General / Re: Collectors on Ebay acting like morons
« on: January 12, 2019, 03:34:58 pm »
I never bid on ebay, it's way too much effort and no guarantee there'll be a payoff. Though saying that I got my Panzer Dragoon Saga in a bidding war on Ebay, near-perfect condition for about £160. That was a good day. But 99% of the time there's no reason at all to choose an auction over a buy it now. I think some people just like the rush of it, maybe.

It'll probably sound weird but because I have so many games I want to have some way of making my absolute favourites stand out amongst the others in my collection, which for me just means buying as much random shit related to them as possible. I'm never happy with the amount of memorabilia I can find for them though (sometimes I can't find any at all) so I just start buying alternate versions/platforms of the game too to appease myself. Some other times though extra copies just fall into my hands one way or another or if I start collecting for a new console and am struggling to find new games I'm interested in I'll just buy games I already have on another platform.

And then a while back my main platform of choice changed from Xbox 360 to PS3 and I don't actually like playing on my 360 anymore, feels weird. So if I decide I want to play a game I only have on Xbox 360 I might buy it on PS3 since PS3 games are dirt cheap now so I can play it on that instead.

I think I was about 2013 'cause that was when I got my first job and I remember immediately starting to collect from there. Shortly then before I'd started seeing other peoples' awesome collections and it made me really want one of my own.

I prefer games to have an end, though I don't mind if they let you carry on exploring or whatnot after the 'end', even if non-canonically. I like story-driven games best and I need my stories to have a satisfying conclusion or they feel like a waste of time.

No you're not.

If you want to have fun with it Hangul takes about 5-10 minutes to learn, you could try and speak it into mobile Google Translate and see if it comes up with the right translation. Give yourself a big ol' pat on the back if you get it right.

Otherwise yeah, what desocietas said, that's the easiest way  ;)

JOKEEER!
I am so happy. Persona's been getting so much spotlight lately and this is gonna be such a big boost for it.

To gamers? I'm seeing less and less pushback against anti-consumer monetisation bullshit over time and I think before long we're just going to give up and let them do whatever we want, because there doesn't seem to be anything we can do about it. Who remembers when the worst thing we tried to contend with was on-disc DLC and season passes? Seems so petty now that we're dealing with things like disuguised lootboxes and microtransactions in retail games, and who really even cares anymore? We got lucky with lootboxes because they just happened to break laws, but developers are finding workarounds where they can do it and get away with it, knowing that by DEFINITION they're selling gambling schemes to minors, and who's really kicking up a stink about it anymore? Some people are, but where are the big pushback campaigns? No-one cares anymore. Gamers are becoming apathetic to it and just accepting it now and it's not hard not to feel powerless. So I think the worst thing that I can say IS going to happen is we're just going to accept defeat and let the big names do whatever they want to our vidya. I've jumped right onto the "there needs to be a new crash" train but now that gaming is such a huge mainstream market I don't think it's possible anymore. The average joe doesn't think or care about it and the powers that be know that. And now the younger generations are growing up in a gaming market where the current state of gaming is all they've ever known, so they've no reason to push back against it because in their minds this is how things are supposed to be. They've never experienced just chucking a disc in a console and immediately powering it up and just playing a damn game and knowing you have a complete experience in front of you. Shit's pretty fucked up.

I've given up on the AAA market at this point because it's just pathetic to look at nowadays, anyone who wants to join me in the niche party is very welcome to. We have Persona. Though Arc System Works can be pretty dicky with its monetisation practices so the inevitable next Arena game might brew up some more fury. There's no winning, man.

I have Tourettes but it's much much more subtle than it used to be. When I was a kid I was a nightmare to be around, but nowadays no-one seems to notice it. It's always been physical tics though, I don't shout things out or anything. Nowadays it's mostly muscle flexes, most noticeable things I do are scrunch my face up and slam my teeth together but again no-one notices which kind of surprises me. I sniff a lot which might have something to do with my Tourettes but I can't really tell. When I was a kid I kept flicking my arms up, hitting my leg with my wrist, making a "zzupt" sound, threw my neck back, worst was this like growling coughy-throat clearing sound, that annoyed a lot of people.
Also pretty hardcore Social Anxiety Disorder but that's been gradually getting better over the years. I used to think I had Avoidant Personality Disorder but I spoke to a specialist and she said it was just plain ol SAD.
My stepdad thinks I'm autistic but I think he's looking too much into things.

I'm learning Japanese at the mo, about 50% to spoken fluency and like 10% written. I keep losing my momentum studying kanji and stopping for a few months and forgetting everything I learned.

When I'm finally fluent in Japanese I'll probably study something else for fun, I've been considering Mandarin because it seems like a really fun language to learn. Or maybe something useless but fun like Old English.

Also that's not a proper answer to your question, so you're still just throwing an asinine question at us for attention and not answering it.
No-one would have a problem with you if you actually contributed something to the forum, but nearly all of your threads seem to just be you wanting us to see your name pop up or something. I see absolutely no reason for these threads to exist. If you have something you're actually interested in discussing, make a thread. If you want attention, make it someone else's problem. This forum is not here for your sake. There's a community here.

I've noticed the amount of activity here plummet hardcore since you started spamming the forum and I don't think that's a coincidence.

Pretty much just eBay, but I sometimes get modern games from CEX and Game if I'm in town. The only retro game shop in my area closed down a few years ago so I don't really have any alternatives.
