I would definitely put money on theflea.  That dude's collection is massive.  I'm just glad I'm not the one who has to worry about finding a place for it all.   :P

I don't have a particular era that's near and dear to me.  I can list a number across them all that I like.  As far as types definitely arcade style.  I don't mind simulation racers but I prefer the loose, rule bendy arcade racers.

General / Re: What Is Your Opinion Of NASCAR Racing Video Games

I love me a good racing game, just not a NASCAR branded one.  My brother had one for the N64 It was....boring.  He wouldn't even play it.  I'm the only one that spent any time with it.

Yes, specifically Alice, Madness Returns comes to mind.  I was digging that game up until the final levels.  The doll maker levels just go on forever.

I stumbled onto this place back in 2011.  I was using The Backloggery to track things but I absolutely hated it's layout.  I was searching around and here I am.   The community is great and very helpful overall.  So welcome aboard.  :)

Ignore the cable management, or lack there of.

Not gonna lie.  That looks like the rig I'm currently running...since 07.  Socket LGA 775 none of it's SATA it's all IDE and Molex but some of the components are SATA so, conversion cables everywhere!

Thanks everybody for the help.  Truly appreciated. :D

OK, so I tore it out of the case and set it up on the box.  I jumped the pins, and nothing.  I miscalculated with my screwdriver and hit the pins beside it, it fired right up....   I don't know.  ???  Either way it appears I was hitting the wrong pins.  Probably due to the goofy way the boards connector is labeled.

It's been an off and on thing for 3 years.  So I've had the case, mobo, and psu since early 2017.  So if it tuns out the board is DoA there isn't much I can do about it.  lol

Yes the 8 pin CPU is connected.  It packed right under the 240mm rad.  It's a tight fit, as seen here.  Ignore the cable management, or lack there of.  I was in a hurry and going to finalize later, after the M.2 NVMe and 4tb HDD comes in.

I thought about removing it and testing it on a box.  If you could see the hoops you have to jump through to get that out of there.  The RAM is within a mm of the AIO fans.

I'm going to try the box method.  I've seen Jayztwocents do it.  I don't know why I didn't test before casing.  This isn't even my first rodeo.  Though you'd think it was.

I'll update when done.

So I've been in the process of building a new PC for my wife to get her away from two outdated and rather old laptops she has been using.  Since I abruptly now have a lot of free time on my hands I figured now is as good a time as any.  So I got it all together flipped the switch on the power supply.  The RGB around the chipset comes on for a second then switches color to a red that is holding a breathing pattern.  Push power button..., and nothing.  I haven't had any success with the screwdriver trick to short the board either.

Specs:
Motherboard
 Asrock z270 Killer SLI/ac

CPU
 Intel Core I7 6700k Unlocked

Memory
 4x 8gb OLOy Warhawk 3600 DDR4

Video Card*
msi Geforce GTX 1660 Ventus OC Edition

Cooler
Deepcool Gamer Storm Castle 240EX AIO liquid cooler

PSU
Thermaltake Tough Power Grand RGB 750w

Now I have read online that particular motherboard has issues like this.  I do have another on order, an ASUS Prime z270 A.  Won't be here until the 22nd and was hoping somebody may have some idea as to what is going on.

Things I have tried;
Clearing CMOS, via jumper and battery removal.
Powering up without GPU
Booting with only 1 RAM stick in and cycling through the 4 stick.
Trying 2 sticks in a A1-B1, or A2-B2 configuration.

All comes to the same conclusion it refuses to even start.  Now the PSU does work.  I jumped the pins on 4 and 5 to get it fired up.

Any and all help appreciated.

*Edit; Forgot the GPU

I'm thinking you're right about the unseen damage.  The individual isn't wanting to pay for a board replacement.

At first I hadn't considered the battery being bad out of the package.  I did tear back into it remove it and test it with a battery tester that I have and again with a multi-meter.  It was fine.

So I had somebody come to me with the above mentioned model.  When you turned it on the fan would max rpm and the system would shut down.  Now I'm familiar with over heating issues on the PS4, so a simple cleaning and reapplication of thermal paste was in order.  Upon tearing it down I had noticed the CMOS battery on the board had leaked at some point.  So I removed it, cleaned the area and replaced with a fresh battery.

Now after the reassemble I was going through the tests and everything seems to work, except the disc drive.  There is no life in the thing.  Will not take, eject, or spin up a disc.  They had left one in when they brought it to me.  Now I didn't touch the drive except to remove it from the chassis.  After which I got back into it and took the drive apart and everything is as it should be.  So there shouldn't be any issues with the drive.

I don't have another unit to test parts with to narrow down the problem.  I'm thinking the battery leakage compromised something on the motherboard.

Tl;DR
Unit was over heating
Found exploded CMOS battery
Drive does not function, eject button still beeps when pressed.
Will not keep date and time even with fresh lit-ion battery when main power is disconnected.

I have a thread on here of some consoles that I had stored out in a shed kinda willy nilly.  It's not pretty, I do not recommend at all.

I find that with anything I want to collect or desire that a big part of my enjoyment in obtaining the item is getting a good deal on it. I don't know it just kinda gives a 'halo effect' around it if I know I scored it on a smoking deal, I like it even more if I got it below market rate or it's uncommon to see and I found it.

The exhilaration of finding something you don't often see and the elation of getting something for a good price are really important to me for pick ups.

When I just scoop something up for going rate off of eBay or get caught up in a little bidding war I feel kinda meh, sometimes I'll feel like it was an impulse buy or that I could have gotten a better deal later or bummed that I have to wait a few days for the delivery to my house.

It's a lot more of a personable experience to find it yourself some place, it sort of becomes like a moment in time and you kind of remember where you got it, how much you paid, who you were with, what you did that day, what you were working as, where you were in your life, what you were doing with your collection at the time.

I attach more of a memory to a purchase if I find it out in the wild and it becomes more of an experience I had than just sheer consumerism. I like to physically look through every blu ray a pawn shop has hoping to get that rush when I find something that interests me or find that gold dust game at some random car boot sale than only me and so many other people were in attendance at.

Hitting buy it now on eBay and waiting for it to come just deprives of the rush of the hunt, the good deal and the instant gratification of immediately having the item in your hand (as oppose to waiting for postage). This combination of things actually makes the thing worth less to me because it misses all the fun and is just a transaction.

I actually understand where you're coming from on this.  Very rarely these days do I find anything exciting in the wild anymore.  With the rush of information you just about have to use Ebay, Amazon, or build a reputation on collection forums to get those treasures.  It does deprive you of that rush you get when you find say, Dragonforce CIB for $8

I had one of those converters too when I was connecting my Xbox One to my CRT.  I didn't have any problems with it as long as the region switch was set to NA and had it's external power supply plugged in.

Time to upgrade that TV though.

Off Topic / Re: Do You Play Other Table Top or Card Games?
« on: November 17, 2019, 11:03:52 pm »
Oh yeah.  I was a huge into MtG played for around 22 years.  I dabbled in Pokemon, YuGiOh, Force of Will, Card Fight Vanguard, Buddy Fight, UFS, and L5R.

Table top RPG's Still play the 3.5 edition of D&D also played L5R, and Deadlands back in the day

Now mostly I stick to self contained card games i.e. deck builders, Dominion, Thunderstone, etc.  Also have a fair number of board games.
