**Now using this post as my complete list for the year**

Finished my first game of the year with New Super Mario Bros 2 on the 3DS. It was enjoyable enough. Not too much to say about it really.

*Edit: Finished up the original DOOM today as well (not the 2016 DOOM, I'm still working on that). It was excellent and I'm looking forward to playing the other DOOM stuff that came in the bundle with it on Steam. It holds up well to this day and it was fun playing it through all the way to the end for my first time.

Finished Games (replayed games are in purple)
  • New Super Mario Bros 2 (3DS) Jan-05
  • DOOM (DOS) Jan-05
  • Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson (3DS) Jan-13
  • Hoshi no Kirby: Yume no Izumi no Monogatari (Famicom) Jan-14

I didn't even make it to the halfway point last year. Maybe this year will be the year I finally finish the challenge. :)

Kinda in between games right now after getting the plat for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: ASB. Playing some New Super Mario Bros 2 on my lunch breaks at work, and as always I'm playing some Overwatch on the side. Haven't really settled into anything at the moment, though I'm thinking I might start a Tales of Xillia playthrough.

@Abe and...I guess the rest of the VG Collect community.

I wanted to wait until after the holidays to post this, but I found out yesterday that Kenny passed away over the summer. Basically, I saw a weird Facebook post on his timeline that said "Kenny Mowbray 10/25/1970 - 7/24/2016." I PM'd one of his FB friends and asked about everything and she confirmed later that afternoon that he is no longer with us.

I was just speechless when what I feared what ended up being true. I didn't want to pry for details about "how" or "why."

If not for Kenny, I would have never joined this forum. This community. Hell, even before VG Collect, Kenny was a solid friend. We clicked instantly. His personality, wit, charisma and sense of humor were so magnetic.

The last time I talked to him was just days before his passing. He told me he was going through some stuff and I asked if there was anything I could do. His response was simply, "Just keep being a good friend to me."

I feel like I have more to say about him but I'm still kind of drained from everything. I'm really going to miss him.

Wow. I'm not really sure what to say. With how long it's been since I talked to him, I was afraid for the worst and it seems to be the case. He was one of the few people on my PSN friends list that took the time to message me for something as simple as "how's your day?" or "how have you been?" or "how's that new game you're playing?", so his absence was pretty noticeable. He was easily the nicest guy I've ever met online, and nicer that a great deal of people I've met in-person. It sucks to know that I'll never see a "Kenny Mowbray is now online" notification again.

Rest in peace buddy.

Thanks Kash for the info.

Anyone know what happened to Disgaeniac/Kenny? Haven't heard from him or seen him on PSN for months, which seems unusual. :-\

Life got busy and Overwatch has taken up quite a bit of my free gaming time, so I've kinda fallen (very) short of the 52 games challenge for this year. :-[ On the bright side, I did get a couple more platinum trophies. :) Here's a mini update.

Finished (replayed games are in purple) Full List Here
    21. Resident Evil HD (PS4) Aug-30
    22. Pokémon Sun (3DS) Dec-01
    23. Battlefield 1 (PS4) Dec-02

Pretty tempting. I regret not getting it the first time around. Might have to get it this time. :-\

The second wave of the PS4 version of Dragon Fantasy is live for those of you who are interested. Not sure what's going on with the Vita version. Nevermind, Vita version is up now too.

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Recent Additions to Database
« on: August 22, 2016, 02:38:23 pm »
Added the New Nintendo 3DS - Super Mario Bros 3D Land Edition to the database. After some research, it seems that it released a whole week earlier in Canada than in the US. I used the earlier Canadian release date for the database entry and mentioned the differences in the description field. Should we have separate entries for the Canadian and US releases, or stick to one unless there's actually a difference in the system (barcode, etc.) between the two regions?

Modern Video Games / Re: Upcoming Niche Japanese Games

We need to draw a line somewhere. This thread is for Japanese games, not Western games of any kind. We already decided to make a compromise and say that any Japanese games are fair game here now, and not just the obscure ones. We don't need to stray farther from the original purpose of the thread.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will be published physically on PS4™, "PSVita", and Wii U this fall in a special "Risky Beats" retail release packaged with a musical selections CD containing over 20 songs from the game's soundtrack, with each offered at a suggested retail price of $29.99.

While I love the Shantae series and I'm happy to see that this one is getting a physical release, this isn't even remotely Japanese and does not belong in this thread. Wayforward (the developer) is very much American.

All this talk of Mega Man made me want to play too, so I opened up my copy of the Mega Man Legacy Collection (3DS) after discovering my GameCube copy of the Anniversary collection doesn't work anymore. Just finished playing through the original Mega Man today. I've finished a few of the others, but I do believe that this was the first time I've actually finished the original.

    20. Mega Man (via the Legacy Collection on the 3DS) May-31 **New**

General / Re: Your collection in 5-years from now

Hopefully in 5 years I'll have the rest of the NA and JP Fire Emblem games I want. The biggest obstacles are the 3DS limited editions, since I already have all of the NA releases (not counting the Birthright and Conquest standalone releases). The Thracia 776 Deluxe Pack won't be cheap either unfortunately. I'd like to also have caught up with all the Disgaea releases as well, including the Greatest Hits and Triple Pack re-releases. It would also be nice to have a complete NA Tales collection, aside from the Collector's Editions.

I also intend to keep buying more imports, so hopefully by then I'll have plenty of JP PS2 imports (and a way to play them) as well.

Started Valkyria Chronicles Remastered (PS4) yesterday and it's pretty great. :) It started off a tad slow in the first couple introductory chapters, but I'm really enjoying it now. It's pretty unique, even all these years after the game's original release on the PS3.

I'm also trying to decide what to play next for a handheld game. I'm thinking maybe I'll start Stella Glow (3DS). I've had it since launch and was looking forward to playing it, but for whatever reason I still haven't even opened it yet. Or perhaps I might restart Tales of Hearts R, since my Vita hasn't gotten much love lately. Decisions, decisions. :(
