34 - Strider (PC 2014) - PLAYING - Capcom has a fairly nice Humble Bundle going on, with the 1$ getting you Strider and DMC (Along with garbage title Umbrella Corps), so I figured why not! I'd seen the game before, just never really hopped into it and it's a pretty solid action game.  All that Metroidvania-esque exploration, it's pretty solid and surprisingly chill, because it's a game that does very little to hinder movement and progression.  Way different feeling compared to other recent similar games like Ori or Song of the Deep.

I got it a while ago in a humble bundle.  Damn! I was surprised.  That's a really fun game.  I had trouble with a boss or two, but it's still a sword-swinging good time.

Game 13 – Demon’s Souls (PS3) – 37 Hours

+ This was my first game in the Souls series, and it did not disappoint. There’s a lot to like about this game. The environments were cool, gross and interesting. My favorites were the Tower of Latria (obviously) and the Valley of Defilement, and the Boletarian palace. The gameplay was great too. It honestly was the perfect difficulty for me. The hardest game I’ve ever beaten was Medal of Honor Frontline on hard mode, and this game came nothing close to that level of frustration. I also loved the online components too. It was really fun to read and leave messages for people

- I’ve made it pretty clear already my issues with the glitches in this game. Problems logging into the server, multiple framerate drops, sound glitches, levels not loading and falling through the world, NPCs not spawning in… it really ruined an otherwise excellent experience. There’s also some really shitty hit detection, which is especially evident when using arrows.

35 - Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair (PS4 2015) - PLAYING - Only thing I got on Prime Day was this for a cheap 15 bucks.  This goofball series has always been amusing, just mindless nonsense action.  It's honestly not a good series, but just for being so silly, I figured why not, I haven't played it since the Xbox 360.  I also saw on Amazon that they talk about "Steady 60 frames per second" and then I laughed and laughed, because this is not a series known for it's quality and performance lol It's like under Fallout 4 they put "This bug free game will never crash or cause any weird issues for you!"  But it's all in good fun.  The spiders in particular get my hair on end fighting them, no matter how silly it is.

Game 14 - SSX (PS3) - 8 hours

I remember loving SSX 3 on the PS2, so I wanted to give another game in the series a shot.

+ The gameplay is just as I remember it and it's so much fun. It's fast, smooth, and tons of fun to rack up a great score and race really fast. I like how they mixed things up with the survival sections, requiring you to stay in sunlight and navigate tons of rocks and trees. There's some pretty decent replayability too with lots of courses and extra content to unlock.

- The so called "story" was pretty silly. The antagonist was just a different character from the previous games, and it was dumb. I also found the level design to be a lot worse than SSX 3. I missed the more freeroaming mountain with just the 3 peaks, it meant you could ride all the way from the top to the bottom and go through three courses in one run with no load screens.

Haven't been playing games for the past week or so... so I decided to jump into some ps2 badness.

Beat Oni and started up Red Ninja.  Red Ninja isn't nearly as bad as it was described to me... so far.  I can see the annoyances with the camera and stealth, but it isn't nearly as bad as Oni... so far.

Finished Red Ninja: End of Honor last night.

I relatively enjoyed the game.  Camera controls are absolutely horrible.  Just absolutely terrible.  If the camera mechanics were better this game would just be massively better.  It is poor design to have the jump and drop actions mapped to the same button... too often I was wall jumping or grabbing a ledge and I instinctively press the jump button to climb and I drop down.  The only other complaints I have might have to do with my controller and not the game, but the sensitivity on the sticks are out there.  It's hard to walk instead of run and it's hard to aim when doing first person aiming.

I also finished Fire Emblem Echoes yesterday as well.  Need to pick a new handheld game to jump into.  Thinking about Shifting World.

36 - Splatoon 2 (Switch 2017) - BEAT - Ending up pushing through the end of the story and while the singleplayer is fine, and the boss fights are good, I didn't think that the last boss was very good.  I remember it being incredibly challenging before, but I beat it in one go here.  It's all still fun, but as a sequel, it's a tad lacking.  Splatoon itself is just good, so I don't have any real complaints, just as a sequel, it doesn't do a ton.  I'm still gonna be playing the multiplayer regularly though for abit for sure.

10. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution
  • Start - Feb 22
  • Finish - July 22
  • Total Time - not sure

I played through all of the ranks of the World Tournament and it was kind of grindy and tedious throughout, with no real change in what you had to do. 90% of the World Tournaments battles consist of 4-way Orb Battles, which are a complete clusterfuck with everyone spamming shit all over the place trying to knock orbs out of each other. So the only real way to win them was to use the same 4-5 characters and the only fun tournament was the final S+ tourney, which had all your enemies in awakened state, presenting an actual challenge compared to the artificial challenge of the previous tourneys. Overall I really hate this "story mode" compared to what Ninja Storm 2 had.
