A PAL NES Collection???
« on: February 21, 2016, 09:48:46 pm »
I'm so close to finishing my NES collection. Folks ask me a lot what I'm going to do when I get them all. I really don't know. Then I saw some of the PAL artwork and games that never made it here.

I think I'm going to carry on the NES until I get a good chunk of the PAL variants and exclusives.

Any European folks want to help me with this?  I don't care to pay finders fees if we can keep it lower than eBay. What do ya say?  Go on adventure with me?

I just think it'd be something fun to look at trying.  I think you can get a lot of them for around $30 each on eBay. It was just a thought. They have some cool cover art.

I'll tell you now, original Castlevania is a little tricky to come by online, I'm finding a few on eBay right now and they're a little pricey and not Cib if that's what you were looking for.  Meanwhile, Simon's Quest for days

I bring up Castlevania because it's one of the few NES games I have, but the PAL version has an unusual quirk.

It's 18 euro to ship an NES game to the states?  Holy Shit!  This may be a horrible idea.

Jump on the Japan bandwagon! Shipping is way cheaper and it's easy to buy in bulk right now.
And with a simple adaptor the Famicom library can be played on a North American NES with no issues.

There are more country's here, and some are cheaper with their sending fees.

I used to order games in the USA, but the sending fees from the USA to Holland are way to high atm. Not sure why that happend.

Edit:
I just did a quick check, and sending a game from the USA to Holland, starts at 12€.

I'm not too sure about PAL games, but for lovely art and style the Japanese games are the way to go.  The artwork alone on the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy games are breathtaking.

As pointed out already, shipping is cheaper from Japan and - for whatever reason that I can't explain - you can get complete in box Japanese NES/Famicom games much easier and cheaper than US or PAL games.

If you are interested, I have some Famicom and Super Famicom games complete in boxes.  You can see them in my collection.

^^this.  Or you can buy a Retron which allows for custom translations as well!   ;D

It helps that when North American games usually had cardboard or styrofoam inserts in their boxes, most Japanese games game in plastic trays in boxes, which are sturdier and do a better job of protecting the outer box from getting crushed. Other than that, I guess Japanese people probably just took better care of their things. :P

I'm not too interested in the Japanese stuff.  I may one day, but not right now.  PAL just seems like another variation of NA.  I'd like to play Doki Doki Panic one day, but other than that there's just not much for me.

just go with the more logical step instead. jump on the Super Nintendo bandwagon. So many Great games worth playing even today!
Or go with the Genesis and its cheap library.
