Alt cover for Mega Man Anniversary Collection PS2

Okay, so this game's cover usually looks like this.

On the right side nearer to the top, you can see Wily floating around in a spacecraft just under the logo. However, there is a case that looks like this:

without Wily, and instead a box that says "Contains 10 CLASSIC MEGA MAN TITLES". I know I linked to an XBOX cover art right there, but such a version exists for the PS2. I saw one go on eBay pretty recently, and if you search the listings there you might be able to find one now.

Does anyone know anything about this alternate cover? I read an article talking about the XBOX version coming out, which was great "in case you missed out on the other two" or something. This makes me think that the cover removing Wily is the cover for a later print of the game, but I don't really have any solid evidence for that. I guess I'm posting here hoping somebody will know something I don't :P

Well, it definitely exists, I've seen them before XD

And there are some for sale right now too. I'm just curious about its origin. And I'm new here, I don't know if people add these things to the database or something.

... yes, yes we do. :p That's kind of our thing, being able to add alternate versions easily.

As for its origin, I honestly have no clue.

Edit: It appears that the back cover is different, too! The copyright text on back of the alternate cover is laid out differently than in the version with Wily, as is the blurb on the top part. "never-before-released" is split in two lines in the MobyGames scan, while in the other one, it's in one line.

Very interesting! Never studied the back of the cover. Always makes me wonder if anything else is different between the versions - instruction booklet, or even game EXE version. Well, thanks for checking it out.

The SLUS is the same on the disc so I doubt they did anything to it. If it was different we'd know that by now. :)

Nah, I'm talking about different version numbers inside the disc. For example, TimeSplitters and Dark Cloud 2 both have a version 1.00 and 2.00.

The version 1.00 for TimeSplitters isn't in the database, but I own it myself so I know it exists. What the differences between version numbers are... who knows. Sometimes that might be all that's different - they literally just changed the version number inside the SLUS file on the disc. But that's what I'm talking about when I say "EXE version".

Whaddayaknow. How about that! I stand corrected.

There only seems to be one known version of MMAC at the moment, but it's worth looking into.

Yeah, Redump has a pretty good collection of PS2 games, but there are still many holes. My TimeSplitters v1.00 is one example.

Many reprints don't end up changing anything, but it's certainly a possibility. Thing is, you'd have to trust that everything is as it was originally sold if you're buying it used. I know that some people replace cases that get banged up, or even replace games that got scratched up and put it in their old case, so unless you're buying brand new copies of everything (which can also just be reseals), it's a crapshoot trying to find a specific version of a game for sale. *shrug* But we do know there's different artwork now :D
