People call Adventure an RPG, but I mean, it's really not.

I think there's a D&D game on there, too.

yeah, I've seen Adventure called the "1st ARPG"...whatever ya want to call it - me & my sister spent more time playing it than any other 2600 game when we were kids.

Many people consider the Swordquest games RPGs. As someone who played the first couple as a kid and tried to make sense of them then, I'd call them acid trips. :P

There's Adventure, the Swordquest games, and Venture, as I recall.  Venture is much like a primitive Zelda game, and I actually sat and played it for over an hour a year or so ago.  But that might have been the Intellivision version.

I would not consider Swordquest as an RPG at all.  I finished Earthworld with a guide and all you do is move items into different rooms in a specific order, with the occasional mini-game.

I guess something like Action/Puzzle.  There are so many different item combinations in Earthworld though that I have no idea how someone would solve that game.

^ I read that the Atari Quest games were part of a competitive contest and that specific instructions were given on how to complete the games. So I could imagine that playing the game today would be confusing.

Yeah I tried playing with those specific instructions and ended up using a guide.  You have to look for clues that only appear if you have the right item combinations.  Then you open the comic book and find the section that the clue tells you to look for to find a hidden word.  Here is the guide (the clue guide is at the bottom).  Remember that these clues must be found in the specific order and no hints are provided to find what they are.  They make the puzzle easier as the series continues, but I found the Fireworld minigames impossible and have not purchased Waterworld yet.  The history behind these games are very interesting, but the games themselves are boring.
