First Game Ever Purchased
« on: April 15, 2016, 03:55:03 pm »
Hi all!

I think there was another thread a while back about the first console/game system you ever purchased, but not sure if there's one about the first game you ever bought :)

I think the first game I ever bought was Golden Sun [GBA]

I wish I recalled where I bought it. I just remember that I had the plastic on it for as long as I could. I kept one drawer in my bedroom's dresser pretty empty, so I kept some precious things in there, and one of those was GS. I still have the CIB game, and it holds some great sentimental value. Time to get a protective case for it and my other GBA boxes :)

There was one a while back about the first game system we ever purchased, is that what you meant? ???

As for my first game I bought, I don't entirely remember. :P Mega Man Battle Network 3: White or Pokemon Red used from an EB Games (back when they were still Electronics Boutique) are a couple of the earliest memories I still have because they actually mean something to me. Anything before that was either not significant enough for me to remember or my parents bought it for me.

LOL, yes! I'll update my post. Sorry for the confusion - that's what I get for posting while at work.

Yeah, I definitely played a lot of other games that my parents bought for my brothers (or they bought for themselves), but those early games that we purchased for ourselves with our own money can be pretty special.

I still remember taking all the things outside of the box and looking at them. That manual got a lot of readings.

It's probably not the first, but the first one I can specifically remember is The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX for Game Boy Color.

It's possible that the first game I acquired independently of my parents was Rampage for NES. I was in elementary school and traded a kid (some Z-Bots figures I think) for it.

Oh man, Rampage was awesome. I loved playing the little kid-sized version of that arcade cabinet at Chuck E. Cheese's.

I don't know if it was a custom cabinet or just one they had at the restaurant for whatever game was available. I was getting to be too old to play the game, probably, because I had to get on my knees to play it on that cabinet.

The first game I owned was Super Mario World. My dad baught me the SNES bundle when I was a kid.
But the first game I ever personally purchased with my own money was Maximum Carnage. I remember I did Odd jobs and saved up for it. I still remember the smell when I opened it. Childhoods fondest memories lol.

Right? Amazing what we remember. It's a good reason to encourage kids to save their money for something they really want (and not just candy).

I must've purchased Golden Sun with money from my first job or financial aid during my college days.  Not a kid at that age, but I certainly felt like one!

Independently of my parents? I want to say when I come across Super Castle Vania IV and Spin Dizzy when I found them in a thrift store for a couple dollars. Or maybe Red Zone, or Daytona USA and Alone in The Dark II, during my first and short lived attempt to get into classic game collecting back in the early 2000s.

I have no recollection as to how I aquired games as a kid, if I bought with my own money, or other people bought or a gift or what. I do remember some that I had purchased for myself, mainly Saturn games. Daytona USA, Fighters Megamix, Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball, NHL Playoff 96. I also remember systems such as the Saturn, Game Gear and Genesis. But as for which was the first, I may never know.

I don't know how you guys remember the first game you bought. I'm 24 and I can't even remember. I can only assume it was probably a PS2 game because that's what was around when I was 14 and I had a summer job. Then again, I had a Gamecube and GBA too. Meh, couldn't even tell you what system it seems.

Hehe, my family wasn't very rich, though somehow we managed to get a couple of game systems over time. All the games I grew up playing were games my older brothers picked out, so I was really into the fact that I finally had something that was mine (that I chose).
