How does one know it is "Launch Edition" by looking at it?
Which entry is 98087 a dupe of, 45466 or 103649? You are the only one to have 98087 in the collection with no barcode or item number.

thats why I linked the original thread from back when.  The Launch edition SHOULD have the original UPC  or the original item should be renamed to Launch edition and the other 2 merged.

If I were to pick up the item used, how would I know it was Launch Edition? It would seem to me, that if the term "Launch Edition" is not on the packaging, then it should not be in the item's title, and that "Launch Edition" would be something you put in the description field.
And, still, which is which? Can you answer the question specifically, the one above with the item numbers?

This is the type of stuff that gets frustrating when dealing with different admins.  Back when this first came up months ago, I was told to submit a new item with the added "Launch Edition" or "Launch Bundle".

Barcode 083717202721 goes to the first print run that came with an artbook and slipcase.

The other barcodes would be a second and third printing, I presume.

I told you they aren't in sync with their own rules. I guess just find the right time to submit something into the database. It'll get approved eventually by someone or just don't submit anything anymore. An effort will eventually be made to work in unison.

C'mon now, no need for sour grapes.  :P

I'd say it's more of a case of that some admins are more "letter of the law" than others but they're all human so we should expect interpretations of the Style Guide to vary slightly because of that.

I was meaning to reply to your other thread before it got locked and I understand what you're saying about reducing clutter in the database but if there indeed 3 different versions with three different sets of barcodes and item numbers then there should be three separate entries. Yeah it can be confusing to some who just want to put the game in their collection and be done with it but a little due diligence on their part can help them determine which version they own.  ;)

More like a mouthful of lemon when on separate occasions your entries get accepted and then suddenly they start getting denied for the same reason they were accepted to begin with. My issue isn't the multiple entries, I was the one that created a new entry after the mod suggested I do so, but now ctracy is making something out of it. So, I want to know what's the deal. Was I right or did I create a dupe at the request of a mod? We need a clear cut answer.

I haven't been tracking this MGS saga for too long, but I just wanted to mention that, to help validate what differentiates a "launch edition" from second prints that may not include parts, like an artbook/soundtrack/slipcase, you can always:
- have the description field note the difference (i.e. "Launch editions include 30-page artbook")
- have cart/media art that shows the components

Otherwise, it's very easy for someone to see it as a dupe or record made in error.

Tried that before on a Fallout 3 entry and it was denied. I tried submitting it again since you're online. :P

EDIT: Accepted, thanks.

This behaviour of re-submitting edits so they get accepted is not the way to do things. If something gets rejected, rather than re-submitting in hopes it goes through, you should be making a thread about it on the forum.

So we are in agreement that there are 3 releases, but the 3 items in the database do not correspond correctly. You indicate that the first release with the artbook has a barcode of 083717202721, which is present in the database as 45466. That item's barcode was added in 2013. This item is not in your collection, instead you have the dupe (98087), added in 2016, in your collection. It would seem to me that you should remove 98087 from your collection and add 45466. Then we can edit 98087 to become the third release that is not covered in the database.

Okay, but this is where the inconsistency comes in... do we rename the original item to Launch Bundle/Edition, or are you insisting that all 3 items have the exact same name?  In which case, shouldn't all items with "Launch edition" or "Launch bundle" be changed to the standard edition name?

I split this from Dupe thread to a new thread.

Quote

exact same name?

Definately not. With the current way the db functions, all items should have unique (to category) names. In other
words, we should not have 2 items with the same name in the same category. And I am aware that there exists many
instances where this happens.

The one with the artbook should not have "Launch Edition" in the title because those terms are not used on the
packaging. It can be used in the description.

Here is a start:
Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection (with Artbook)
http://vgcollect.com/item/45466
Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection
http://vgcollect.com/item/98087
http://vgcollect.com/item/103649

We can keep those 2 with the same name until it can be determined what the difference is between them besides the barcode. We need to "dig deeper" as they say. I am looking at everything possible, including Region code and Disc p/ns. I have also read online that there is a region-free ESRB rated version that is sold by Russian websites. By far, the one MrFoxhound submitted seems to be the rarer of the two non-artbook releases. With exception to a 4th version I found for sale in Canada!

Here is the full research, with missing info marked as needed. This is for our determination as to what these different versions are and the info won't be needed to be put into an item entry unless required.
