« on: January 03, 2022, 10:51:36 am »
Use this thread to post duplicate items in the database so that DB staff can merge or remove the entries.

Post the name of the item that is duplicated, along with the links to each of the items.

Once you have made your post, do not edit it later to add content. Make a new reply if possible or save all of the items you want to post for one post. Editing your post to add new content can cause a problem if a DB admin is actively working in this thread.

After a dupe post has been processed, a DB admin will use the Strikeout text effect on the duplicate links, so that you and we know that the report has been looked at.

Video Game Database Discussion / Error Listings and rejected edits 2022
« on: January 03, 2022, 10:50:55 am »
Use this topic to report issues with Items. Examples include:
- Items with mismatching pictures/information
- Physical item cancelled and not released
- Item has watermarked or photoshopped images
- Invalid items in the database
- Any concerns about rejected edits
- Any explanations about an edit you want to do so that it won't be rejected

When you post about an item, include the current title, a link to the item in question and a description for the report. Do not edit posts to add additional content to it, make a new post instead.

When a report is processed, a member of DB staff will use the strikeout text effect on the link so that you, and we, know that the item has been handled already.

Report Duplicate items into the Duplicate Items thread here:

Some of you may know that I collect cards and one of the things I have been working on is trying to checklist cards that come with games. I am starting this based on what I currently have, although will one day want to expand this. I have decided that I want to be able to add a thread in the ID Forum for card releases as well, and wanted to make a public thread here for people to contribute if they would like. So you can post games that come with cards into here and we'll see if we can use that information in that upcoming ID thread.

At this time I do not want to deal with the cards that come with Limited Run Games releases.

Also currently not going to do anything with Amiibo cards but games mentioned are listed here:
- Pokken Tournament
- Mario Sports Superstars
- Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer

Games with non-standard "cards" that will not be included in this work:
- Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
- Kingdom Hearts III
- Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
- Robotech Battlecry
- Road to Guangdong
- Tactics Ogre

PS: This thread is for exclusive cards, not games that just happen to come with "some" cards like R.B.I. Baseball '93 on Sega Genesis that just happens to come with some cards that were also available at retail.

The type of cards this thread covers are standard size cards that are the same size as typical trading cards or CCG/TCG cards.

There is a character limit for a post and Yu-Gi-Oh! has caused this to be an issue. So here is a separate post for Yu-Gi-Oh! cards:

News / Noitce about recent rejected edits for Description or Box Text
« on: December 09, 2021, 09:44:32 am »
As you may have noticed, we have been working on making some small changes to the site. A few of which should be not noticable but may end up being so because they effect the edit process, resulting in edits being rejected and sometimes for things you didn't edit.

Rejects on Descriptions or Box Text when you did not change these fields

We had noticed that some symbols were not appearing when they were typed into Box Text and slight changes were made in how the site recognizes some other non-alphanumeric characters that may sometimes be entered. While we are ironing out this slight change, sometimes the field in the edit view will change a character into something else, and when you submit, the page will send the (now) incorrect edit for that field to the approval queue. When we see this type of edit to Description or Box Text, we will be rejected it. The primary character that is doing this is the center point or symbol we use for lists. It looks like this: •

One of, if not the most rarest Game Gear games is currently on 2 different websites for sale.

First there is the one on Ebay, low feedback seller and in Indonesia. It is for US $250 with $20 shipping.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/114860963875

The other one is for sale in Poland on OLX for 1750zł (~440 USD) ... but since this is OLX you may not be able to buy it outside of Poland.
