RUMOR: Xbox Multiplayer Free?

This combined with Microsoft stopping it's sales of 6- and 12-month Gold subscriptions point to the paywall for multiplayer being gone!
Thoughts?

They shouldn't have started it in the first place.

I don't want Sony to get rid of PS Plus. It's been on sale lately for around $30 for a year and pretty much pays for itself in just one month and the other 11 months are just icing on the cake.

I wouldn't miss Nintendo's service much unless they had Nintendo 64.

I'm doubting that it'll become free. What's more likely is it will be integrated into Game Pass instead.

I don't think so, there is just way too much money involved. Xbox Live has roughly 90 million monthly users, that's a huge chunk of money they're willing to throw out the window if they make it free.

Probably an option to tie it in with a Game Pass Subscription.

I agree that they make too much off gold to just drop it. FYI they already have an option to tie it in with game pass, and have for awhile now. It's called game pass ultimate and it's 15 bucks a month. I have no interest in game pass, so hopefully gold doesn't get a mandatory tie to it.

It would be pretty sweet if online multiplayer becomes free again.

Because in all honesty I couldn't care less about the monthly free games, I didn't choose them it's not what I want to spend my time on the most anyway.

The only reason for me to get a subscription is to play them games online.

I miss them wii, wii u ds 3ds days.

Pc is superior for 2d fighting games anyways same for shooters so I guess it's not that bad if sony and microsoft keep those yearly pricy subscription up.

If they can just seperate online multiplayers and just only do game passes for 50 - 60$ a year they might still have the same kind of revenue since allot of people do find good value in them free games.

Also considering how cheap nintendo's service is especially with friends for multiple accounts at the very least it's cheap as chips for me personally less than 5$ a year. and the online is literally the same for them games as on other platforms. I'd argue even better considering how on say sony, you'll get lagg spikes or a less smooth connection in 2d fighting games in even ranked matches as in against people who aren't newbies with wifi that's just trash. if you got anything with tight controls in wich frames matter both microsoft and sony are trash. There are fortunately fighting games that have rollback injustice Mk 11 and more are on the way so at the very least that's a good thing.

At the very least in smash you'll only have a shitty experience in the lower ranks, in elite smash and higher or with friends it's a pretty nice connection it's almost as good as local co op.

Let alone that majority of other games on all 3 platforms such as shooters or racing games just have smooth ways to camouflage bad connections in wich it isn't noticable for others.

but again them old games in the service are nice and all, but nobody is buying the service for them old games, your paying for online multiplayer. I'd rather have it for free but if it stays this cheap I'm pretty alright with it for now. hope they won't increase the price because of a trash game pass like sony or microsoft or heck return to free multiplayer again. I really couldn't care less if n64 or gamecube games are ever added especially if it would increase the price for online multiplayer.
