PAL-NTSC converter box recommendations?
« on: April 08, 2013, 05:55:25 am »
I live in the USA. Over the past few weeks I've been slowly building up my PAL region import collection after losing a decent chunk of it in a house fire a while back, almost exclusively for my PS2. I also lost my PAL-NTSC video converter in the fire. Now that things are finally beginning to stabilize financially for me, I'm shopping around for another converter. Problem is, I'm having a bit of trouble finding one that's reliable. My old one (I think it was Orei brand—it's been a while and I can't find the box) liked to randomly die in the middle of a playthrough if I so much as looked at it wrong, and reviewers on the internet for other brands are all over the place when judging quality. Any other importers here have any luck with their converter boxes?

Also:

1: Price isn't much of a problem, as long as it works well, but I would prefer something under $80.

2: I cannot sauter a chip in my PS2. When you attempt to play one of my favorite games, Forbidden Siren 2, on a modded PS2 or an emulator, this happens (skip to 1:18):

The colors, man. My personal favorite moment is the zombie imploding in on itself at 2:09.

Always looking to buy Drakengard, Nier, and Siren collector's items.

I too have been collecting PAL gaming systems in the last few years.
Mostly older PAL gaming systems, I do not have a PAL PS2 (yet) lol

I never bought an A/V pal converter so I don't know which ones to buy.
It's a bigger issue if you get into older systems that use RF hook-ups, I tried a PAL RF converter and the frame rate was so bad I think I saw one frame a minute lol

I also heard (but never tried it) you can get an International VCR/DVD player and hook up your PAL system through that. You can also buy a universal TV that plays all regions.

I have a PAL TV I found at a Garage Sale, They are rare here in the states and took me a year to find but they do exist. I remember looking at the back of every TV I saw at a sale looking for the PAL RF hook-up. I always got the strangest reactions when I asked "are any of your TVs PAL?". Then one day I found one, The lady was warning me it wasn't a USA TV and I said yes it's what I've been looking for and paid $20. lol
"Happy game hunting!!!"
