One game away and I've reached the coveted 52 games! We need to do this again next year, it's really motivated me to work on my backlog :)

I am already planning on it next year. Probably with monthly check-in's/discussions? I'm also going to try to do quarterly VGC playthroughs of a few games so we can all discuss them, so everyone should keep an eye out.

I loved the challenge this year and gave the motivation to 100% some of the games I have, just wish I had more time to play em'! There's always next year and I plan to do better.

I might try and do more old games for next year just to see if I can get the challenge.  I mostly made mine about newer games, but I think I'll go abit more lax this year, especially since there are a couple games I've been meaning to beat for awhile.

Dishonorable mention: Need For Speed beta.  I spent a whole weekend playing this game, it wasn't that bad, but I'm still bitter about not being able to pause the game even in solo/not online mode.

I'm slowly remembering which games I've played and beaten this year.

I guess The Rise of the Tomb Raider will probably be my 52.

Already started a new game that I likely won't beat until 2016. It'll maybe be my first games beat of the new year, and it's definitely a worthy #1.

Telly,

How long did Chrono Cross take you? Also should I have played Chrono Trigger first to appreciate it? I have it on my backlog and I'm deciding between that and Suikoden 2 to ring in the new year with my first RPG.

I don't have my game save in front of me at the moment, but from what I recall, I believe it was around 40 hours. Certainly there's a lot of extra stuff/ characters that you can go for that I didn't try to get. So it may take you longer or shorter if you try to get all 45 characters, get all the best weapons, etc.

As for needing to play Chrono Trigger first, it's really hard to answer, but Chrono Cross is only loosely related to the events of the first game, so I would say that you would probably be fine. :) I just watched the main cutscenes and other parts that I remember relating the two games; and I don't think it will affect your enjoyment too much. During the story they just refer to the events of the Chrono Trigger in relating to how things have changed now; they also explain the story of CT through side-exposition.

Does anyone else want to chime in who's beaten the game?

My Chrono Cross file took me about 40 hours. With dabbling in New Game Plus stuff, it took me 60. There's a lot of extra stuff you can do, but the game can be done with the best ending in 30 to 40 hours. However, I highly recommend playing Chrono Trigger first because you'll appreciate Cross much more. Also, Chrono Trigger is a fantastic game with some of the best pacing I've ever seen in an RPG. You can finish the game in about 20 hours and still do a bunch of side quests.
