Modern Video Games / Re: Do you focus on Achievements/Trophies?
« on: September 08, 2016, 03:09:56 pm »
I try to get 100% completion in games, including platinum trophies. With the price of games increasing in Canada to a point where I can't really purchase many new games. Trying to get trophies stretches the lifespan of a game. I enjoy doing it and I get much more monies worth out of the game.

Modern Video Games / Re: PS4 Pro announced

Am I the only one that gives zero effs about 4k?  Maybe I'm getting old.  1080p is good enough for me.

From what I've seen at stores of 4k, it's super nice, I'll get one eventually since it'll be the HD replacement someday, but 4k certainly isn't the selling point on the Pro system.  I still think not having support for their own 4k Blu-Rays is really dumb lol

It's not? Because I see little incentive to upgrade from a normal PS4 if you have no plans on getting a 4K TV.

They sold it as a Pro version, for gamers who want an extra edge. Even at 1080p you'd have better frames or better visuals. They opened up saying it was for the more hardcore gamers. The benefits are small, but people who play everyday, it might be worth it for them, even without a 4k tv. The incentive is small for casual gamers, but for hardcore PS4 gamers, it's probably worth it.

That being said, it's definitely marketed towards 4k, they spent half of the presentation explaining what 4K and HDR were. If Sony spends 20-25 minutes presenting technology instead of games, you can bet your ass that they are committing hard to the technology (In this case, 4k)

Classic Video Games / Re: What is the oldest game you own?
« on: September 08, 2016, 02:56:48 pm »
Mine would have to be Mario Bros. on NES.
I would like to venture into older games eventually but not having grown up with them makes it difficult to play them. There is no nostalgia effect.

I'm doing the finishing details on I Am Setsuna now.

I started playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 and I actually kind of enjoy it. It caught me off guard, I expected to play it a little and not care anymore but the experience is somewhat...relaxing?

The PS4 Pro will not support Ultra HD Blu-rays.  It will only support 4k streaming through apps.

I am second guessing whether or not I want to buy one now. I wanted the all around 4k support so I could use the PS4 Pro as an entertainment system.

I tend to over evaluate time constraints and such whenever I decide to pick up a new game.
I've been slowly trying to change that but it's difficult. I'd love to sink 100+hrs into an FF game right now but its such a big commitment that I just never take the plunge anymore.

Modern Video Games / Sony Is Cancelling Digital Pre-Orders For GT Sport
« on: September 05, 2016, 03:33:48 pm »
I've been really looking forward to this game. I feel like it will be cancelled completely at this point. I've yet to come across a racing game that has the same kind of progression and amount of customization (that matters) than GT does. I guess we'll have to wait and see :/

I used to keep my starter till the end. I had Pikachu in Pokemon Yellow and Cyndaquil (Typhlosion) in Pokemon Crystal.

I won't go out of my way for guidebooks but if I stumble upon a really good deal, I'll bite.

After almost 2 years of no collecting because I was overseas, I finally started collecting again! It's going to be a slow start since I still have to move my collection to my new place (across the country).

Anyway. Finally got FF Origins. I have the Japanese collectors FF Origin but I've never had the NA release. Should be shipped after labor day weekend.

Off Topic / Re: Video Rental Store Memories
« on: August 28, 2016, 01:19:58 pm »
I remember a small rental place about 5 minute walk from my friends house, they had N64 and PS2 games there. Some games we rented so many times that we could have just bought it...

I think the Japanese Olympics are going to be really entertaining. You know that everything is going to be immaculate and done perfectly. At the same time their culture has been influenced by videogames and cartoons so much that the ceremonies and presentations will be fun to watch and completely unpredictable.

Classic Video Games / Re: Final Fantasy or Shin Megami Tensei series?
« on: August 28, 2016, 12:55:13 pm »
It's obvious that I am going to say Final Fantasy. Although I do agree that their newer entries to the series have been pretty "meh" as of late, their classic games changed the way games are made. Old FF was so good/influential. Even today, a few smaller RPGs have been selling themselves as "classic FF style".

General / Re: What is the most Hours you ever put in a game?
« on: August 28, 2016, 12:50:16 pm »
I have a few thousand hours in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. I used to be one of those stunters. I started when the game was released on PC and played a few hours almost every day for a a few years. Than I eventually played less and less over the next few years. I don't know how much time I've spent playing that game but last time I tried to calculated, the number was so big that I figured it must be wrong.

I am happy to report I am now GTA:VC free, the game isn't even installed on my PC :P

General / Re: Upcoming collector's edition
« on: August 24, 2016, 09:51:02 pm »
Unfortunately, Square Enix have decided to release 2-3 Final Fantasy games per year, each with about a couple special editions and a collector's edition. I no longer seek collector's editions, they are too expensive from the get go.
