Author Topic: Can Someone Recommend A Better US Region Nintendo 64 Controller?  (Read 7549 times)

I already have like 4 or 5 cheap off brand Nintendo 64 controllers, But they all suffer the same exact problem.

The joysticks are too stiff and ultra sensitive. and makes it too hard to play a lot of N64 games that require precise joystick movement. It's so bad it's impossible to aim. Just tilting the joystick a little. Causes the in-game movement on most joystick related games to spin around too fast. Or go either extreme left or extreme right

Does anyone know of a decent (wired) N64 controller that is either less sensitive or maybe something better?

I know that the Nintendo brand ones are the best but does anyone know or anything better or is Nintendo originals the best one on the market?

I haven't had the chance to use one personally, but I hear good things about the retro fighter brawler controller, and the retro-bit ones are supposed to be decent- especially the tribute64 controller based on the hori mini pad. Retro-bit proper isn't selling them, oddly enough, but they're around at other places like castlemania games.

Personally, I use a GameCube controller with the raphnet adaptor. I got used to using a Gamecube controller playing N64 during the Wii Virtual Console days

Hori Pad

I looked up all of the controllers and adapters for the N64 mentioned here, the Hori Pad looks the best to me so far. Remember you all are not only helping me but you are also helping others as well :)

The Tribute 64 seems to be the ultimate Horipad-style controller. Wired versions are already out, with wireless versions coming soon :)

I tried some of the cheap ones myself and yes, they do suffer the same problem. what I would recommend is buying an original model controller. the grey ones are more common thus cheaper. the only thing to watch out for is if the joystick is too lose/worn.

Yea I know that the original ones tend to sometimes have the joystick broken off as well. I have 1 original one but thankfully it still has the original joystick attached.  :) But all the rest of mine are cheap knock off of the real thing and the joysticks they are too sensitive. but the other buttons are still ok.

I have one of those myself- pricey for a controller, but very worth it :)

today mine only cost a little above $20 USD free shipping and it's new, from Walmart online. I remember the day where an original Nintendo 64 brand controller was going for $49-$50 USD and used. :o

Does anyone remember when that was the price? 2015-2014 or earlier. Or when the last time I shopped for an original one

thanks for the help everyone :D

My Hori pad came, and it's just ok It still works better the 4 or 5 off brand Nintendo 64 controller I've had. but I need to still get used to it because the Joystick is still vary sensitive. but overall with some patience and time I can grow into it my new Hori Pad is manageable but not perfect :)

It is a retro bit brand if that means anything I don't think it reads most N64 memory cards through
