Lets have a conversation about PS2 controllers.
http://vgcollect.com/item/91520
http://vgcollect.com/item/16938

Are these all actually different controllers?  Or are they all the same?

*Bonus: PS1 controller with a picture of the PS2 controller.  (PS1 controller has the grey cable, PS2 controller has the black cable.  You can even see the words Dual Shock 2 on the picture)

We can just say controllers. Other consoles have this same problem. I ran up onto it a while ago doing some work on Dreamcast entries.

Now, for controllers, we can have multiple entries but they must adhere to these type entries:
1. Controller that came bundled in with a system or game
2. Controller that was sold separately in retail packaging

At least, we can know for sure there are these 3 retail releases I find of Island Blue controllers:
- Analog Controller Dual Shock (Island Blue) [EU]
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162202334414
black packaging (shows color fade)
barcode: 711719703709
item number: SCPH-1200 EL or 3-051-798-62 (B)

- Analog Controller Dual Shock (Island Blue) [NA]
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182309847745
black packaging
barcode: 711719408505
item number: SCPH-1200 UL/94085 or 3-051-795?-62 (B)

- Analog Controller Dual Shock (Island Blue) [NA]
http://www.ebay.com/itm/162229896006
gray packaging
barcode: 711719403807
item number SCPH-110 UL/98038 or 3-070-76?5-21

We have those three for sure. Not enough details to know if they each have the exact same controllers in them but they likely do. I suspect there are more than those three that were sold individually and I do not know where to look to find out about what came with system variations.

For a bundled controller, it must be noted in the description which consoles or games it came with.

They are not the same.  One has a dark grey (PS1 styled) cable.  The other has the light grey (PSOne styled) cable.

So you are specifically referring to http://vgcollect.com/item/44362
?
images removed.

Original image used as "box front" when theflea made the entry was the one with the dark cable.
In March 2016, another user put "cart art" as the one with the gray cable. This was clearly an error because it did not match the original image.
So the Island Blue controller in PlayStation accessory category can now have the art of either the Playstation (black package) or PSOne (gray package) US versions.
None of the 3 sealed examples have the light gray colors. If one with buttons like that and clear blue exists (officially) and was sold either on its own or bundled with something, a new entry can be made for it.
Note: entry was originally added as "Clear Blue" and not Island Blue as it exists today.

For the other two posted as dupes, the "clear blue" or Ocean Blue in PS2 accessory category, we know at least 2 exists there too.
1. Retail release in US, like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/112115010957
2. bundled with japanese Ocean Blue PS2 SCPH-37000
Maybe someone can find more.
If we cannot find more, then we can surmise not 13 nor 50 people have a Ocean Blue PS2, then we can merge those two entries as a dupe, but then make a new one specifically for the controller that came with the Ocean Blue PS2.

I was referring to your ebay links of the two NA PS1 controllers.

The gray PSOne ebay listing has a light gray/white cable.  I have that controller.

There are two different island blue ps1 controllers.  My point was that the cover art image was a picture of a ps2 controller, shown by the fact that the controller had dual shock 2 written on it.

It was hard to tell from the picture. So you are saying the one with the black (Playstation) packaging has the black cable, and the one with the gray (PSOne) packaging has the gray cable?

If so, we can then change 44362 to the one with the black packaging, then add a new entry for the PSOne version.

Yes.  I don't believe it is a black cable though, I think it is the dark grey PS1 cabling.

Dark grey cabling. (Playstation writing on controller)

Same as above, just a better picture

It is very close looking at the Island Blue Playstation controller vs Ocean Blue PS2 controller. Different lighting in a picture can make one seem like the other and vice versa, if this is the only way to tell the two apart from that viewing angle.

I can fix the images for the Ocean Blue and Island Blue entries.

PS2 controller says Dualshock 2.  PS1 controller does not.

ps2

ps1

PSOne version also has lighter colored buttons as shown in my above post.  PS1/PSOne controllers are slightly lighter in color than the darker blue PS2 controller.

Here is the Playstation Island Blue done now:
http://vgcollect.com/item/44362

It just needs a picture of the controller itself put as cart art.
Also maybe if the model number on the info plate on the bottom of the controller says anything special, it should be put into description.
