Looking At PSP Games, Need Some Suggestions
« on: August 04, 2014, 01:14:10 am »
I'm thinking about getting a PSP, but need a little help figuring out some games to get on it.

If it's a game that has a counterpart on a full console (PS1/PS2, I don't have PS3), then I don't want it. That's why you don't see Star Wars Battlefront II or Twisted Metal: Head-On in my wishlist.

What I already have in mind to get:

1.   Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles
2.   EA Replay
3.   God of War: Chains of Olympus
4.   God of War: Ghost of Sparta
5.   Gradius Collection
6.   Metal Slug: Double XX (aka MS 7, which I can also get on DS. Not sure if the big screen of the 3DS XL outweighs the extra-content of the PSP version. Can anyone here help me on this one?)
7.   Star Wars: Battlefront - Elite Squadron
8.   Star Wars: Battlefront - Renegade Squadron
9.   Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix
10.   WWE: Smackdown vs. Raw (any of them)

Any other suggestions for me?

Ultimate Ghosts n' Goblins
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together(remake from Super Famicom)
Patapon series
Prinny series
Mega Man Mavrerick Hunter X
Mega Man Powered Up
Locoroco

These are the only games I can think of at the moment for psp exclusives, since I'm not too familiar with that area.

Thanks guys.

Question: Isn't Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X just a re-release of Mega Man X?

Thanks guys.

Question: Isn't Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X just a re-release of Mega Man X?

Indeed it is.

While I'm posting here, I may as well give my suggestions as well (The PSP is one of my favorite systems). I'll try to not mention anything anyone already has.

-Corpse Party (Horror)(PSN digital download only unfortunately) <---Awesome horror game, goes on sale on PSN every so often.
-Corpse Party: Book of Shadows (Horror Visual Novel)(PSN digital download only unfortunately)
-Gods Eater Burst (Monster Hunting) <---Fantastic, one of my absolute favorites on the system.
-Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Has cross-save with the HD PS3 version, which is pretty awesome)
-Phantasy Star Portable 1 & 2 (Action RPG sorta things)
-Valkyria Chronicles II (Strategy RPG)
-Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger Vs Darkdeath Evilman (roguelike)

The PSP has lots of fantastic ports/remakes too. Most of these are actually different enough from their console versions to be worth getting. I didn't recommend any straightforward ports of console games since you didn't seem interested.

-Final Fantasy (Visually enhanced port)
-Final Fantasy II (A port/remake of the Famicom game we originally didn't get)
-Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection (Has an enhanced port of the original FFIV, plus FFIV: The After Years, as well as a new scenario set between the two games)
-Knights in the Nightmare (Strategy RPG meets bullet hell sorta thing)(This is a port of the DS version)
-Mega Man Powered Up (Remake of the original Mega Man with improved graphics & other new stuff)
-Metal Slug XX (The PSP version is pretty cheap, and I like all the additions to this version, I'd recommend it)

There's lots more good stuff left that I haven't mentioned yet, but I didn't really want to recommend too many games that I haven't even played (I already mentioned a few).

If anything, Gamestop will be removing all their PSP titles soonish (they'll stop accepting PSP trades in September), so get that collection going soon if you hope to find stuff in the shops :P
All the suggestions from the others match what I would've suggested :D
Currently playing:
FFXIV (PC), The Witcher (PC), Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (PS4)
