This in unfounded information that originated from a website nobody ever heard about before. It's causing mass panic on several sites over the last 24 hours.... posting this unverified information is reckless and stupid.

Why would updates be effected by the store anyway?

Well years ago SONY closed down the PS3 Music CD information Server and SONY's Excuse was? that someone was caught cheating on their spouse.

technically SONY has the right to do this to the patch servers and store as well, I hope the patches will stay active but only time will tell.

I'm aware they can do it if they want, I'm just saying that this is an unfounded rumor from one article posted on a website that nobody has ever heard of.

Hi,

I have found a little way to by-pass this with certain games DLC. You can't pay with your Credit/Debit Card but you can purchase PSN vouchers online and apply them still. I'm not sure if this will be available after the PS Store goes down fully so you might want to take advantage of this while you can. I made a video toot' to show how you can do this step-by-step in-case anyone's interested :)

The PS3 store still works perfectly fine. In game access to the store still requires the store...so if that goes down, the in game store wont work (Try it for games with removed DLC. it doesn't work)

BTW still no evidence that anything is happening with the store, but anything for more clicks I guess......

Allot of people seem to make them last minute buys in bulk from what I've noticed with dlc and some exclusive download only games

Quite a gold mine move of sony.

Just imagine them suddenly changing their mind and keeping them open  ::)

They've never stated that any of this is going to happen. This all came from an unverified, non-credible source.

Well whether true or not, only time can tell.

Good news is since the PlayStation 3 has an other online internet capability. the patches could at least (I hope) could come from a third party online fan made source in the future.

You can even run an online server with a PlayStation 3 console, if you know how. you can also create your own online game server online and connect other PS3's to it, although I never tried or never knew how to do this. But A long time ago I spoke to a SONY customer support member and he said that this is possible but he didn't recommend this however.

The PS3 has a lot of hidden abilities that could make it possible to get the patches downloaded directly to the PS3 off any online source.

Apparently in the USA it does but here in the UK you can't purchase anything! The PS Store boots up for navigation but there is no option for purchasing items anymore. Which is why the loophole on the few games that have the In-Game stores is pretty important for people wanting to get their last chance on DLC items. I bought some of the XIII-2 Bosses and forgotten Dead Space 2 had a small extra single player DLC called Severed.

What if they leaked it on purpose. especially when it's from a non-credible source if they keep it open anyway, they won't even dirty their hands that way because they never officially stated it.

Eitherway allot of people are buying stuff in bulk atm not just collectors. Pretty interesting I'd say.

Hi PlayStation Gamer,
We are closing PlayStation™Store on PlayStation®3 on 2 July 2021 and on PlayStation®Vita devices on 27 August 2021. Additionally, the remaining purchase functionality for PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) will also retire on 2 July 2021. After thoughtful consideration, we decided to make these changes in an effort to focus our resources for PlayStation Store on PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5, which will enable us to enhance the customer experience even further. We thank you for your support on these platforms throughout the years.

What does this mean for you?
You will no longer be able to purchase PS3, PS Vita and PSP digital content, including games and video content.

You will also no longer be able to make in-game purchases through games on PS3, PS Vita and PSP.

While the PSP storefront was previously closed in 2016, the remaining PSP purchase functionality (e.g. in-game purchases) will now be fully retired.

What about content you already own?

• You will still be able to download your owned PS3, PS Vita, and PSP content, including games and video content.
• You can download your owned content onto your PS3, PS Vita, or PSP by accessing the Download List on the respective device.
• If you have purchased a PS3/PS Vita cross-buy bundle and have only downloaded either the PS3 or PS Vita version, you will need to download the other version prior to the closure of PlayStation™Store on the relevant device.
• Video content that you own can be streamed on PS3, PS4 or PS5 through the My Videos app, or on mobile devices through the PlayStation™Video app.
• You will still be able to re-download and play game titles you have claimed through PlayStation®Plus as long as you remain a member of the service.

What about vouchers, wallet funds, and cross-buy content?
• You will still be able to redeem game and PlayStation®Plus vouchers on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP devices once PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality for these devices close.
• You will no longer be able to redeem PSN wallet fund vouchers (e.g. gift cards) on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP devices once PlayStation™Store and purchase functionality for these devices close.
• Your PSN wallet funds will remain in your PSN account, but you will only be able to use your wallet funds to purchase PS4 and PS5 products on PlayStation™Store on the web, PlayStation®App, or on PS4 and PS5 consoles.
• You will still be able to purchase cross-buy content through PlayStation™Store on the web, PlayStation®App, or on PS4 and PS5 consoles and access both the PS4 version and the PS3/PS Vita/PSP versions.

*Termination will start on 28 June 2021, actual date of the termination may differ by region.

Nothing speaking about the Updates for the games though...

Updates are on the download servers just like the games themselves. Why would they keep the games but remove the updates? Also, seems like TheGamer just earned a ton af credibility, lol

Luckily, Right around Christmas i decided to pick up anything left that I still wanted, since they weren't doing sales anymore. I did impulse buy a Ghostbusters game this weekend since it was $5 and I had $8 in my account. I'll have to double check my DLC, but I'm 99% sure I have everything I need.

(somewhat off topic but)
There was a free program I forgot the name of. That I used once to connect my NA PS3 to my Windows 7 PC and install music directly from my PC to my PS3's harddrive

With something similar I could assume a program could be built so people can manually download the PS3 game patches when the official server has been closed. I hope so

the bad news is, the built in PS3 backup utility does not back up all the game patches so once your current PS3 dies you will no longer have some of the patches for a lot of the games.
