The topic at hand seems so ridiculous, it's not worth getting into, IMO.

Agreed.  And it is a silly thing to have titled the "GTA Megathread."

I wouldn't pay $20, let alone $100, to license this slop.

That said, locking content behind the Deluxe Edition sucks, and the lack of a true physical release is anti-consumer and anti-ownership.  But those are decisions that came from the corporate suits, not the actual people making the game.

The game, whether ends up being good or bad, isn't slop.  It's obviously a crazy technical achievement that was probably achieved via crunch, hard work, and real sweat and tears for something people believed in.  Agree with the direction of the franchise or not, lets not minimize the work of those people by calling it slop.  The amount of work put into the game is the main reason I think the price is mostly justified.

I prefaced in the main topic itself that the title was a place holder to discuss the recent initial news and once we were done discussing the dating stuff id edit the main title to reflect basically what has happened now which is general discussion of the game itself.  The dating topic was never designed to be a permanent anchor.

The content that is hidden by the deluxe edition is heavily exaggerated.  You get a specific subset of donk cars, luxury interiors in a alternate car shop. 1 tattoo shop that offers art from a special real life artist (not the only rodeo in town as there will be other tattoo and car shops) and 1 alt clothing store/salon. A hiest mission that may or may not be for online currency at a later date.  I get it. Not ideal.  But we also got a lot of people pretending the 100 dollar copy is the manditory way to experience the full game. Im buying the 80 dollar version. I dont think the extra content really wows me.  Now if they have mention of it in the standard copy like "hey Lucia loves getting her nails done but she cant becase you're a brokie" then i'll be pissed.  As of now Its almost entirely cosmetics.  I do think its scummy though. Just not game breaking scummy. I also believe that price comes with a month of rockstar plus. What I will say on that topic is take two also makes NBA 2k. So the fact they are double dipping their chip at this price point doesnt surprise me.  I have 50 percent faith this will be what I want it to be. But with GTA. That's enough for me to give it a hail Mary shot.

I assume rockstar lost its ability to defend itself from Take Two's board room suits running muck which is why Dan Houser dipped. They mutilated his baby.  And that scares me.

As for the wider discussions of feminism and wokeness. I feel I see tons of sexually clad women in the trailers. Provocative potrayals of sex. Lucia herself, a main protagonist has got the entire bakery lol.  Werent all gamers crying that women characters were being made desexual for pandering? Seems the team hasnt entirely forgotten its historical consumer base. So its clearly still being designed for a male consumer in mind at least in the asthetic department. I dont get what's the problem.. i personally also want Lucia to be badass. Bonnie and Clyde inspired the plot afterall. I have seen about as much proof of it being not woke as I have it being woke. So I am just.not understanding that assumption. The only evidence I have been given of why it will be "woke" is that it has female developers on its team with the circulated image.  Rockstar development team is still widely predominantly male.  The photo going around isolated the females of the roster it didnt represent all the workers.   Not sure I subscribe to how pointed and partisan the reception to the game is.   I just hope they use that to their advantage and rock our worlds with satire lol.  The satire tsar bomba if you will.

Make Dan the man Houser proud.

people argue it's woke cause jason the main male protag is kinda a simp and super passive. seems like he has less of a role or is arguably made later on in terms of the development not meant to be in the game cause his interractions with npc's seems like it would be almost the same withouth the guy.

you ain't wrong though the girls be sexy so they ain't nerfing that at least, that would have been too obvious of a move in a game like GTA

Right.  There's not a ton locked behind it, but I just don't like it on principle.  If you are releasing the game, release the game.  Deluxe Editions should be for statues and boxes, etc IMO.

I feel like there are lot of assumptions (not necessarily here) going on about the content of a 30+ hour game based on what?  2 short trailer and a 30 minute preview?  You could cut up Michael's story from 5 and make him look like a henpecked house husband.  Outrage culture has become so, so tiring.  Just choosing the next big thing that they know next to nothing about and manufacturing something to be mad about.  Just like Elliot Page and Lupita in The Odyssey and their combined what?  Maybe 10 minutes of screentime?

I wonder if this is the game that causes the death of PS5 emulation due to people trying to play the game on PC prior to the ports release, just as Tears of the Kingdom killed Yuzu.

Tbh my measuring stick and the way i'll know if the line was pulled back in production will be if you can't have sex.  Call me a simp, call me wierd, let the redditverse cry, if the first couple protagonists in GTA history don't have a full spectrum of sex activities. Adultery potential. Flirts. i'll know the cackling hens got to the seed pile and the well water is tainted.  It's almost that clean cut for me.   Because you can dress up a a pig in a suit and call it a lawyer but you cant hide its hooves. Rockstar has always been a dirty dog with sex. The game can cuss. Explode stuff. Be political. But if the game truly is being itself.  As 5, IV, damn even san Andreas did.  It'll push that envelope further than cyberpunk did.  These concerns of the sensitive class of the consumer base should be fuel.  Not saying AO, VR Adult content level.  But just the minimum.  And I fear its gonna be a hands off couple.

And it'll anger me because we dont desexualize our films. We dont desexualize tv.  Euphoria, Even Bridgerton.  Sex everywhere. But with video games we gotta endure the KIDDS act, every game protagonist is suddenly celebit and Ned Flanders.

Idk how they'll tackle this. But imo everyone has to get it. That's the rockstar way.   Imo the trailer seems pretty but subdued.  It feels very on the nose. I cant put a finger on it.  But I guess we gotta wait and see what we get. Maybe a lot of this is planned because tbh they know the woke or not debate is only gonna add sales. Maybe they're holding off showing the full heat.

If any game is to cause that it'll certainly be this one.  Rockstar is like the Mafia with their IP.

Reducing "woke" to women being "ugly" or being dressed up is missing the point. Though somehow it always gets reduced to that somehow.

Red Dead Redemption 2 for example, was insanely woke and Sadie Adler was just one problem. That character wasn't just the ultimate girl boss but her entire story is absurd, as she turned from a sobbing widow, whose skills were the kitchen and the farm, into basically the Terminator. Suddenly, within weeks (in game) she became into this ultra bad ass sniper shooter. Also, there's that one really bad scene with the camp cook, who dared to ask her if she could help out cooking and she went on this massive diatribe, insulting him, acting as if she was above cooking and that she was only asked because she was a woman. That was definitely a eye rolling moment, it was just so cringe.

But even that wasn't the woke problem. Remember: You were supposed to be this bad ass outlaw gunslinger.
But then you spend your time driving around a bunch of screeching women who want to vote. You're wanted for tons of crimes but here you happily drive them around slowly. Imagine if Billy the Kid or Butch Cassidy did that in real life...
There are also obvious pushes to a certain direction: You can not disagree with the suffragette town crier in Saint Denis. Even if you chose "antagonize", in the end, Arthur just agrees with her.
At the same time, you can't agree with the Eugenics guy. Even if you click on Agree, Morgan will just insult him. So...what's the point of giving you the options then?
That the Gang was ultra diverse is historically false. There was exactly one mixed gang in the "Wild West": The Rufus Buck Gang, they were blacks, mexicans and indians. All Gangs that were white, were white and wouldn't allow any non-white people in. But i mean we can let that slide for storyteling purposes.

The Indians are portrayed as modern storytelling does: The "noble savage", while in reality they were slavers, rapists, pedophiles, mass murderers and mostly responsible for the Bison being endangered (read some frontier diaries, the indians had this weird thing where they would attack a horde of bisons and drive them over a cliff to their death, then they take the prime meat parts and left everything else to rot), in game the narrative is always "Evil White Men drove poor native american from his land" and i guess there's a reason why their reservate is the only other place (outside of your own camp) where you can't draw a gun or weapon.

And of course there are more problems: The game is firmly anti capitalistic. It drives down the idiotic "Southerns are all inbred" stereotype, which to me is still funny as today there are still two states in the USA that allow incest, but they are the northern, deep blue liberal states of Rhode Island and New Jersey - not the dirty evil south.

And of course, the Ku Klux Klan. They didn't even exist when the game takes place (First Klan ended around 1871, the second only started in 1915), their depiction is based on the second klan and they are portrayed as bumbling fools. I mean you can tell this was put in by some far left activist with an agenda. No other reason, especially considering how "we want this game to be time period accurate!" Rockstar otherwise was.

And this continued with GTA Online. Rockstar caved in to some strange activist group and removed the transsexuals in GTA Online (which i don't get, i thought presenting them is diverse and good? isn't removing them worse than having them stand around their gay club?), removed a action figure and they then had returning characters toned down, most obvious are the changes with Gay Tony and Yusuf Amir. Just look how they were in GTA IV and compare them to now. It's different characters just sharing the name basically at this point. They were completely sanitized. No Edge, nothing. Same with Lester over the years and you can tell their direction: Women are powerful, strong (like Agatha Baker or that Asian ultra hacker), while white men are capitalistic pigs like Duggan or bumbling fools like the submarine captain.

As for the game: I played every GTA Rockstar game since the first one came out (and i disliked the fact that the euro version of GTA 1 had the female characters removed, why even?) but i got zero hype for GTA VI. Rockstar is mostly stuck in a 90's design template. They still use time limits for no good reasons, their mandatory stealth sections haven't evolved gameplay wise and are still on the level of the first Metal Gear Solid, the mission design is uncreative (drive there, kill, drive back), everything is heavily scripted and mandated (it's not a Sandbox, in GTA Online most content limits you to pre-set weapons and pre-set vehicles unless you use glitches) and the difficulty by now is so low and non-existing that there's no challenge anymore either. I got zero interest in GTA VI after everything i saw and heard and how GTA Online and RDR2 turned out.

Also, i look at the sheer size of the map and i shudder, already knowing all to well that at least in GTA Online 2 Rockstar will make you drive from the southern most point to the farthest area and back multiple times in a slow mandatory vehicle like those horrendous Post Vans in GTA Online. And they already said that there won't be something like the Oppressor 2 to use it as a great shortcut for those boring 5-10 minute driving missions.

And lastly: Imran Sarwar was even kicked out because, as Rockstar stated, due to "toxic masculinity". Benzies was probably kicked out for that reason as was Houser, Unseld and Lazlow probably left for the same reason. That is the biggest red flag to me. From the old guard, pretty much only Rupert Humphries and the other Houser are left.

Sorry for the long rant  ;D

Rockstar has never been accurate to real American history.  Never thought I'd hear someone complain about the fact that you get to kill the Klan, or the fact that they are, in fact, fools, in a video game, but here we are.
