Are Any VGCollectors Also Movie Collectors?
« on: July 20, 2020, 01:53:40 pm »
Do we have movie collectors here?

What do you collect? Blu-Ray? VHS? Laserdisc? DVD? Do you just pick-up any format?

What genres are you into? Cult stuff? Anime? Disney? Porn? Whatever?

Drop a picture of your collection, if possible!

Personally I collect VHS, DVD, and Blu-Ray. I also JUST started getting 4K Blu-Rays, I have a total of 1, lol (Predator 2018). And I somehow ended up with a couple CED movies, though have no player for them; ever heard of those? Cinema Massacre did a review video on it, interesting stuff.

I also want to get a laserdisc player, but not looking to spend a lot. Just hoping to get lucky and come across one at Goodwill or something. I really only want it to see the original A Nightmare on Elm Street Uncut, but once I got it I'd probably start collecting for it, too.

I focus on horror, sci-fi, fantasy, comic book movies, and animated stuff (though I'm not too heavy into Japanese anime). Also have a good amount of wrestling and Star Trek, because I'm such a nerd.

I also tend to sway more towards 70s through the 90s stuff, with a heavy focus on 80s stuff. Slashers, zombie movies, sci-fi epics, 80s barbarian movie, 80s "adult" animated movies (not porn, but stuff like Fire & Ice and Heavy Metal).

I've probably downsized my collection by about 100-150 titles the last year or two, but I still have a quite a few, including my Stan Lee Autographed MCU Box Set and my Billy West signed Futurama Vol. 3.  I don't even have a 4K TV, so those aren't upgrades I'm concerned about making any time soon.

My collection is listed here:

I use to have more with DVD's, but I've cut out much of that and only pick up Blu-Rays once in awhile.  I mostly just collect giant monster movies, I have basically the full collection of Godzilla on DVD/Blu-Ray (Missing two that never got a re-release) and a little anime collection with most of them being almost all of the Studio Ghibli film aside from a couple of their off films I don't have a lot of interest in like their shorts or their more quirky movies.

This one is specifically about collecting movies. That one is about collecting anything in general. Pretty stupid thing to be upset about, anyways.

If I had enough movies, I probably would, but otherwise, no. I mostly tend to buy movies that are personal favorites, so I don't have more than I can handle; they don't take more than two shelf spaces, to be honest.

Well, technically speaking...

mainly blu-ray nowadays. I'll get the DVD if a series or movie isn't available on blu-ray.

Maybe off topic but I heard its declined 90-95% in recent years due to streaming services.  It's strange the dvd format is not dead yet. 3 formats on the market is really strange.

I also collect films on VHS, Beta, Laserdisc, DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K. To me, not every film has to be a Blu or 4K copy. In fact, for many films SD versions are superior due to not having DNR removing grain and making everything waxy. I love many genres, but practical effects films are what I love the most.

The difference was it wasn't posted by a troll  ;)

I wouldn't say I'm a movie collector, but I have bought an alarming amount of Blu-rays and DVDs since I moved into my house in April. For the most part, you can get them physically for roughly the same price to rent the movie for one night on amazon.
