Demos are being split from the regular listings. So now you can keep all your physical demo discs separate from your retail games. If you have more suggestions, post them here!

Video Game Database Discussion / Foil Covers

I was looking at my Saturn games, namely Albert Odyssey, and can't help but think that with all my photoshop skills there has to be a way to make the cover look better than it does currently.

Anyone have any ideas on scanning foiled covers to that they come out closer to the real thing?

News / End of Year Stats: 2013

Here we go folks, the end of another year at VGCollect! 2014 is here and this marks the 2nd year of tracking stats. We're closing in on our 3rd birthday and VGCollect is still growing. 2013 turned out to a great year for us and I'm happy to share with you all the stats for the year. Enjoy!

Users

In the last year, we have welcomed 7,930 users to the site! This brings our new total up to 13,129 users! Amazing, not only have we bypassed 10,000 users, but we doubled our total from last year. Welcome to all the new folks!

• Total Registered Users: 13,129

Items

In 2013, we just narrowly broke the 50,000 items mark! Actually, we did so on the 30th of December. We added a ridiculous 34,488 items to the database over the course of 2013, that's double the total added in 2012. Also, in 2013, we saw 33,874 edits to existing items in the database, with an average of 2,832 a month.

Collections

Here we go, the Collection stats for 2013! Last year we saw users add 437,970 items to their collections! We now have a total of 687,259 items being tracked across all collections! That's quite a bit compared to 2012's 249,289 total.

Wishlists have been growing steadily over the course of 2013. Throughout the year we saw 55,526 items added to user's wishlists. Compared to last year's 6 month total of 11,554, that's astonishing!

The sell list also got a lot of love in 2013, we ended the year with 4,324 total items in the sell list, adding 3,558 items in 2013. For comparison, we ended 2012 with 766 items, so that's a huge jump!

General / Save Your Change, Folks the 3rd

Alrighty. Save Your Change moves on to the a 3rd go around! This time it'll end on April 20th, 2014, so get started saving it all up!

Like previous SYCs, anyone that wants to join in can do so and all you need to do is save pocket change for 6 months. At the end of the 6 months we each announce our grand totals and show off what sweet prize you bought yourself with it. It's a great way to buy yourself that grail item for your collection, or even something spendy not pertaining to gaming at all!

Hardware and Tech / NES Blue Screen

Hey guys. my frontload NES took a crap on me a month ago and I'm just now finding time to ask questions.

I was going to play Castlevania on it and all it gave me was a solid blue screen. So I tried other carts and the same thing happened. The worst part is, I changed the pins on it last year and it was running like a champ. And I never leave a cart in the console either, cause I'm worried about it depressing the pins for extended periods.

I thought it might be the lock out chip. But I tried Battle Kid, which supposedly bypasses the chip and it blue screened as well.

Any one know what I should look try/do before I go tearing it down for the 3rd time?

News / End of Month Stats for June, 2013

Welcome to July and the brand spanking new VGCollect! Thanks for hanging with us while everything transitions over and Matt gets the bugs worked out. It's been a crazy week! I was able to snag all the Stats for June and compile them for you, but thanks to the holiday and such I completely forgot to post everything.

So, here are your Stats for June, 2013!

Users

In June we saw 403 new users join the site. This brings us up and over the 9,000 mark! Thanks to everyone that helps promote the site by telling their friends about it!

• Total Registered Users: 9,067
• New Users: 403
• Daily Average: 13

Items

June, being the beginning of Summer, tends to be our weakest month for activity. And this year is was no different. This June, we added 959 new items to the database and 1,562 edits were done to existing items. We are currently sitting on 42,613 items in the database and are slowly closing the gap to 50k!

• Total Items in Database: 42,613
• New Items: 959
• Daily Average: 32
• Edits: 1,562
• Daily Average Edits: 52

Collections

Over the course of June, we collectively added 26,332 to our collections, which averages out to 848 items a day. We are already up to 540,000 total items in collections too, which means that even though it's a slow month we are still steamrolling forward with growth!

The wishlists and sell lists are still seeing a good amount of lovin'. 5,500 items were added to wishlists over the course of June and that list is nearing the 50k mark. And the sell list now has over 2,000 items listed in it!

Modern Video Games / PS3 Exclusives?

When I bought my PS3 the point of it was to pick up its exclusive games. But so far I've only gotten 5-6.

Is there a good solid list of them somewhere? So far, I've looked at Wikipedia's list of PS3 games. And it seems pretty in depth. But thought maybe someone else you know better places to look too.

EDIT: Decided to add what games I already own (which area already all exclusives themselves).

News / End of Month Stats for May, 2013

Welcome to Summer! It's June and already the garage sales are opening up their doors for all of us hunters to search for prey! May is over with and, like last year we saw a nice spurt of activity on the site. Also, we have hit a major milestone! Exciting!

Users

This month we had 501 new users join the site, bringing us up to 8,651 total users on site! We're closing in on 10,000 folks! Based on recent numbers, we should hit it in about 3 months or so.

Items

In May, we had 1,593 items added to the database, with an average of 51 items added daily. This brings us up to 41,685 total items listed on the site.

Also, we've had 3,690 edits done to existing items. An interesting note, and I don't list it when we do the Stats updates. But, since we started tracking numbers on edits in the admin panel, we have now approved over 70,000 individual edits. That's the equivilent of 6364 items with every field filled out. Neat!

Collections

Alrighty folks, here it is. Milestone time! As of May we are now listing over HALF A MILLION items in user's collections! Crazy! In May, 41,119 items were added to our member's collections, bringing us over the 500,000 mark!!!

Wishlists saw a bunch of additions in May as well, with 1,326 items added to them. Bringing the total up to 43,119, just 7k shy of the 50k mark.

And the Sell list now has over 2,000 items up for sale/trade in it. Actually, May broke the record for items added to the Sell List, with 277 new items added to it.

Classic Video Games / NES Games You've beaten?

So I was looking over my NES collection while I was working on my Game Room and it got me thinking about how I never really beat any of them. Either, because I was too young and got easily frustrated, or they were just too damn hard.

That made me wonder what games other folks have finished for the system. Or if anyone else is in the same boat as me.


Out of 38 games that I own, minus the games that have no end (like Pinball) and not looking at games I've rented or borrowed, I've only finished:

The Legend of Zelda

News / End of Month Stats for April, 2013

Welcome to May! Spring is finally upon us, after a crazy start filled with extra snow and weeks of rain. April was a pretty stellar month at VGCollect. We broke a few records and a couple milestones. And we are set up to hit a major achievement this month too.

Users

In April 445 new users joined the site. While we hovered around the average for users this month, we did break the 8,000 mark! It still kinda amazes me that we have that high of a number. Pretty sweet, welcome new folks!

Items

This month, we also broke the 40,000 mark on the total number of items we list in the database. Awesome! 1,396 new items were added to the database this last month and 2,861 edits were done as well. Thanks to everyone for putting up with us not being able to approve them all right away, it's been a hectic month.

Collections

Over the course of the last month, 43,510 items were added to folk's collections! These numbers blow my mind. But I guess when spread out across the entire userbase, it's not that huge of a number (Comes out to about 5 1/2" games per user), still pretty impressive. We are also sitting pretty at 475,059 items in collections, that's less than 25,000 until we break 500,000! Crazy!

Wishlist also got some major loving this month. With 7,629 games added to user's wishlists this month. That's the highest number of wishlist additions I've seen since we started tracking wishlist numbers!

Hardware and Tech / Display Driver has Stopped and Recovered?

Its happened a few times in the past, but tonight is particularly bad. I keep getting a "Display Driver nvlddmkm has stopped working and recovered error" on my PC. Is there any way to fix this easily? I can't play any PC games and when I load them up I either get screen flicker, a black screen with a mouse cursor and end up opening up the task manager to force quit any game I was attempting to run.

I'm running a Geforce 8800 GT on Windows Vista 32-bit. I really hope I don't need to buy a new graphics card.

A little late, but better late than never. Welcome to April! March was another good month for us. Not much in the way of records this month, but the numbers have set us up nicely for some wreckage in April!

Users

This month we added another 454 users to the site, bringing us up to 7,705 total user accounts on the site!

Seems like we are keeping the steam rolling with items. This month we added 1,173 new items to the database and had 1,917 edits done to existing items. We are now sitting at 38,831 total items on the site!

Collections

Marketplace / European DS Cases

Anyone know where I could find a European DS case? I need 1 for my Max Media Dock. It would work perfectly to hold the DS card and the GBA slot dock. They are thicker and I need the size of it to allow the Media Dock to fit nicely....

Video Game Deals, Sales and Promotions / Jump Super Stars for NDS on Amazon

I'm not sure if anyone is looking for it. But, there is a seller called MediaEmporium on Amazon selling Jump Super Stars for $18.95 used, CIB. Might want to hop on it, as it seems like a pretty good buy to me. Plus, its a US seller, so that's a bonus.
