Tomb Raider: Legend - PSP [EU]
    http://vgcollect.com/item/42680 <- complete & correct data/images
http://vgcollect.com/item/57928 <- dupe? Do we keep games with Pegi & USK ratings separated? Anyway, this image is bogus
because the PSP version has a Pegi-16 rating.

When the game was released it had a Pegi 12 rating (on any platform as we can see on the cover for PS2, PC, or Xbox), the game got a Pegi 16 rating between the first release of the game and the second version (Psp Essentials, Platinum, ect...) so the cover is original.

But i would really like to know if we keep more than one entry of the more recent games just because they have a different rating or they have something different on the cover (like we keep any old games because of some differences like the four US version of Super Mario Bros. 3 on Nes), i still have more than 2000 items to add and i wouldn't like to see them being erased after scanning them all (and i don't mind having the wrong cover when the only different thing is the rating or some small unreadable tag).

Keep the different versions.
1. It doesn't hurt anything
2. You don't have to use them
3. People collect different releases/variations and deserve to have the ability to track them separately.

You can find that Tomb Raider game with same front on Ebay.co.uk. It exists as shown with that picture.

That's exactly what i think too but seeing more and more people report them as duplicate (and being merged together with the "original") i start to question myself, many items in my collection are different from the ones in the database (and i don't even talk about the back cover otherwise many more item would be different because almost all my items have a french backcover) i don't feel it worth to scan my collection if they are going to be erased afterwards.

Certain things will stop something from being merged. If you have an item that is not in the database, but falls into the category of an item that is a variation, you need to be specific about it. When I add a variation I know to exist BUT can't find a good enough picture to use, I will put in the description as to what is different. Also be sure to add in the barcode or item number. Often times in EU releases, you can have 2 items have the same front but have different backs and different numbers. Also don't forget to put in the country codes for localised games. France is [FR] and Canada is [CA]. As an example, look at the PSP releases of Prince of Persia: Revelations.

Thanks you for all the infos, i will try to follow them and have more confidence into the VGC Staff ;) (after all they didn't merged my French Xbox Robotech Battlecry even though it's been already reported).

I think it's important to recognize that the items in your collection don't match what someone else would have in their collection, even if it's a minor difference.

For instance, I'm going to create a record (with my own scans) for PaRappa the Rapper on PSP as I received a Canadian copy for Christmas. We have a NA version already in the database, but the extra French on the front and back cover is enough for me to want to have a separate item record. I think the admin are good about not merging/deleting items if it's clear that there's a variation. If anything, I'll make sure to include in the title that it's the Canada-specific NA version.

I haven't run into any situations that I know of where something I created was deleted/merged incorrectly, but sometimes I'll keep my scans stored on a cloud server somewhere just in case anything happens. We're all human, after all  ;)

I know about the ratings of the other versions, but because the PSP version had a different developer (Buzz Monkey), that sometimes results in some changes warranting a different rating. I should know better than to make such assumptions and promise to be more careful in the future. For the life of me, I still can't figure out how to properly reply to a reply. So, I'm inserted my reply here.

Don't worry about it, i only knew about the rating because i have that game in my collection and found it strange to see a platinum version of the same game with a different Pegi rating a few months ago ;)

To be really honest, all the game with different cover that i have seen been merged weren't tag correctly (same name without any country code or any rating information), i think i was a bit salty to see a game from my collection disappear from the database, i guess i just have to scan it and made a new entry (with all info and country tag this time) for it that's all  ;D

Ah, totally understandable. Admins will usually try to look through the record to see if there's any info differentiating the dupes. The description field is handy for including information specific to the variation, like this record:

http://vgcollect.com/item/17269

I didn't want it to get deleted or confused since it had a different cover variation, and I tried to specify that difference in the description portion (and the title).

Hopefully it's not too difficult to scan! I hate when I go through all that work and it ends up being for naught.

Hehe, I guess there was strong Kickstarter support from EU, too, then :) I'll have to get my NA copy scanned and put up soon.

Not running the full gamut on this category, just this bit because I noticed a couple dupes were in the 5 recent list gizmo.
