Wasn't expecting someone else to keep up my tradition of best pickups of the year.
I was in the middle of writing it and then got sick and was late getting it done.
Here's my top 30 pickups this year.
30. Sega Mega Drive I always wanted a Mega Drive original system but never picked one up due to I had other Mega drive systems to use,
Then I got this one for dirt cheap because it had a "rattle" in it, just some random screw I removed. Works great.
29. RockMan X3 (SAT)I honestly didn't know X3 was on Saturn/PS1 in japan, I was happy to get this for cheap.
28. Makaimura for Wonderswan (WS)Found this from the seller that sells cheap Japanese games, I really want as many Wonderswan games
as i can get for cheap, This was a good one.
27. Rockman & Forte (WS)I love Mega Man (rockman) games and when I had a chance to get the Wonderswan game I had to get it.
26. Shenmue 2 (DC)Even though I had the Xbox version I always wanted to try the Dreamcast version,
But it was not released in the U.S. I found this at my local used game store and had to pick it up.
25. Baldur's Gate 3 (XBSX)This makes the list due to I was excited to see a physical copy of the game being released.
24. Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap(SMS)I don't add many SMS games to my collection nowadays and getting a Quality SMS game is even better.
23. Orange Gamecube IDK how long its been but I always wanted a Spice Orange Gamecube, But they usually where more then I wanted to spend.
One day I see on on my favorite seller site for
22. Polymega and expansionsI pre ordered the base system and several of it's expansion packs well over two years ago. I was excited when they finally came in the mail.
I tested it out and it work very well, even plays games straight off the disc/cart or download it to the system.
I honestly was pretty impressed with it. I use it to put less wear and tear on my rarer consoles.
21. Ninja Gaiden Shadow (GB)This was a Ninja Gaiden game that I never found in the wild till this last year. It was at game store I've never been in before
and this game was underpriced, maybe it was there a long time and no one noticed.
20. Tetris (MSX2)MSX games are not common to find outside eBay. When I saw this show up on a Japanese store site for more then half what sellers
want for it on eBay I had to grab it
19. Gofer no Yabou: Episode II (MSX)After Tetris more MSX games showed up, and good lord they where cheap compared to every other online site. so when this
game showed up, a shmup for the MSX going far a third what it goes for on eBay and other sites I grabbed it up.
18. Nintendo Switch Lite Zelda EditionAs a die hard Zelda fan I knew I had to get this once it was announced. I got most every other Zelda Handheld system and I had to add this
to my collection. Thank God it wasn't to hard to get once pre orders where available.
17. Time Bokan Series: Bokan to Ippatsu! Doronbo (PS1)A game I was surprised to see going for $7 on a seller I follow and buying a ton of Japanese game from this year.
Its an overhead shooter based on a anime in Japan, I don't watch the anime but the PS1 game it a lot of fun.
16. L-Dis (PCECD)As I big fan of shmups I was shocked to find a PCE shmup going for $7. This game i knew little about but once I played it it pretty darn good.
15. Dead or Alive 2 (Naomi)I don't buy Naomi carts often, they are extremely pricy, but one day I see a seller on an online site selling this game for
WAY under eBay. I took a chance and purchased it, fearing it was a counterfeit or it didn't work.
The cart showed up in the mail and it was a legit cart, but when I hooked up my consoled Naomi and tested it it wouldn't run right.
Thought I got screwed then I noticed none of my carts worked right. WTH.... I released it was my TV, I hooked it up to my older 1080 HDTV and it worked fine.
The Naomi system don't like 4K TV's a guess.
14. Rhino Rumble (GBC)This is a very rare GBC game, its been on my watch list for years, then one day I stop at a random store on my long
distance game hunts and see this game in the case, it was half what Ebay sellers where asking for it.
So I had to grab it.
13. Pokémon Black (DS)I own every Pokemon game in the main series... except this one. I was always hoping to find it at a garage sale.
I even had the case and manual but no cart for years. Then one day a game store got in a loose copy at a low price and
I had discount points to bring it even lower and pulled the trigger, put the cart with my case and manual and now have
every Pokemon game in the main series.
12. Hermie Hopperhead (PS1)This game was never an expensive game, but its been on my wish list for years. Kind of a hidden gem.
Thanks to my recent seller I follow I see one appear and get a copy for about $5.
11. DoReMi Fantasy: Milon's DokiDoki Adventure (SFAM)I have a hit list of many Japanese Super Famicom games, this was one that I just never found at the right price.
Then one day seeing one online at an already decent price and a "make an offer" I sent an offer and to my surprise the seller excepted.
Cross one more off my list.
10. Haunting starring Polterguy (GEN)A game that I've wanted in my collection for years, but every time I find it its a loose cart or its in rough shape.
So when I was on one of my long distance game hunting adventures, I find this game in mint shape for just under the going prices online.
I knew I had to get this game finally in my collection.
9. DonPachi (SAT)I Love my Shmups, This one and it's followup game where on my want list for years. But I never pulled the trigger.
Finally saw it for an incredible price and got it.
8. DoDonPachi (SAT)As I stated, I'm a Shmup fan, and Saturn Shumps are on my hit list, I got both DonPachi games for a great price this year.
7. Gameboy Pocket - OG GreyI love the OG Gameboy style look, and when I saw a Pocket that was never released in the US with OG colors for $27
I had to grab it.
6. Faimcom AV SystemAnother console variant I never got for whatever reason. I see one for $45 and grabbed it.
5. PlayStation 5 - 30th Anniversary EditionWhen they announced the 30th Anniversary edition of the Pro and the Slim. I wanted one.
I missed out on the PS4 25th anniversary and was always sad about that I wasn't going to miss this one.
I originally wanted a Pro (even though I think its not worth the price) but had to settle for a Slim.
I didn't have a PS5 Slim in my collection so I'm happy to at least get this.
(Though I'm still mad it's $500 with no disc drive, FU Sony)
4. Doctor PC Jr.I originally saw this console on a video on Youtube and put it on my watchlist on eBay.
Years past and finally one showed up in box but it was listed as it didn't work.
I sent the seller an offer and he accepted, Figured I'd take a chance and see if it was fixable.
Turns out it had the wrong AC adapter, once I gave it the correct adapter it needed it worked great.
3. Manic Game Girl (PS1)This was a game I just love the idea, about a gamer girl who gets super powers from video games.
This game was a South Korean exclusive and when someone sent me an offer for a sealed copy for far less
then an opened copy goes for I finally got this game in my collection.
2. Excite Invader (Gakken)This was the last game I needed for a complete collection for the Gakken Compact Vision.
A game that took me for ever to find at a decent price, I sent the seller an offer and got excepted.
Now if I can just find that last loopy game.
1. Music Machine (2600)This was an Atari 2600 game I've wanted in my collection for years, I sent an offer to a seller and it was excepted at a great price.
It this point any original 2600 game not in my collection is a big deal due to I'm only missing heavy hitters.
