Ryu Hazuki /Nintendo

Am I dreaming too big and believing too many dreams when I keep reading about the voice actor of Ryu Hazuki in a studio or something and that Sega is teaming with Nintendo too plan a new Shenmue game on the Wii U...  Should I give my hopes up on a Shenmue 3, and give up my hopes of it being on the Wii U?

I dont think that shenmue 3 can be possible release on the wii u because is a console that right now isnt selling at all, comparing with ps4. See this video and you will know why Shenmue 3 or a Shenmue Hd remaster make sense on ps4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmu-l51VYTQ

However, for the same reason that Nintendo isnt selling consoles (wii u) makes the possibility that they are finding exclusive games for their console. So maybe that can be happening to attract shenmue fans to buy a new wii to get shenmue.

I give you this in argument:

Sega doesn't care. They seem to want to make Nintendo they're BFF, lately.

The phrase "If you cant beat em, join em" comes to mind.

As much as it makes me sad to say. Sega is BFFs with the PC. Nintendo is essentially Sonic. And let's face it, Sonic on Nintendo makes sense.

But the PC side has most of their big franchises; Total War, Company of Heroes, and Football Manager. These are their bigger money makers.

There was a statistic not long ago that Sonic Colors (Wii Exclusive) sold as many copies as Sonic Generations (Cross Platform). This may have changed over time. But it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to spend money on the Cross Platform side, when most Sonic fans have a Nintendo system.

I agree that Shenmue makes the most sense on PS4. If nothing else, this is where Yakuza is exclusive. Even still with Sega's release of Yakuza Ishiin.

OK I dug up some old stories from when we wrote about this on Sega Addicts. The data is probably still close to this:

Sonic Generations 1.85 million (360, PS3, DS) http://www.examiner.com/article/sega-reveals-sales-data-for-sonic-generations-yakuza-dead-souls-and-more

Sonic Colors 1.85 Million (Wii) http://www.siliconera.com/2011/02/04/vanquish-boosts-past-800000-sold-sonic-colors-sells-over-double-that-number/

Most Telling - Mario and Sonic at 2012 Olympics (Wii) 3,280,000 - http://www.examiner.com/article/sega-reveals-sales-data-for-sonic-generations-yakuza-dead-souls-and-more

Nintendo fans and Sonic fans are one and the same. However, Yakuza on WiiU is not a good match. In its debut week it sold less than 2000 copies. And Yakuza is a big series in Japan. 7 games I believe. http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/08/yakuza_1_and_2_hd_reportedly_sells_less_than_2000_copies_in_debut_week

Shenmue on WiiU does not make sense. Shenmue is closer to Yakuza than it is to Sonic. SEGA knows what it is doing signing an exclusivity deal with Nintendo on Sonic. Get some perks and some funding with no loss in sales. But Sonic seems to be the only series. Although the Platinum deal is weird. And the sales of Wonderful 101 being poor is no surprise.

The've been selling about 120,000 consoles a week in Japan recently.
