My Local Game Store

I always talk in my finds about my local used game store.
I took some pic's a few weeks ago and thought I'd show you guys their set up.
I stopped in today and found a rare gaming console and it was priced the same as a normal one. 
I'll show it to you guys in the next pick up post. 
Sorry if some of the pictures are a little out of focus, hard to take a quality shot when there's people all around you.

Their huge selection of XB360 & XBone games. I did take a pic of the PS4 & PS3 aisle but the picture was too blurry.

 
As you can see they have a ton of Wii, 3DS and DS games. Sorry if a few of the pics are a little blurry hard to take pics when a lot of people are around.

They had a sale on PS2 games buy 3 get 3 free this weekend.

They had a pretty good deal on a Gundam for Dreamcast. (sorry it was sold)

And last the NES & SNES (also Atari and other 80s games) Cabinet. Lots of games to look through. lol

Hope you guys enjoyed this peek into my local used game store. Again sorry a few pic's are not the best kinda weird trying to time it right to take a picture with people around. 
It's so far the best used game store I've found in my area. Their prices are at or under the going value. Look hard and you'll find a deal. (like what I picked up today) I'm always finding deals and they get in new stuff on a daily basis.
When I talk about "My local used game store" this is what I'm talking about.

I might update this forum with new pic's when I see something ether at a good deal or just something you don't see everyday.

God I'm so jealous. There are no retro game stores anywhere nearby where I live, and the best places I can go to locally are pawnshops around town, and their selections are pretty sparse.

I live in a large metro area, but with exception of one of them, they are all pretty overpriced. I stick mostly to ebay these days.

My town has:
A chain that has 3 stores (Think Gamestop but worse).
A tiny shop that used to be good, but now they are mostly for Magic tournaments and such.
A guy who has 3 shops, 2 in local flea markets and a brick and mortar store somewhere downtown (Think of the worst flea market store you can think of and multiply that by 3)
Other flea market shops that are just as bad as the previous guy, but in flea markets that he isn't already a part of.
Random pop-up shops around town that are just as bad as flea market folks (They usually last about a month before they shut back down)

A small town just Northeast of us has one of the better shops I've been to.
Inventory is rather small... their inventory for a given system probably matches my collection (numbers wise)... except N64, they rarely have more than 20 or so games TOTAL for that platform at any given time... it's weird.  But prices are all about retail or below.  They haggle on occasion unlike the other shops.  They do sales frequently.  Overall, really great shop.

I might take some pics of the one store I always talk about, once they get finished filling their new expansion up with about 30,00 - 40,000 more games they recently acquired from another local spot that finally folded up. It's impressive to look at, but prices are always top eBay asking prices or more. He doesn't really care to sell any of it, since it is not his primary business. I believe he sees it a large investment with which to put his kids through college down the road. Assuming prices keep climbing, he is indeed sitting on a goldmine at this point.

Other than that, there's 3 local GameStop stores that I frequent and buy most of my modern games from.

Shoot, I always forget about that.  We have a guy like that too.  Has tons of thousands of inventory, but because it's not his main business he refuses to go price it and he doesn't trust anyone to else to price it... and he also thinks everything is just going to go up in value so there is no rush to do so.  Claims he gets hundreds of new items a day and they just go straight into storage.  What few games he does have out are all up and over retail so they never sell, which might be part of why he doesn't bother because he isn't making much money from it... but then why keep buying inventory.

This is the guy with "Robot Ron 64" for like $20.

We are limited here. There is one thats decent but cause of the location, its clientèle is not quite the collector but more of the broke family with the previous gen console. So there is a lot of PS3 and 360 stuff but he still gets stuff all the way down to the 2600. His prices are decent too. Then there is one on my side of town but its so fucking sloppy inside there cause the guy is more interested in his airbrush business than the games. Overspray everywhere. Other than that, we have 1 gameXchange which never lowers its prices and a half dozen Gamestops with the same inventory.

Yup that is a disc/mega replay store for you. I have 2 in decent driving distance to my home that are exactly like it. yours must get more varying stock in or you just go more often than I do. the nes/snes/gen carts in mine have been slowly dwindling down though. the gen still takes an entire case (used to take 2) but the NES/SNES usually only take up 2 maybe 3 shelves combined. but they also have ALOT more ps2/Xbox games than yours appears to have.

they are also much better priced than the other game store I have around. videogames ETC. there are some deals to find there but only for the systems that are rareish like vectrix/5200/jaguar/etc

The one that folded kept them all in storage for literally decades, and was always really mean to all of their customers who came asking about games. Towards the end they went to a flat $10 policy on all games, provided they could find the ones you wanted in storage, but few people had the balls to deal with such hateful people. I ended up on their good side, so I scored a lot from there the past few years.

Now it's all gone to this other store, essentially doubling if not more than doubling his inventory. This guy used to be really fair, undercutting eBay when he first set up. He watched a lot of great inventory fly off the shelf at those prices, so now it's actually priced to discourage sales. I've personally talked to him, and he confirmed that he doesn't much care to sell. He just wants to have the biggest game store that anyone has seen. At this point (after two different buy-outs this summer) it's definitely the biggest game store I've ever personally seen.

This is a local comic book store, their priced inventory is really small, maybe a couple hundred games... MAYBE... probs closer to just 100.  I talked to the owner about it at one point and he said that if you leave him a list of what you are looking for, he might go and look and see if he has it... but you HAVE to buy it, doesn't matter what price he asks, you HAVE to buy it.  Otherwise he'll never look through the inventory for you again.  He overprices as it is, so I didn't bother.  I got a few good deals when he actually had a guy on staff for it, but he sold me Hurricanes for $15 and got fired for it I think.  Then I bought up what little priced stuff that was mildly rare, so he couldn't find prices online for it so sold it dirt cheap.  I think I got a Pink and Blue Enforcer set for like $15 because he didn't look at pink prices, just blue prices and I got a neG-con controller for like $5 because he didn't know what it was to look it up online.

My wife and I offered on multiple occasions to go through his inventory and price it to sell.  We even offered to price it however he wants the prices to be decided (He has made statements that if he wanted to sell for eBay prices, he'd just sell on eBay... he wants MORE than eBay), just so we can have dibs or a discount.  Regardless he turned us down over and over and hasn't added any priced inventory to the shop in years.  I stop in maybe a few times a year and they never have anything new and are never missing anything because nobody buys anything.

Oh yes, these people were firm about their YOU MUST BUY policy. Didn't matter if it was beat to crap, if you don't buy after making them go look, you get kicked out and possibly banned from the store, in addition to being publicly berated. They were ruthless a-holes to most people. I also thought about volunteering to price all of their inventory, just so I could go through it all. Sounds sooo familiar. I got Kickmaster and Shatter Hand for $10 from them last year, as well as a long box In The Hunt for PS1, $10. Sad part is they had like 3 more of those. That's the thing I don't think most people grasp when I talked about this place, they didn't just have rare games, they would have multitudes of rare games. I would get to pick the one I wanted, because they liked me I guess. I spent a lot of money there.

If you've got any hardcore game shops in the area, they might try to just buy him out eventually. Sounds like that's where it's headed. He's never gonna do anything with that stuff and it'll take years for him to finally admit that to himself and sell out.

I like how all the items in the cases have price stickers you can see. A lot of the places around here either do not have price stickers on games in their case, or do but are on the back or not visible. I hate it when places do things like that.

I don't think there is any good game stores here. They are all kinda bleh.

That sounds similar to where I live. We have several chains, but they are all terrible. One is passable because their pricing scheme is terrible and 95% of all there stuff is grossly overpriced, but that 5% is where you can catch them slipping hard and I do on occasion. One of their locations closed recently and I can't say that I was sad.

My local shop is shutting down. I just went to a going out of business sale yesterday. Apparently everyone got to the good games already, but I did walk out with 2 grocery sacks full of movies for a total of $18.50.

There is one other shop in town, but the guy is way overpriced. So I'll be sticking with the eBay, and occasional lucky Goodwill find. from now on. I will be getting one more big shot at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo this year. But it looks like my local hunting will be winding down a lot.
