Why I Never Watch Youtube Again it's Dangerous
« on: October 01, 2019, 05:15:13 pm »
You may think I'm paranoid but than again none is forcing you to read this.

I'll get straight to the point. I was watching YouTube today on my Xbox360 when all of a sudden the subtitles in which were somehow turned on. starting have ? characters. then my Xbox360's crashed twice, after a cold boot everything seemed fine

I was watching CGR Undertow again, and as the playlist continued instead or giving me ? characters the screen started popping out command lines of an adobe program. and other various coded messages. I quickly turned off the video, because I heard of a lot of talk on the internet about malware codes hidden inside videos on Youtube, also this is a problem on Facebook apparently as well

If you think about it, by using a media platform such as YouTube anyone can upload to it, and if someone or some gang wants to be an asshole you know they would have to choose YouTube to spread their work

I previously years ago only heard of malware inducing videos, only being on porn sites or free some anime sites but it seems logical that people no longer go to a lot of porn sites, and some people have the itch to write programs to steal personal data and or even destroy our equipment

it's your call but If I were you I'd stop using YouTube today and forever. Because if it can happen to porn sites and some free anime web sites it can happen to you too.

Google states
Can you get a virus by watching a video?
There's no way in the world a person can get infected with a computer virus. Hopefully, you know that. Now, your computer could in theory get infected with a virus while you're watching a video, but the watching of the video would not be what's causing the infection

I think someone is editing the code in some of the videos

You can't edit code in videos to spread a virus on youtube.  You can click links put onto the video or in the comments that might link to that, but this isn't what is happening.  There are certainly places that can pump out malware and viruses if you aren't careful of where you are browsing, usually websites that involve less than legal stuff, but that's vastly different than Youtube.

I don't know if it'll make you feel better Oldgamerz, but Xbox One and Xbox 360 are pretty close to impossible to be infected with Malware or Viruses.  Xbox can't run unsigned code, which means it can't run anything that's not placed on the windows store or sideloaded in dev mode.  It is sandboxed.  Every app is isolated from eachother.  So any attempt at an exploit would be restricted to the confines of the app itself.   Hackers only access to Xbox and Sony as of recent were DDOS attacks on the entire server which only results in a crash of the online.  And none of the apps mentioned gather user data nor can they.    Even to deliberately jail break and CFW your own hardware, it would take a very concentrated effort.  It's nothing a virus could manage just browsing in private functions.

As for YouTube,  the way the site is setup, it's impossible even on PC for the videos or the actual UI to be infected with malware or spyware.  They are one of the most sophisticated and used sites in the world.  And billions trust the site every day.   And it's never been a thing involving them.

Idk if it will make you feel better,  but when I encounter something on my PC that I think is too sketchy to risk.  I go on my xbox.  I know it's impervious.

I will say that the YouTube app for Xbox 360 was always pretty unreliable.  And now that Xbox 360 is getting older and losing support, it might need updating.  And it probably is a fault of the app itself.

Not that I'm doubting you. But do you have any evidence or screenshots? A single screenshot could have it answered in a about 5 minutes probably by someone intelligent.

no, this happened on an Xbox 360 the subtitles all of a sudden appeared out of nowhere and looked like was gibberish. but with intelligence. But it didn't look just like any ordinary prankster or child went crazy on the keyboard either.

but it looked like a bunch of garbled words or codes I could not read in command prompt form. except one of them spelled adobe in which I think it was some type of code that may or may not have some effect on the Adobe Flash Player app? that most people use for watching YouTube videos?

I took a little web design coarse in highschool

It's an Xbox 360. I'm surprised that it still functions correctly at all. It's just a glitch. Unless Xbox Live gets hacked, and you have like a payment method tied to your account then I wouldn't think twice.

You want to hear something really creepy? Way back before Sep 11 ever happened, my friend and I were messing around on his PC and all of a sudden it just starts typing stuff in the text field of a document or search, or something we were doing. But it didn't type words, it was entering special characters that we had no idea you could even do with text. The characters were weird, and random, but there was a pattern where it kept typing out an airplane and a bomb or explosion text character.

It was really weird, like someone else was entering that text. As soon he started typing again, it just stopped. A few months later, the attacks happened. It took us a while to connect those dots. I don't really think it meant anything, but still creepy.

Hey Marv, you hear something?  ???

No need to worry OldGamer, YouTube is very Glitchy on 360.  Watch it on your Xbox One if you have, it's a much smoother experience.

Research Character Encoding.

A little off topic but I do know a little more.

to note anyone who does not know, every key and every character and combo on a keyboard produces a different binary code, just like when you press the letter T on the keyboard. Deep inside our computer or device makes a unique IO combination. Most of today's electronics use binary code to use with anything really. But I heard that some other foreign computers do not use binary code anymore.

I don't understand character encoding or how to create programs from scratch, but I did design a few  web sites manually but the host gave out. once.

I is an on trigger and O is an off trigger, So i believe that the I part of binary code means to accept or turn something on in the electronic and O in binary code is a trigger to deny, turn off or trigger something to not do something, but I could be wrong

But not too many people know how to implement code successfully. now a days if you know how to do binary code this manually you can do anything. if you know all the binary combos by heart. every letter or number or character you press does something different

I do believe that sometimes their are spirits and atmospheric disturbances that can cause errors to electronics and cause things that are not normal to happen.  A super nova star in outer space is said to have the power to wipe our credit cards if it gets too close to the Earth.

One time the news reported a solar flare or something in space on the day that I heard a sound system in a restaurant playing the radio  went from soft volume to extremely loud volume in a matter of seconds without anyone touching the volume.

But I am still suspicious of YouTube, and I believe that that a person was responsible for what happen

I just don't think there are many people out there who have any interest in hacking just to mess with people. Hacking is usually done to steal information of some sort, and sell it. There are places on the deep web where you can pay hackers for some poor sap's credit card info. Governments pay hackers for foreign intelligence. Politicians pay hackers for dirt on other politicians. Sometimes hackers will destroy things out of malice, or maybe hold devices in a ransom. But just to mess with you is kinda far fetched.

There are some who do it for pleasure though or to feel the power to make someone feel like the hacker controls their life, I don't understand it either but sometimes a hacker does it for fun. trust me, :-\

Most likely the stream glitched in such a way that the closed captioning got corrupted or the font loaded into memory got overwritten. Probably just a bug in the code.

Disturbing, yes. But nothing to worry too much about.
