General / Re: How did you find VGCollect?
« on: February 25, 2015, 10:55:18 am »
I used to catalog my games over at a site called RF Generation. When I first came here, it was out of desperation to get away from that place because the site was constantly sluggish and being hacked to the point that it was going offline regularly (who hacks a VG cataloging site?). So I Googled an alternative, signed up, and even alluded to this in my introduction post here, to which I recall nobody had any idea what website I was talking about. For the record, it was RF Generation.

Wasn't sure I'd go through with re-cataloging everything, but eventually did anyway and here we are now.

Just got a Punch-Out gaming random Sony box. Pretty cool deal but not really a lot that I like/need.

Album Here

Everything but The Land Before Time game is up for trade/sale if anyone wants it  8)

What about Punch-Out? This sentence is confusing. Are you saying there is somebody named "Punch-Out gaming", and they gave you a random box of Sony stuff?

Anybody else have trouble with NIS support not emailing you back? It's been over 2 days since support was "reviewing my request" and I've heard nothing. All I know is that everyone has their game now, and they've yet to acknowledge my update request.

Thanks for the heads up about Pikmin 3.  Kmart seems to still be selling them online, so that might be a good way to go.

Actually Kmart is getting out of the video game selling market, and most of the listings on their website have become unavailable for shipping.

Hardware and Tech / Re: Xbox 360 hates DVDs all of a sudden
« on: February 19, 2015, 06:19:28 pm »
Solution found, for future reference - It is probably your HDTV. There is a reason that Vizio TVs are cheap. They tend to not support certain video outputs as well as other TVs, and the "HDCP" protocol is a bit sketchy on them. The fix was to simply turn the TV off, and back on. Weird, huh? I'm actually kind of relieved it wasn't the Xbox.

Hardware and Tech / Xbox 360 hates DVDs all of a sudden
« on: February 19, 2015, 05:35:50 pm »
This is a spare 360 I pulled from the garbage one day, and to my surprise it worked. Just to make sure, I've been watching DVDs on it for over a week now. Issues started a few days ago, it would get an occasional freeze and "attempting to read media" message. Turn it on for some more DVDs today, hit play and the 360 logo screen pops up, as the video and audio signals begin flashing on and off, while the "secure HDCP link" message states that it is lost over and over.  ???

A bit coincidental that it worked for a bit, and then decided to pull this. Sounds like a laser issue, but the HDCP link message seems like the problem could be either my TV or even the HDMI cable. I really don't feel like cracking the console open.

Modern Video Games / Is Pikmin 3 already the hardest Wii U game to find?
« on: February 19, 2015, 02:07:08 am »
...and also the most costly standard edition game? My closest retail option is a Walmart, over an hour's drive out of my way. Although, I would love the opportunity to buy it from them, seeing as the pre-owned copies are only $30. Probably isn't going to happen.  :-\

This game really slipped through the cracks. It was there for a minute, and now gone. Destine to become another Pikmin 2 in terms of scarcity and value. That's how it seems, at least.

Installing games on a console. ::) I haven't had my PS3 very long, but I'm already annoyed with how long it takes to do stuff on it. It seems like even games that don't have to instill, still "install" something, then there are updates, etc. Even my Wii U was sort of a brick at first due to the Nintendo Network being overloaded around Xmas 2013 - couldn't sync my network ID.

I don't have a Wifi enabled 360, and it's pretty sweet. Just pop a game in, maybe a quick patch, and then I'm off. Screw installing a game - I can wait a few seconds for a load time. It's no biggie.

Sold a game on eBay. It's been only 9 days, and we had a holiday weekend, and the buyer is placing a dispute on me for the item not arriving. And without ever trying to even contact me first.

Freaking impatient people. I hope eBay doesn't give them an automatic refund. I'm sure the mail is just a little slow due to the holiday weekend and weather.

Pretty sure mail didn't even run yesterday here on the east coast. So much for rain, sleet, or snow. But that is some pretty abysmal service from the USPS. If it's within the US, in 9 business days there's really no good excuse. Especially if you bought first class.

General / Re: How to not get screwed on eBay
« on: February 18, 2015, 02:38:25 pm »
Random question for ya, gf78. You wouldn't happen to have a YouTube account by the name of "helldestroyer77", would you? Your number of choice doesn't match, but your demeanor and general approach to eBay just reminds me a lot of that guy from what I've watched.

I'll add that even following all of this, you can still get screwed. Most sellers on eBay are only about 75% honest, and about 50% as helpful as they should be in the sale of their own stuff. Most of the time, they lack common sense, even ones with perfect feedback can lack it. They might mail me an expensive Sega Saturn game in unpadded envelope, or they will take plenty of pictures of Sega CD title, but forget to photograph the mold growing all over the booklet, or the crack in the disc, until after I've paid over $100 for their "pristine" condition game.

I just bought a DS game without seeing the instruction booklet, but I asked to be sure, and they assured me it's in there. I'm half expecting it to have nothing but the health and safety, even though I went as far as describing that the booklet should match the cover.

My point in all this ranting - even eBay's good sellers aren't that good. You will be lucky to find someone who is completely honest, and who cares about getting your stuff shipped in one piece after you've paid them. If you do find that seller, definitely save them. Cherish them, because they are few. There's actually a lot that goes into selling on eBay the right way and it can be quite the job, but most only do it on the side, with their spare time. So they cut corners.

Sometimes the risk is just worth having that game you can't get anywhere else.

General / Re: The Top 10 Most Wanted Items on Your Wishlist
« on: February 16, 2015, 07:07:54 pm »
Okay, I'm going a slightly different direction here because it's easier for me - top most wanted games per console.

PS1 - Kinsley's Adventure
PS2 - Trapt
PS3 - Hatsune Miku 2nd
PS Vita - Freedom Wars
NES - Ninja Crusaders
SNES - Mr. Nutz
N64 - Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness
GameCube - Lost Kingdoms 2
Wii - Tomb Raider Anniversary
Wii U - Rayman Legends
DS - A Witch's Tale
3DS - DOA Dimensions
Gen - Shadowrun
Game Gear - Arena Maze of Death
Saturn - Clockwork Knight
DreamCast - Toy Commander

I've already made up my wishlists and I have a strategy of going for certain titles depending on most wanted. This cuts way down on impulse buys. I'm very conservative with funds, and don't usually spend unless I can see that I've gained quite a bit.

Seems many VG Collector's are having / or had relationship woes just in recent times. :( Hope it's not the lifestyle of gaming / collecting itself that is driving couples apart!  ??? Then again, it's shocking to think that half of marriages end up that way.

Game Gears kind of suck to play, even in working condition. I had one (until the sound stopped working). The problem with a good majority of games on it are two things:

1. The games are often so zoomed-in that you can't see what's coming and you get cheap deaths as a result.

2. Any games that have lots of movement (such as Sonic) get blurry when the speed ramps up.

And yeah, they are prone to breaking. The speakers on mine stopped working.

I so wish someone would make something like the Super Game Boy so we can play Game Gear games on the T.V. That might eliminate some of the blurriness, at least. And it would mean we wouldn't have to take chances on faulty Game Gears.

Gotta disagree. I like the Game Gear, and replacing the caps isn't so bad. Yeah, the games are zoomed in, but you get more fluid gameplay as a trade off. IMO, the Game Gear was the best handheld until the release of the original Nintendo DS. There's no way, regardless of any library, that I'd consider any handheld from the 90s that wasn't color, and wasn't also back-lit. Couldn't stand that then, and still can't now.

There are Game Gear mod kits where you can play RGB out, but the mod isn't so easy to do.

Rooms: The Main Building - Goofy title, kinda generic-looking box art, but a pretty interesting puzzle game if that's your thing. It's more or less a sliding block puzzle, but the twist is your character is in the blocks and you have to slide them so that you can navigate to the exit. $3 used at GS if you can find it, and worth that if you like unique puzzle games.

Cruis'n - I had wanted this because it was supposed to be a sequel to Cruis'n USA / Cruis'n World. Finally found it complete yesterday...but now I kinda wish I hadn't. In the running for worst game I've played on the Wii. Broken controls, HORRIBLE graphics (we're talking PS1 level here - no textures on the cars at all & the environment textures are a pixilated, stretched-out mess) - no redeeming qualities at all. Avoid at all cost, I'll be returning my copy today at lunch.  :-X

At over 100 games, you're pushing it to ask for more tolerable software on Wii.  :P
