Hiddn gems on the Nintendo DS
« on: March 10, 2012, 10:16:31 am »
I have a nice collection of DS games but I know that I am missing a lot of great games.

What are some of the hidden gems for the system?

I looked through your collection and I didn't see:

Contact
Chrono Trigger
Radiant Historia (pretty sure you ordered this)
Solatorobo
Suikoden: Tierkreis
The World Ends With You

 I suggest checking them out.

Contact is a real gem and is only 4.99 used at Gamestop.  I've seen them in the stores before - let me know if you ever want me to pick one up for you if you can't find a copy.

Haha I'd forgotten about that one. Didn't it have a sequel even?

Check out Aliens Infestation, its fairly new but I picked mine up for $15 brand new, it's a really cool 2D run n gun, kinda short but really awesome game

I've been meaning to get Aliens for awhile now. They have it for 20 at my local GameStop. Its the only place I've actually seen it on the shelf too.

I'd like to also put a vote in for Contact, it's a great game that people miss. Others that I can think of that get missed often:

 - Lost in Blue (there's 3 of these but they are pretty much the same. Stranded kids must get off deserted island.)
 - Time Hollow
 - Trace Memory
 - Hotel Dusk: Room 215
 - 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (just had the sequel announced for 3DS/Vita NA release!)
 - Okamiden
 - any of the Phoenix Wright games (I especially loved the Miles Edgeworth Investigations, but I do love Edgeworth!)
 - Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol (not for everyone but I love the Chibi games!)
 - Retro Game Challenge
 - Soul Bubbles
 - The Dark Spire (haven't put a ton of time into this one but my husband LOVED it)
 - Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey
 - The World Ends With You
 - Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ (I think this might be available on DSiWare now?)
 - Solotorobo
 - [Import] - Dai Gasso Band Brothers

There's a crazy mix of games there, but I have put more time into my DS than any other game system I have ever owned. I love the way I can just pick it up and go, the rechargeable battery doesn't restrict me like the old game boys did (I put a fair amount of time into my SP as well before the DS came out), and companies really didn't know what to do with the dual screens at first and a lot of really great games were created, just because companies were willing to work with new IPs.

Classic from the beginning of my DS's life...  Frustrating but interesting concept.  Once it got towards the end I had to put it down (not into stealth games).

 - 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (just had the sequel announced for 3DS/Vita NA release!)

Definitely if you're into reading :)  Same goes for the Phoenix Wright games.

 - any of the Phoenix Wright games (I especially loved the Miles Edgeworth Investigations, but I do love Edgeworth!)

Funny, I didn't care much for Investigations... but the story was still excellent as always.

 - The Dark Spire (haven't put a ton of time into this one but my husband LOVED it)
 - Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey

Punishingly old skool in terms of difficulty.  Pen and paper graph paper map, anyone?  Also, Dark Spire can be found for $6 used at Gamestop... If you can find it.  I got it brand new with the soundtrack from them for something like $5 during a sale.

That reminds me, I really like the Etrian Odyssey games as well.  I'm glad I have the three; looks like they're getting harder and harder to find.
