Game bundles / collections.
« on: August 04, 2017, 06:16:02 pm »
Lots of early computer games got stand alone and then collected/bundled releases:
eg, space legends had Wing commander, Elite and mega traveller.

Is there any thoughts about allow us to set some games as a collection then link or say what games were in the box?
I know that some box sets did get exclusive games so it would help if we could do both?

Or do people add the collection and the individual games to their collection?

That's an intersting question.
I don't own any PC game, so I'm not sure if this suggestion would help you, but what I believe people usually do in the case of console games is to list the titles included in a compilation in the "Description" section.

It really is everyone's own prerogative on how they catalog their collection. Me personally, if I owned a disc that had a certain collection of games included on it and there wasn't a listing for it in the DB, I would make an entry for it specifically and list out what games were included rather than track down each title on the disc in the DB and add them separately. Someone else might feel the exact opposite of me and enjoy that the ten different titles on the disc makes their collection look bigger or whatever.  ;)

If the games were included like books, insets and the like it would help us mark if any of the games were missing.
Or even provide pictures of each of the game media.

It would also be useful so we know if we have a game or not.

The database is designed for the actual physical items, not the games (data) itself.

So as an example, I have this item "Epic Megagames Adventures"
https://vgcollect.com/item/112953

It is a bundle of some full version and shareware titles. I do not go and add the individual games to my collection, but I add this one item.

Yet it still does leave me with a situation that I still need to handle outside of the site currently. Of all my compilation items, I need to keep a separate list of what is contained and on what disc. This also applies to Demo discs.

your free to add whatever you want to your own personal collection (site). if you want to split apart the collection (game) to keep an accurate count of how many different game titles you own by all means go for it. but please do not add any new items to the database unless they actually physically exist.

I cant give an example of a computer game because I do not collect computer games but I can give examples using console games.

say you have something like Crash Bandicoot: Action Pack https://vgcollect.com/item/97499 feel free to break it apart in your collection (site).
https://vgcollect.com/item/1286
https://vgcollect.com/item/22248
https://vgcollect.com/item/1113
just do not modify any of the data on the game listings.

on the other hand if you own something like Action 52 https://vgcollect.com/item/9359
do NOT create listings for the 52 games in the collection (game) as they were never given any physical releases outside of that particular game, and that is not what this site is for.
PS2 Palooza: 8/2XXX games finished
Now Playing: Dark cloud
Stopped recording so now back on track.
