HDMI switch box
« on: January 24, 2014, 07:12:17 pm »
My tv has 3 hdmi inputs and I have 5 hdmi devices to hook up so I need the switch box thing.  Any one who has it, does it really matter what brand or type, or does it not really matter at the end of the day?

Could be several devices. WiiU, 360, BluRay, Computer, cable, etc.

I don't think it would matter on the box. It's a digital signal. Unless if there is something in the cheap ones that doesn't allow it to authenticate all the digital right BS that HDMI was created for. But I haven't encountered anything like that. But I don't have any real experience with it.

I've had pretty good luck with Monoprice HDMI switches at the TV station. Deployed one in the conference room and one in the control room. Their HDMI splitters work pretty well, too, although the one we use on the game show set is rather picky about the order in which things are connected.

personally I've been using this. it doesn't take up much space and works very well. the only complaint is that the LEDs are BRIGHT AS HELL, so don't use it in the bedroom.

On that one on Amazon, It is for my bed room.  Can you mount it or turn it around to where the led lights are not a problem?

My five hdmi things are:  ps3, 360, wii u, directv box and my vcr/dvd recorder combo.  I know I can watch dvds in anything else, but I do watch a few vhs' each month and my dvd recorder upscales my dvds to 1080p and the systems dont do that so i use it quite frequently for dvds.

I find that a bit of electrical tape over annoying LEDs works wonders.

You've sold me my friend!   :)  At walmart, they have their brand of 2 way hdmi switch for 24 bucks so 30 I get this 5 switch, put electrical tape on the light and Im good to go!!  I just watched an unboxing video of it to.  Looks like it can sit nice under my tv screen.

Thanks again!  It may be a few weeks but I'm getting it.

We had a van that we did that to once. Got it checked out multiple times and never found a problem. So my dad just taped over the light because he found it annoying. ha
