How to identify CD Laser Pick up in old Vintage walkman
« on: February 05, 2014, 01:29:52 am »
Hey folks,

I bought an old portable CD Player the other day for a few bucks. It's an old Citizen CBM 2000, manufactured in Japan 1987.

I was wondering if there's anyway to tell what model CD Laser unit it has inside, without taking the whole thing apart.

My Turbo CD is failing, and I was hoping to replace laser inside.  The Turbo CD uses the Sony KSS-162a or KSS-220a, which was in many Sony Discmans around that time (1987-1989) (check the link below for more details).

My question is... are Sony CD Lasers only available Sony Discmen? What are the chances this Citizen CD Player uses a sony cd laser?

here's a crappy youtube video of the CD player I have lol: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oX8QRFdL6aI

thanks for your help!  :D

unfortunately you will need to take it a part because we need the model number to get the best match and thats not even the worst part , the worst part is that 98% of CD players are not modular at all and have everything soldered make repair vary messy but it is possible to do but first you will need  model number and this can be a bit difficult to get
