What retro items you are expecting will get expensier this 2021?

I dont follow the retro updates all the time but is clear that some retro items always get expensier each year.

So what are the items that you are expecting will increase their prices this 2021?

I expect pretty much the following:

1 - NES games
2 - PSX games
3 - Genesis games

I expect mostly japanese PSX games will increase their value, and like always classic videogames from the NES.

I dont expect much from PS2 games, I think only the most sought titles like Kuon or Suikoden V will get expensier for at least some 30$, other items possible will keep a good price.

So, thats my question, what are the retro items that you are expecting will increase their value next year?

A ton of PlayStation 2 and original Xbox games I think will go up. I think NES and SNES will start to die out since those games and Nintendo 64 games can all be emulated illegally for free Atari 2600 and. NES games and SNES games are vary easy to emulate, and they don't take up much file space to make them even fit on the smallest MINI SD cards out there. and then inserted into some kind of handheld devices and mobile devices. with the PlayStation 1 following close behind then trailing behind, that. the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games.

Emulation has been around since the late 90s. It has never affected game prices.

It's tough to say we have seen a dramatic increase in just about everything since covid.prices are slowly going down now but I don't think they will fall to before covid prices anytime soon.I was surprised to see alot of games that were reasonably priced in the 20 to 30 range shoot up to 100+ im talking about games I had in my collection for 15 or 20 years and I thought would never increase in value.But if I was betting on games increasing it would be the usual suspects Saturn,Nes,Snes,N64,Ps1 and mabey Ps2 and GameCube.

NES games pretty much have leveled out except for already "super rare" titles like Little Samson and Flintsones 2.
Popular games TBH, have held their current value for some time now, Mario and Zelda games have not shot up in value that much. You can still pick up a copy of Mario 3 for $10 and Zelda has been a $15-$20 game for a long time.

PS1 games its mostly the games that age well, games that are early polygon don't age well and most people have a hard time wanting to play them today.
While pixel sprite based games, like Mega Man 8, Silhouette Mirage, Suikoden 1 & 2, Tactics Ogre, FFT, Castlevania etc still look great and more people are looking to want to play these games today.
The exception I would say are horror and maybe RPG games will hold more value, even if they are early polygon.
I have been going after Japanese games and most of the games that are English friendly and only released in Japan seem to be getting more expensive I noticed.

Genesis games, Shooter games will always be sought after and will go up or hold value it feels.

Post off topic somewhat

Never understood why a lot of used single release shoot em ups cost so much money a piece, I got a ton of them for every  console and PC. and most of them are on compilations, or I purchased them all at once on one CD or cartridge. I gotten so many of them I don't know which one to beat first, I find them frustrating.

RPG's attract casual most gamers, I never found them especially turn based ones to be exciting , in turn based tactical RPG's I've played I think they are boring, I would much rather play something like Zelda in which I think would consider that more of a hack and slash RPG. If you guys like RPG's most of the console versions of The Sims People Simulator games are somewhat like RPG's a little bit. I love Pokémon games but that's about the only TB-RPG I like

I am a causal gamer, myself, but for some reason I never got into any turn based RPG's I played Phantasy Star 2 and it was fun. until the first battle I was hoping for something like Pokémon but I got a turn based strategy game instead, I didn't know what to do so because the game gave no instructions and I lost all my team on the first battle and got a game over. Pokémon is a fun turn based RPG and it's easy for me to pick up and play but at least you don't need to start the game over again if you lose, a battle unlike most of the other TB-RPGS I've played

Retro game prices have risen with each generation that enjoyed them between the ages of 5 and 16 getting to that period in life where they have a career and disposable income without major responsibilities like kids, mortgages, marriage, and all that stuff. With that said, Gen 5 stuff was the most recent console gen to see an explosion in popularity and price, with gen 6 starting to get hit as well. I think gen 5 will continue to rise a little, whle gen 6 stuff, particularly Gamecube and PS2 will continue to go way, way up. I think Gen 3 (NES, Master System), and Gen 4 (SNES, Genesis) will continue to decline overall over the next few years since those consoles saw their prime collecting days 4 or 5 years ago.


I'm really curious to see what happens once people that were in that age bracket who grew up with consoles like the Wii and 360, come of age more. This has already happened and I feel like I've seen a very mild interest in Wii collecting over the last year, but winder if it'll really take off in the same way it did for all previous Nintendo gens. I almost think Gen 7 might be the last console gen anyone gives a crap about collecting for since things really changed during and after that gen. I guess we'll see.


But in short, here are my 2021 predictions:


1. Gen 5 will go up slightly, Gen 6 will go up a lot
2. Gen 3 and Gen 4 will go down slightly
3. Wii prices will go up very slightly, but the PS3 and 360 will likely decline some more over the next few years until people get sentimental about them.

Other than those, I think Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest can safely be called a "casual" RPG.

Yo-kai Watch comes to mind. Perhaps Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, as well...maybe? I admit I haven't played it yet; I'm mostly basing my guess solely on the game's appearance.

It is a reference to Gradius Galaxies or Gradius 3 when you start the game a title screen saying "Start" appears.
I dont like making long greetings, I prefer to going to the point, but yeah it also remind me of Mario Party.

I think some RPGs are for casual people of course, but I have noted that it is not a genre that average players like at all, but I am confident I am wrong, though

This year is the 20th anniversary of the original Xbox releasing. The articles that come out saying that will probably spark some nostalgia and the games will in turn go up in price.
