I'd say PS2 and PS3 because there's all type of games + you can find a lot  of them for cheap.

I'd say PS2 for sure. Such an expansive library, spanning nearly every genre.

That's a completely subjective question. What series are your favorite? What game genres do you enjoy the most? Do graphics play a big part in your game choices? Do you have a strong sense of nostalgia for any particular system? All of that comes into play and everyone is going to have a different answer.

For me personally, I'd say the NES. It has a fantastic library of games with a ton of different genres represented. It's relatively cheap to collect for vs say the SNES or Saturn. And it's quite common. Plus I grew up on it, so I do have a strong sense of nostalgia towards it.

Are you looking for advice or creating a talking point?

There is no real best system, it's just what interests you the most.  Like I would love to own an N64 collection the most, even if it doesn't have the best games.

The singular answer is the Vectrex.

I'd say the PS2 or original Xbox since they are very cheap overall and the games are mostly pretty common. There are certainly a few that are rare and very expensive, but you can get most of the really good games on these systems for under $15 each.

At least here in Japan, I'd say the Saturn.
It has a ton of games that were never released anywhere else and most of its gems are still sold by very affordable prices. Most of them for less than ¥1,000 (around US$9.00).

PS1 is my personal favorite but generally the best system to collect for is the one that makes you the happiest.

All of them.

Because, why not?

There are so many great games across so many systems.

Some never saw mass appeal, some were short lived, some had good runs only to be ended by licensing deals gone unrenewed.

Try to enjoy as much of it as you can while you can.

Especially this latest generation. I love the games coming out now but I worry for their future.

I’m convinced 90% of this gen’s games are going to be a dumpster fire of brokenness 20-30 years from now. But your NES copy of SMB 3 and Atari copy of Combat will still work just fine without patches or updates. ;)
