Should pre-installed software be listed?
« on: March 31, 2020, 02:52:23 am »
I was looking at my digital 3DS collection and I noticed about half of what I have listed is pre-installed software. This is software that comes pre-installed on every 3DS and cannot be deleted. Does it make sense to keep listings for these on the site?

Examples:
AR Games https://vgcollect.com/item/22986
Face Raiders https://vgcollect.com/item/20804
Mii Maker https://vgcollect.com/item/74781
Nintendo Video https://vgcollect.com/item/44101
StreetPass Mii Plaza https://vgcollect.com/item/22987

I don't think it's pre-installed but Netflix also has a listing. Only digital version of Netflix currently on the site. https://vgcollect.com/item/49744

Exclusions?
Find Mii - This is a game within StreetPass. Not sure if that should just be considered DLC for StreetPass but they also sold a few other games within StreetPass that weren't included for free. https://vgcollect.com/item/82136

Swapnote - I believe this was discontinued so still having it is kinda like having PT on a PS4. https://vgcollect.com/item/38548

Oh and here's another listing for pre-installed software but for PS4. The Playroom is pre-installed on all PS4 systems. https://vgcollect.com/item/86158

Our listings are for store offerings only. The database is not for "data" and our site cannot be used in this way by data collectors.
Those listings should be removed.
I would say if the item can be removed and can be installed from the store, it could stay.

Netflix I would say should probably go though regardless, unless we're going to allow stuff like Hulu, Amazon Video, Disney+, etc on places like PSN/XBL.

The categories we have are for the store, so any item not in the store should not be listed in the store category.
Any item that is pre-installed to a device can be in the description of the specific console itself.
So, pre-installed things do not get separate listing. For example, we do not allow for a listing of Snail Maze for Sega Master System.

Need confirmation on Nintendo Video.

Whoops. Nintendo Video was not at launch, my bad. I feel like it may have come pre-installed after the initial 3DS price cut but can't really find proof of that. It was a video service though and not a game.

I also left out Puzzle Swap which is a free part of StreetPass. https://vgcollect.com/item/82137

i agree with ignition365.
To me if it's something that cannot be uninstalled and is part of the OS or firmware than it shouldn't be in the database. It's just a console feature at that point.

I’d say so. There’s nothing wrong with that as long as it’s a game.
