Should i buy a ps3?

I never owned a PS3 last gen I only had Wii and 360 and I feel like I skipped over so many awesome games like Last of Us and Ratchet and Clank Crack in time.  And Gamestop is doing a 20 dollar rebate on 80 dollar systems so they only cost 60 with controller and wires. that seems pretty cheap.  Does the original PS3 play PS2 games?  Thank you for any advice

If you love Rpgs then my answer is yes! Also only 1 model plays ps2 games... which is hard to find, all models can play ps1 games though.

PS3 is defenitely a great system to jump into now, especially since games are pretty cheap for the most part. There's a ton of variety on the system, especially with exclusives and JRPGs.

The original PS3 models are backwards compatible, but most of them seem to be dead due to inadequate cooling in the system design.
So getting a PS3 slim is the best and most reliable version of the PS3 to get.

ps3 is hella cheap to collect for so now is the time before they phase it out at gamestop.

edit: and make sure you check pawn shops. they sell those fuckers for cheap as shit (cheaper than gamestop usually) and they sell the games cheap too. my local pawn shop sells ALL, and i mean AAAAAAAAAALL, PS3 games for $5 a pop. cheap as shit.

Thank you everyone. I ending up buying a 250 GB Super Slim PS3 with Ratchet and Clank Crack in Time . I am impressed so far.  I am so pumped to collect all the ps exclusives I missed out on last gen. They are really affordable too. I am Going to pick up God of War III and Last of us from gamestop later

Only the first model runs PS2. As for the question, go for it. I have 40 PS3 games and only dislike 3 lol

The PS3's exclusives list is mostly RPGs, but the R&C games are sublime and well worth owning. If you like platforming then do yourself a favour and pick up Puppeteer, an overlooked gem that can be picked up for a song, it's not like the best game ever but it is a finely crafted labour of love and a joy to play.

In terms of the amount of amazing games available for it, it is the best 7th Gen console hands down. I currently have almost 200 games for it and those are all quality titles. There are still 50+ games on it that I'd like to pick up someday too.

Ehhh... since you have a 360 already. Unless you're really into turn based RPGs, or anime fighters and visual novels, I'd say no. Last of US is on PS4 now, and I'm sure a Ratchet collection is too.
