Wii U 'Fight Pad'

So I first stumbled upon the Forbes article which had a picture of a what looked like a new Gamecube controller. Within 0.5 seconds I realized this was some kind of fan made rendering and not official. Both articles spoke of basically a new GameCube controller, then I saw the picture. (The one above.) Wtf... Doesn't look like a Cube controller at all. Maybe the triggers will be GameCube-esque? Who knows? At any rate... that's one funky controller. Thoughts?

Oh, reading the article more, that's the Wii controller they made, not the Wii U one coming.  Thought it was odd it just said "Wii" on it lol

Also, just looking at that itself, does that design actually make much sense? Arcade sticks are meant to have the buttons laid out like that so you have one hand with full access to all buttons, the hand resting on the stick, I'm not sure how that design would actually compliment fighter layouts, but then again, I'm not someone who is an active fighter gamer lol

I saw a PS3 controller in a used bin at Gamestop recently that looked almost identical to that.

I like that design.

But I wouldn't use it for competitive stuff.

I cannot wait to see what the actual Wii U design will be for the fight pad.  I'm excited what Nintendo comes up with :)

I think it would actually work quite well, it looks like a Saturn model 2 control with the thumb stick of the Neo Geo CD pad.
It would definitely be neat to try if something like this ever comes out... problem is Nintendo doesn't seem to get many fighting games that would utilize it well

AHHH HA. So there was some truth to the rumors. Announced in this video is a GameCube controller adapter for Wii U. Skip to 2:20. Looks like there was a Super Smash Edition of the Cube controller as well.

Edit: Here is an IGN article http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/05/29/gamecube-controller-adapter-announced-for-wii-u

Very nice, I want one.  :)

Wish they had left GC compatibility in the Wii U, but what can you do?

I like this information; however, I am a little confused.  So the Wii fight pad shown earlier in the thread is not the Wii U version correct?  The actual Wii U version image or details have not been released yet by Nintendo?  And was that fight pad for the Wii released in America?

that "fightpad" in the first picture is not a nintendo. my guess is someone took the fightpad that got "popular" when Marvel VS Capcom 3 came out(first time I remember seeing it) and just made it look like it was made as a Wii controller.

the quote on quote Nintendo "fightpad" Nintendo was working on is the Gamecube Adapter.
Personally I like the option but I do hope they bring back all the different controller options from Brawl because either no one took me serious when I would play as Marth with just the Wii Remote and got them so annoyed when I would win.
