Search by Barcode (EAN)
« on: August 12, 2016, 05:30:03 pm »
Since there are barcodes discussed i assume they are in the database, why cant i search for them?
I have a barcode scanner and that would really speed up my initial creation.
I scanned several dozen games barcodes from diffrent decades and platforms and nothing lead to any result...

Unfortunately there is no way to search the database by barcode.
Currently Playing: Dark Souls: Remastered (Switch)

Thank you for your feedback. We are currently working on updating our advanced search to include other attributes to search including barcode.

I see that BARCODE is now in the advanced search.

However, ITEM NAME is a required field so I cannot search by barcode alone?

For games with a space in the title, I can put a space in the title field but otherwise I am out of luck.

This is annoying as I also want to use a barcode scanner (app).

Any chance this can be fixed?

Cheers, great site, great service!

I'm looking into fixing this so that the name field isn't required. Hopefully I can get this in the next site update.

This issue is still live and its 2018! is there a workaround to get barcode only search working?

Sorry to necrobump

Edit: correction, search by barcode doesn't work at all. Even using barcodes I've checked are on the correct entries. Copy paste a hames barcode, search for it and no dice.

It is a shame that the search functionality is so limited by design.

You can "search" by barcode, but it still requires you to enter search terms which can cause you to find 0 results.

There should be logical OR operations to allow searching by barcode alone instead of requiring an item name with the barcode.

Just don't use advanced search. Put the barcode in the regular search field. It works.

Alas, it only helps if the item in the db has a barcode on the entry, is formatted correctly, correct or complete.

Nope, won't work. At least not in my case:

It works for UPC (12 digit) barcodes.
It does not seem to work on EAN or JAN (13 digit) barcodes.
