Wii Us are Bricking

So the latest news in the video game world is that Wii Us are bricking on their own after long periods of not being in use.

I'm not clear if they just need to stay plugged-in or if they actually have to be used. Mine stays hooked-up and plugged-in as all of my consoles do. And mine still runs fine after checking it, so I think it just has to be plugged-in.

Is your Wii U still running?

Mine is keep in stand-by mode, and I use it occasionally. I think those impacted are the ones who unhooked and stored their console for a long time. Think it has to do with the memory requiring a minuscule electrical charge over time, same deal with Switch and potentially even Switch games in the future.

Mine was stored in the box for years until i heard about this so i hooked mine back up and it still works fine.
Mabey im lucky cause it hasn't been turned on since a couple years after it's release.

I've had my Wii U since 2013 and it's worked like a champ since then. It's always been hooked up and ready to go and never neglected for more than a month or so. I'm not afraid of the NAND corruption because for one, I think the issue is overblown, and secondly, it seems only a certain type of NAND chip is being affected, and my 8GB console doesn't have it. The Wii U is by far my biggest collection as I own 120+ discs and 72 digital titles.

it doesn't have much to do with usage from what I've read, if ye got the poor chip set it will just die faster.

That being said atm it's not to pricy to replace if it happens. 2nd hand stores sell seperate 32GB units for 30$ over here.

Mine still works great, though I've had mine hooked up at all times and have been intermittently playing games on it since I got it in late 2016. I do need to clean it at some point though.
