Gamer Music

I just finished watching Nerdcore Rising, the documentary of MC Frontalot, on Netflix. (While cataloging Odyssey2 games, I felt more like a nerd than ever.)

Anyway, it really got me thinking about the music out there and the genre and the way it's growing. I listen to very little MC Frontalot but I love Paul and Storm and Jonathan Coulton. I also enjoy The Black Mages, Minibosses, and VGO. (As well as the more mainstream nerd stuff like Barenaked Ladies and They Might Be Giants.)

Anybody else listen to nerd music? Who do you guys like?

I don't listen to nerd music. I listen to music. If the artists are nerds, or the subject matter is nerdy, well there's that. :P

I'm very sad Minibosses didn't release a CD version of brass 2. Vinyl only. Bleh.

Anyway. I have this list but it's far from complete. This has some stuff that isn't in that other list.

Your lists definitely needs more Powerglove (their original video game-themed albums are hard to find, it's better to just torrent them, but they're working on a new one right now... and you can find their album based on cartoon music pretty easily). They do Power Metal versions of video game tunes but they tend to take a lot of liberties. Just one example:

I also like Vomitron's latest album (No NES For the Wicked), where they also made metal versions of classic game music, but they made it a point to pretty much just follow the original compositions.

Otherwise I don't really listen to so-called "nerd music", beyond some actual video game tunes (mostly 8/16-bit stuff)... and you just reminded me that I need to put some Black Mages on my iPod :P

I listen to a pretty good variety of music, I do have some "nerd music" too, but most of the time I'm either playing The Doors, Lostprophets, Weezer, Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifestio, Suburban Legends or GWAR. haha

I listen to a ton of Weird Al.  I also do not really like newer songs and listen to 80s songs instead.  The Cars are probably my favorite band of all time.
Currently Playing: Dark Souls: Remastered (Switch)

Bought this on iTunes a few weeks back, I really dig it. Especially the Contra song and the 2 part Ninja Gaiden medley.

My favorite in the album is actually the Double Dragon one. It sounds JUST like it did in the NES game when I was a kid... What? My imagination was AWESOME back then :P
Oh, and the Zelda 2 one would be my second favorite.

This is probably complete heresy to say, but I just haven't been able to get into most of the "gamer music". I think a lot of it has to do with the use of real instruments. I do like some of the remixes.

This is pretty badass though:

Here's an example of what I like from the remix side of things (most of you will likely hate it):

The Doors, Weezer, Rolling Stones, Kanye West and Skrillex are in my car right now. I've really gotten into Skrillex since last November.

I also used to really like 311, N.E.R.D., Marilyn Manson, Blink 182 and Switchfoot (Back when they were still on a Christian music label, they were god damn amazing!)

My music is very much a representation of my life: COMPLETELY RANDOM

Here's one of my favorite songs of all time:

Spacehog is cool stuff. As far as "nerd" music, I havent really listened to it. I do like some game soundtracks however.

Same here on the Weird Al. I do like some of the music that people have posted here so now I am going to go to a CD store and buy their music legally..... yeah that's it.

I wish I could have been at Tour de Japon. They capture the emotions of the songs so amazingly. They really put life into them.
