Romancing SaGa 2 finally coming to the west!
« on: December 09, 2017, 04:46:11 pm »
I cannot tell you just how ecstatic I am.  I've been waiting for a full English translation for this literally from the beginning when I first played it in 1993.  Now we need Squeenix to translate and release Romancing SaGa 3 in English and I'll be in heaven.  I've played hundreds of hours of RS1 and RS3 in Japanese (and some in English) but this I've held out for.  I avoided playing too much of it in Japanese so I could one day play an translated ROM but to my surprise this was remade.

The second best bit next to the obvious translation is they kept the original music!  SCORE!  The RS series is one of the most underrated jRPGs (and brilliant composer Kenji Ito) by the west mostly because the average person has no clue what it is and that only a PS2 game exists (RS1 remake, its awesome BTW).  Lets support Squeenix for finally doing something right.  They are on a roll with Project Octopath Traveler and I Am Setsuna.  Keep it up Squeenix!

I think it is already out on Steam?  I hate Steam so I don't know specifically.  :)

No. It received a release for mobile last year. PC releases at the same time as the consoles.

What is the appeal of this game? to me it just looks like an old JRPG with a slightly different plot to others?

There's a lot of people who play RPGs for their stories alone.

The SaGa series is more about exploring, character building, and customizing than telling a strong narrative. While there is a an overarching plot in each game, they don't have as much impact as the smaller, more contained narratives that allow you to explore new areas or recruit new characters. Romancing SaGa 2 is especially unique because of how the main characters continue to descend from the same bloodline. In fact, RS2 is considered the best of the three and one of the best in the series.

Romancing SaGa 3 is great. It was the first game that I played after I got my Retron 5. After finishing it once with Katarina, I began a new file with Thomas because I wasn't ready for the game to be over.

Look like a nice JRPG I may get for my PSVita. Those sprites should look nice on the vita screen.
