The lists are way too long, they need to be reorganised

They need to be by adding fields.

One example, the rating. There should be two fields, the first to select the rating organisation (ERSB, PEGI, CERO pre 2006, CERO current, etc) and a second field with the available rating. it would be much simpler to select the corresponding rating without having them all jumbled together.

Same goes with the consoles. The Megadrive is all over the place! You have the Megadrive, the Sega Genesis, the Sega Megadrive (Br) in a list of several hundred of consoles, some with the manufacturer as a prefix, some without. There should be separate field:
- Make (Nintendo, Sony, Nec...)
- Brand (Megadrive/Genesis, Playstation 3, Apple II...)
- Region / Country of origin

There are so many duplicates. Games should be grouped together per game, with additions being reviewed by the site:
- Game
- Console
- Region
- Variation

This way when adding a new game I would select
On the [Sega] [Master System], the game from [USA] [Power Strike] with the variation [Blue cover]. The Japanese variation (Aleste) would not be a separate entry and would show up in a search. Depending on which Console and Region I put for the Game, the Name and cover would reflect it, showing Aleste アレスタ if I chose JP with Power Strike in the field Also known as. Power Strike, Aleste, アレスタ, are all variation of the same entry http://vgcollect.com/item/36379 . If I choose USA as the region I should be granted the variation choice Regular cover or Blue cover. Same goes for multiplatform games, which would share the same database entry. Of course I should be able to add the same game several time if I have several variations of it / multiple copies.

You get what I mean? This would solve all your duplicate problems.

Yeah, and they should make a list for blu rays, vhs, and dvds.

...and they should make "introduction" / "get-to-know-you" threads for the brand new members here too!

oh; wait... :o

This goes for everyone here. Keep it civil. Please.

You get what I mean? This would solve all your duplicate problems.

Unfortunately, no, it wouldn't. Because new people who have no idea how our system works would still make new entries.

khaz, we appreciate all the suggestions, but you ah, kinda went overboard by making tons of posts asking for stuff. :| The database is not set up to do all that stuff because we only have one main developer who happens to have something awful: a job. :P So he does what he can, when he can.
