Differentiatinc original Hugo releases
« on: April 21, 2018, 07:54:22 am »
According to Wikipedia there were 6 numbered Hugo games released and gold, platinum and XL before moving to Classics series (which has two different edition of each 7 games).
The problem is that at least Finnish releases of original Hugo games don't have subtitles or numbering on jewel cases and are simple titled as HUGO:
https://vgcollect.com/item/142938
https://vgcollect.com/item/142937
https://vgcollect.com/item/124859
These all are different Hugo games. Should they be differentiated somehow or just left with identical tittles?

Unrelated rant:

By the way to make Hugo game releases even more confusing Hugo educational titles also have original jewel case releases and later numbered Leiki ja opi (Play and learn) series releases and Hugo Classic #7 is yet another re-release of 4th educational game.
And for Classic series 1-4 is re-releases of original Hugo games but 5-6 are re-releases of Jungle Island Series and as mentioned above 7 is random re-release of educational game.

I think you should use the alt-name and description fields for additional information about this mess. You could add the year of the release in parentheses at the end of the title (if you can find the year of release, that is) and differentiate between them that way.

Listed included mini games in each original, Jungle Island and Classic games (not including Classic #7) to make differentiating each release easier.
Didn't list end games on Jungle Island games as there is only one include. In it  Hugo sticks his hand in one of the three holes on the wall. I couldn't find any "official" name for it and all names I could think just sounded kinda perverted.
In Savanna Heroes https://vgcollect.com/item/127109 there should be name of playable character in front of each mini game but since those seem to be regional it would just added confusion.

Just noticed on Wikipedia page that Hugo XL has also 4th end game Magic Hands (I thought that it was as exclusive for platinum edition as Apple Harvest is). I will add it in description if my edits get approved. Sorry for trouble.

Noticed while googling English names for mini games that there exist 3rd Jungle Island game on some regions. Does anyone know if it just alt. name for Savanna Heroes: https://vgcollect.com/item/127109
or if there is classic styled Hugo game I didn't know of? If there is, time to add that to my which list alongside with Hugo Classic #4 to round up the classic series and Platinum and Gold version for exclusive contend they have.

What are some other identifiers? With same named items, we can look to describe characters on the cover, colors of the packaging, or some other detail. What is on the spines of these jewel cases?

That first entry with no TLD can't be named as such, at least in description it should be stated which country it is released in. There are other games named just "Hugo" released in Europe, least of all the German versions.

https://vgcollect.com/item/142938 has in game language selection of [DK][FI][NO][SE] and since all text on packaging is English, Scandinavian version it is.

On spine of these there is only copyright text.

Comparing mini game selection of games to Wikipedia list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_(video_game) I can deduce that:
https://vgcollect.com/item/142937 is Hugo XL
https://vgcollect.com/item/142938 is Hugo 3
https://vgcollect.com/item/124859 is Hugo 4 (Sorry for pasting ballooning twice instead of motorcycling on mini game list)

Ok but the problem now is that 142937 (Hugo XL) and 124859 (Hugo 4) have the same item name.

So maybe we could have numbers in parenthesis: "Hugo (XL)" and "Hugo (6)"
or would description of cover picture be better: "Hugo (white cover)" and "Hugo (snowman)".

This is preferred.
