Sega game gear
« on: February 17, 2015, 01:50:43 pm »
Hello everyone i have had a Game Gear for a long time now but its hasnt been able to turn on in about 3 years now. I read that the issue its experiencing is the corrosion of the capacitors and every capacitor would need replacing but i have been unable to find a list of all necisary compoonents anywhere. can someone post a list of all capacitors with store locations to find them or someplace that may offer an all in one replacement kit, Or would it just be more cost effective if i went out and bought another game gear?

I have no soldering experience but my brother has extensive experience with it and said he will fix it free if i am able to find all the components.

Thank you in advance!!

Haven't done mine yet but been looking at this. There are lots of guides out there as to what to do - http://www.amazon.com/Sega-Game-Gear-Capacitor-Replacement-Kit/dp/B005VR2OUG

You first have to look at the model number to see which board revision you have. 2110 is by far the most common and uses the VA1 motherboard. If it a 2110K than it's a VA4 but I wouldn't bother with those as they quite often have unrepairable screen issues where sections of the screen permanently die out. The 2110G and Majesco Game Gears have the VA5 motherboard.

Here's a good place to buy cap kits

Here's also some information about cap values, location and board revisions.

Have the same problem with PAC-S10 Sega module for Pioneer Laseractive units.

Capacitors gooing up the whole module.

I lost my Game Gear sound recently so I guess I am in the same boat.

Should I just go ahead and replace them all, or is that a waste of time?

my Game Gear will turn on but i think the back light is shot since the screen is not too bright. Also I can only play it via ac adapter since the battery compartment is corroded. Thank god that Sega didn't have to come out with a different adapter and i can used the Model 2 Gen AC Adapter.
