My edit of the item number for Lylat Wars [DE] (https://vgcollect.com/item/40187) was rejected.
I used the number above the barcode on the back of the box.
Any reason why it was rejected?

For reference: this ebay offer has a good image of the back
https://www.ebay.de/itm/374895209235

No comment reject of "NUS-P-NFPP-NNOE" which seems to be correct. Try to do it again.

Shipping boxes, being unique or not, are out of scope currently. I would not create entries for them. However, in the description for the included item, info about the shipping box (such as the barcode) can be put there.

So, this would mean that 259187 is not permitted, because there is no container for its components besides the shipping box, meaning a "Super Masters Edition" doesn't really exist at all. If those components are to be represented in the database, then they must be submitted as separate entries for each individual item. Correct?

That entry has many issues. But first
Does the entry name exist in either Japanese or English on that cardboard box? I cannot find any photos of the box nor any unboxing videos of this version to see for myself.

Issues with description:
1. Description is taken from or based on some website's listing of the contents and it does not match what is present NOR is it formatted properly for here. Primarily the fact that digital items are listed as being included as physical items.
2. What is "e-STORE"? Is it Square-Enix e-STORE? If so it should be written like so. Also appears to be available at HMV.
3. Being an entry in the Switch game category, it is inferred to be a game, so using a term like "Switch game" is redundant.
4. The particular details regarding the language options should not be present here. I do not know whether the game included is exclusive to this or not (if it has that 25th label present) or if that label is on the retail release as well. But that type of info can be put on the individual game entry if it qualifies for having one.
5. Cushion blanket is not an ideal description unless it is actually what it is called. The advertising is secondary for the name, hopefully there is some BOM on the box that indicates what the name is. If it has no actual name, then we can have a debate as for what it should be called. It appears to be a Plush with a blanket inside of it. The measurements should not be present here. If it is indeed only to be called Cushion Blanket then it should get its own entry with that name.
6. Book title is wrong. Size, page info shouldn't be there.
7. The box does NOT include digital items. It includes a flyer with two codes.

So the description should be like so (this is an example is false/partial info):

Quote
Includes:
• Dragon Quest Monsters 3: Mazoku no Oiji to Elf no Tabi - Masters-ban
• "cushion blanket"
• Dragon Quest Monsters 3: Monster Synthesis Book
• DLC flyer
• purple sticker

DLC flyer has codes printed that unlock
• DLC name 1
• DLC name 2

Square Enix e-STORE exclusive
Sold online as "Super Masters Edition"

And I type all this just so that it is helpful in general with these types of entries, despite the following:
IF that shipping box does not actually have the entry name on it, then it may not be available to be made as an entry. The picture on the entry right now is terrible and should not be used as it doesn't show anything. It is just some tape and a blank side of the box. At least the side with the barcode it supposedly has should be shown. If the side with the info is the same side as the address, then the address can be removed. If you do not want the address to be removed, you can request that it be done digitally.

As for whether the individual parts should have their own entries, it is as usually, if you want. It seems that both the book and the plush are being sold online by themselves so you certainly can (even now) just buy those if you wanted. If you don't make the entry, someone else will in the future so it really is up to you whether you want to do it.

We want to plan to have the ability to add multiple ratings to an entry, so I do not think it really matters which one is currently present, only that the rating on the entry matches the one on the item.

and it's strange to list all the contents from this edition as individual items in the database.

Do we need to be doing that for every edition release

You can if you want but there is no requirement to do so. So if you don't want to make all those entries now, that is fine. Typically it is better to do for older items which have been out in the world long enough so that the separate items can be found individually and added to collections. That doesn't typically happen to these newer sets, but give 5-10+ years and they will be in that state. I've already, personally, acquired individual components from thrift stores and lots that were part of CE/LE that were released since 2011 and did not have componentized listings here. So you can think about whether you want to save time for someone in the future (which is what making the entries when the item is new will do) or not.

59. Evoland
The second Evoland was good and I did finish it but not 100%. This first one is really cool in the beginning, as you unlock different functions over time to reflect how an RPG evolved over time. It starts at 2D style like on a Game Boy and not at text based like on a computer. Overall it is fine up until a point where you unlock fireballs. Then there is a tedious movement puzzle. And the controls are not quite as responsive or smooth as I would like. It is evident even earlier that there is some sort of sliding that happens when you move. I'm not going to bother doing a platforming puzzle where you end up dying every 2 seconds. So I guess I didn't get out of the tutorial for this one.

swordude always has the best variety pickups.

I went to the LGS to see if they had either a Sony DS3 controller or an Xbox 360. They only had third party controllers (bleh) and a special edition Xbox 360 they wanted $400 for. So instead I just picked up a couple of games that stood out for one reason or another.

PS3: Beyond Two Souls SteelBook
PS5: Scarlet Nexus

57. The Simpsons Road Rage
Since my Xbox 360 isn't working, I figured I'd try xemu. There must be some trick to making an ISO of an Xbox game, since it came out too small and/or xemu didn't think it was a game. So then I tried the PS2 release. Good to know my PS2 can still read DVD games, that it works in general (including the controller) and the memory card.

I'm fairly certian I may have played this before, but perhaps I'm thinking of Hit & Run. It seems like a Simpsons remake of Crazy Taxi. The drivable Springfield is cool. I did play it for some time, but the aspects of "beating" this game look to be more than I want to bother with. The novelty wore off quite fast. Having a timer on the Road Rage portion is OK but the missions are not something I care about to do. The manual says you beat the game when you get to $1m and considering I only got to $30k in an hour, I was looking at a tedious grind if I wanted to try beating it. I'm just not that into it.

58. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
I had made some inquiries to get an Xbox 360 and Japanese PS2 recently but I had been holding off just in case emulation would work. I found PCSX2 to be somewhat confusing when it came to the BIOS files. Because these disc-based emulators do not come with them, and the ROM packs on Archive have everything in them. I did manage to figure out which one to use to represent a Japanese PS2. Making the ISO worked fine as well. However the issue here ended up being two-fold. First the resolution that the emulator ran at seems incorrect as all of the text was blurry or had artifacts. Once the game actually loaded, there were a ton of texture glitches and I just knew that this wasn't going to be worth the effort to emulate. So I will go about and buy myself a Japanese PS2 instead and try this again in the future.

HTTP codes come from the server and have nothing to do with the client.

I may try to clean the controllers before going out to buy new ones. I think I haven't tried to use the PS3 in almost ten years. What happens is that the menus just click around randomly and very fast.

My Xbox 360 is red ring and doesn't turn on. I bought it for $20 as-is so you get what you get.
I booted up my PS3 and both of my controllers are bad apparently.

56. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1

I completed my first ever JRPG-type game. I didn't get to do everything there was to do in the first playthrough, there were some items and quests left before the ending. I had to use a walkthough at some point, primarily just the item location list portion because the *pedia in the game is not that great to use. It lists dungeons and what monsters are in them, and then the monsters and which items they drop, but no option to search by item. There are also no sorting options in any of the inventory or store screens, so it was just faster to have a the drop list up on another screen. I didn't use the walkthrough portion of it, but I did read what the requirements for the "Good" Ending were, and made sure the Shares were at 20% for each CPU and that others were at 0. Now there is a new game+ type thing, but basically you just load your save game from the last game and you start over... BUT you have to change all of your equipment and set up the skill assignments again.

I got over-levelled mid-way through the campaign because I stopped focusing on the story events and started trying to get the items for the recipes. So aside from bosses and the colosseum, I ended up at a point where the normal monsters would either miss or do 0 damage. I did some colosseum stuff and in there you can fight level 999 monsters, but you obviously can't do anything there. The game only goes to level 99 by default but with DLCs you can get to 999. I only have 2 of the DLCs so that also may be why I couldn't finish all of the quests.

The gameplay is fine, there were no bugs. Music was ok. All the characters being anthromorphised game consoles or game companies... or games were neat. Like Lastation is Playstation, Compa is Compile Heart, and there there was Tekken. Not sure who CyberConnect2 was supposed to represent. Lots of in-jokes and a few laughs were had. Played with Japanese dialog and English sub-titles.

Off Topic / Re: Take Better Care Of Your Windows OS's
« on: December 07, 2023, 12:05:34 pm »
In a modern OS, people won't really have the ability to disable updates because they are primarily handled by a Security Context in the Task Scheduler. This is the portion of Task Scheduler that is hidden because a User account (even in Administrators group) does not have the Read permission on those tasks. The only real way of preventing Windows Updates to be installed is to block the URLs at the firewall.

Windows Updates should not be just installed because they exist, unless you are in Fast Ring. The vast majority of them are not even applicable to a home user. Anyone in the Enterprise space should have the updates verified before allowed. For a home user, updates should be installed as-needed and Windows Update is the primary source of excess bloat which increases the overhead and decreases the performance of the operating system.
