Indeed, they do in most cases. However, this site isn't a welfare gesture to humanity. The vgc platform lives through the members and contributors. They want us, they need us, we need them, we demand certain things.
I would say that assessment is somewhat inaccurate.
They want us? Sure I suppose it's nice to have a decent amount of members who also happen to be contributors.
They need us? That's questionable though I'd lean towards probably not. I registered with this site a few years back and didn't get actively involved with it until about a year ago. I'm sure had I not bothered, the site would have chugged along just fine without me. I'm also pretty sure that could be said for just about any member here besides the founders who originally conceived the site.
We need them? Kinda, but not really? As far as mods/admins go, it's nice that they're able to turn around on edits as fast as they do. I've got a bunch in the queue now but it's no worry to me if they don't approve/reject them in that 24-hour window. It's nice when they do but I know they'll get around to it eventually.
As far as the coders/programmers go...I'm happy that they can add what they can, when they can. I know my cousin is still patiently waiting on the iPhone version of the mobile app.
Also, It's not that I don't agree with you about there being a field for instruction books/inserts. I think in some instances it would be helpful for a game like say...Phantasy Star II on Genesis that came not only with an instruction manual, but a fold out map and a hint guide as well. While it would be nice to see a picture of stuff like that, the site currently isn't set up for it and while I'm no programmer, I can't imagine it's as easy as just sliding in another field just like that. Maybe it is, but I have to imagine that since, to date, we've not seen such then it probably involves overhauling the code of the site. Again...not a programmer so I'm just basing that on anecdotal evidence.
We demand certain things. Demand? Really? Look, I've contributed THOUSANDS of edits here, I've added in dozens of console and PC games as well as whole swaths of Interactive Figures and never once have I ever felt that I should demand anything from the Mods/Admins. It just boggles my mind to think that anyone on here has the gumption to demand anything.
Totally normal. It's a normal giving and taking relationship. So when I as a contributor start to complain about technical limitations or administrative arbitrariness I am automatically an ungrateful asswipe?
You can't be serious.
As gf78 pointed out, the context/tone of your responses could be construed as abrasive. That's the vibe I got anyway. I checked your profile out, it shows you've got the 250 edits badge. I've seen you add in new titles that weren't previously in the database as well as point out dupes that need removal. Good job on that. At this point you can keep up the good work while working in the confines/parameters of how the site is currently set up and hope for the best that at some point your idea gains traction and gets added to the site. If not then perhaps this might not be the site you need and it would be time to find a "better" site...with blackjack and hookers.
