Rejected edits
« on: November 20, 2018, 03:30:20 pm »
I submitted some database edits that were rejected.  I just want to explain the rational to the edits.

https://vgcollect.com/item/153288 & https://vgcollect.com/item/68485 share the exact same name, but are two distinct versions.  I tried to add "hosted by John O'Hurley" to the name of second one.  This blurb is directly from the cover art and would differentiate the two versions.

I created the entry for https://vgcollect.com/item/43893.  I'm fairly sure it was created as the 2nd edition.  In the time since, the name and picture have been edited to the 3rd edition.  I am now showing a game in my collection that I don't own.  I tried to edit the name and picture back to the 2nd edition but was rejected.

Thanks for taking a look, mods.  Let me know what's up.

I didn't deal with the name change edits, but the only thing I can say about the 3rd edition case is that it looks like the name change for that was submitted and approved back in July of 2018 and the original item record made back in May 2013. There has been no cover art change since it'd been created, so it should've had that cover whenever you added it to your collection / when you made it.

You can always check the history of any approved edits in the history tab.

The original John O'Hurley edit was rejected as it appeared that the game had a rating label, however researching these two releases, that is not what it is. You can put John O'Hurley on one and Richard Kern on the other.
OR
the John O'Hurley one is actually:

Family Feud (DVD Game)

while the Richard Kern one is:

Family Feud (DVD TV Game)

Ive edited listings that have been rejected for reasons I can’t figure out. For example a while ago I tried to edit the title for the Wolfenstein 2 pack for PS4 to reflect exactly as it reads on the game case itself and it was rejected multiple times with no explanation. I don’t even want to bother anymore.

That particular entry: https://vgcollect.com/item/130827
Should have the title Wolfenstein: The Two Pack which is the "common name" on both GameFAQs and Mobygames. This would match our common names policy, which is present in the style guide. The actual full name on the item can be put into alt-name and into the Description field.

I also have an incorrectly rejected edit regarding this game:

"Higurashi When They Cry Hou: Ch.1 Onikakushi" - https://vgcollect.com/item/83735

Instead of the colon where "Hou: Ch.1" is, there should be a dash. Every other game in this series up to chapter five is correctly labeled with a dash and not a colon. When added to the collection or wish list, the first game is also in the wrong number order.

Examples:

Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.2 Watanagashi
Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.3 Tatarigoroshi
Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.4 Himatsubushi

Chapter 5 of Higurashi also needs an edit as there is an unnecessary space between the number five in the title where there shouldn't be.

"Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch. 5 Meakashi"  - https://vgcollect.com/item/127758

Hyphen for Editions or reprint series only. All of those should have a colon.

...Weird then considering these games are literally remastered versions of the original games with updated artwork released on steam. The steam webpage even has the games listed with a hyphen, yet it keeps getting rejected by whomever. I have editing OCD. I wouldn't be requesting these changes if it wasn't obviously borked.

Chapter 5 on either the wish list or collection page is first, where as Chapter 1 is last if you have all five on your personal collection. So it looks like this:

Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch. 5 Meakashi
Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.2 Watanagashi
Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.3 Tatarigoroshi
Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.4 Himatsubushi
Higurashi When They Cry Hou: Ch.1 Onikakushi

Whoever is rejecting the edits, if they aren't, needs to take a look at the naming convention of the whole series (ALL FIVE!) rather than just the individual entries.

We can use the words and numbers of a title from the digital platform, but the formatting is determined by the Style Guide and not by how it is formatted on the digital platform. We have a specific guide for Steam releases:

Gotcha.

The other games really need to be correctly formatted with the colon and removed space to keep consistency for all titles regardless however. I'll try to submit this again.

The barcode I entered on https://vgcollect.com/item/73079 was incorrectly rejected. I assume the approver looked at a copy of the dual English/French version that I created a separate entry for (https://vgcollect.com/item/154445) shortly after editing the first.

The barcode and item number of the Tribute Treasure Box (https://vgcollect.com/item/144241) are just the ones for Mercenary Kings Reloaded, the box doesn't have a barcode nor any numbering of any kind.

The item number for https://vgcollect.com/item/154447 was rejected probably because the mod doesn't know that third party publishers often don't have the three digit region code at the end of their Switch releases. The barcode though, I can't imagine a reason to be rejected. It's even in UPC search databases.

I do not know about this one. On friday I recall I had to reject barcode I saw on an edit because it was only 8 digits long. IDK if it was for this item or not.

Corrected the Crash Bandicoot entry.
For the Mercenary Kings, there are two UPC on the back of the box, the one on the entry is correct. Can't really put on two of them. Put the other UPC into the description field.

I entered all 12 digits on the Spider-Man entry. And the Tribute Treasure Box doesn't have any UPC or any other labeling; the images you have aren't of the released product.

The current images for the box front and back look correct to me. We include scans of any wraps on the packaging in the front/back artwork to represent the packaging as if it were sealed/CIB because sometimes there are stickers or other things that are on sealed games.

Can't say about the Spider-Man entry. Try it again.

For the Tribute Treasure Box, I looked it up to be sure. Perhaps you have a different version? Or you can provide pictures to explain what you are referring to.
